Chapter 53

ALASTAIR

As soon as Lianna opened the door - even surprising me, since I hadn't knocked on her door or given any indication of my arrival - she looked at me with those emerald green eyes, her body shrinking as if she were a small defenseless little creature, frightened.

That made me want to torment the poor creature, I admit, but before that... I needed to know why she was planning to leave her room.

"Oh? Did I come at a bad time?" I ended up asking, her body trying to move even further away from mine, "my dear... why the sour face?" I asked with a clear tone of mockery, because besides looking like an animal with high defenses, she also looked at me with an expression that was not at all pleasant to see on that pretty face, "are the two men at your disposal not enough?"

I let out one of the reasons why I came - and wanted to discuss - in a way that I recognized had been somewhat crude, but anyway? That seemed to make that human raise her defenses even higher.

"Excuse me?" Her forehead furrowed as she asked, a smile forming on my lips.

"Please, don't play dumb, my dear... I know you're better than that," I ended up saying, because Lianna... seemed to be pretending to be clueless, "there's no need to be shy, I already know that you have two very loyal dogs on your leash."

"I'm sorry, but I don't know what you're talking about, could you clarify?" She seemed to want to enter some kind of theater, which made me circle around her body, those eyes that resembled two precious stones, following me at all times - as if they feared that if they looked away for a few seconds, I could end her life in that short interval of time.

"Of course, as you wish, my dear..." I said, my hands raised to begin gesturing as I explained the obvious - that she was just pretending not to know -, "you have become one of Caleb's concubines, but in the end... you were not satisfied, were you? Or... did I misunderstand the information given to me? Didn't a redhead leave your room after that fire day?" I released those words without any filter or shame, causing that human to widen her eyes in complete disbelief.

"How do you know that? And honestly? Aren't you ashamed to talk about it so casually?" She scoffed as she questioned me, a laugh escaping my lips.

"For the love of the goddess, my dear... I believe we are much more intimate than that." I joked, because in the end? Those words really didn't mean much to me, "and answering your question... I have eyes and ears everywhere."

She seemed surprised by that information for some reason - even though I had previously said that this would be the usefulness I would have when I mentioned having an agreement with her -, however, I believe that until now, she didn't know how far I would really go to get the information I wanted.

"Ah, it's about your dear 'redhead', he hides so many things from you, I believe you wouldn't even be able to imagine half of it." I left that information hanging, because in the end... I was also surprised when the soldier told me about that boy.

The description he had given me was of a man with hair as red as the sunset, green eyes like two jades, and besides that... he had something quite intriguing on his wrist.

A necklace with a green stone, wrapped in silver, and in a circular shape, like the moon that shines in the night sky when it's full.

This necklace... was usually a symbol, one that was worn by the leaders of the Menodora clan.

Of course, I was surprised to hear that - because, I was one of the people who believed that clan had been completely wiped out. And of course, that guard didn't even know why I made an expression full of astonishment when he described that boy to me.

Well, almost no one would know, because the Menodora clan? Had been completely eradicated from existence, and only the elders, or werewolves over 40 years old, remembered their existence - and it still depended on the case.

There was no free information about them, but anyway, if he was with Lianna, it meant that he wanted revenge.

And that was exactly... what I intended to give him.

"But... I think that makes you a person with an insatiable appetite, don't you think?" I quickly changed the subject before she could ask me more, wanted to go deeper, "but of course... if I understood everything correctly."

She blushed.

"Did you come just to make assumptions about my life, by any chance?" Lianna replied, avoiding my gaze, her arms still crossed over her chest, "or did you come to be useful and give me the information I need?"

I laughed.

That human really had a lot of audacity for her own good, and also for her size.

"Both, my dear." I said without thinking twice, "after all, I needed to show my worth to you, right? There's no point in selling my services without proving their veracity, don't you agree?"

Lianna huffed when I said that, only to glare at me with those emerald eyes.

"So why are you taking so long to tell me what you found out? Don't you think it would be more effective to show me your worth that way?"

So serious.

"That wouldn't be fun, my dear." I said with a smile, a sigh escaping my lips, "but if you want to know so badly what I came to tell you, then... here it goes."

I fell silent for a few seconds, just to see Lianna's expression fill with curiosity, along with a certain expectation - one that, honestly, I didn't know why it was there.

"Come on, what are you waiting for?" She soon asked me like an impatient child, "Alastair, stop playing with me!"

I couldn't help but laugh at that moment, one of my hands going to my chest.

"Alright, alright..." I said, a sigh escaping with it, from my lips, "it was Kalia Hanover who orchestrated the fire on your island."
