Chapter 29: Flashback

“Why do you think that?”

"I don't know... maybe because they love each other."

"How do you know Jack loves her too?"

"I'm just guessing, like this... we invite him to Melisa's birthday event which we will hold tomorrow night. If he comes, it means my guess is correct that he also feels the same way even though he didn't say so, but if he doesn't come it means the child is not a living creature."

"Hah ? Wh...why is that?"

"Yes, it just feels funny, any human being will definitely receive sympathy from other people, so at least he came to show his gratitude. Do you understand?"

"Yes, I understand."

"Now, let's try it!"

Kevin pressed the doorbell, the house was very quiet and scary even though it was still daytime and the sun was still shining brightly. But for some reason the sun seemed reluctant to shine on the house, all that could be seen were the clouds surrounding it.

"Excuse me!" exclaimed Kevin.

An old woman was seen opening the door and walking out and approaching the two young people who were standing in front of the fence of her house.

"Who...who?" asked the old woman with slow steps and a very soft voice.

"It's us grandma, Jack's friends."

“Jack's friend? Melisa, right?” asked the old woman, wrinkling her eyes which were starting to blur due to age.

"No, we are Kevin and Heriet."

“Ke…Kevin?” The woman was confused when she heard the name, she seemed to have known the name before but it had been a long time.

The old woman opened the gate and looked at the two young people from head to toe before inviting them both to enter.

"Kevin who?"

“I'm Kevin Federline, the son of Simon Federline, my grandmother's neighbor. Kevin answered.

“Kevin? "Is it true that you are Kevin, Jack's little friend?" The woman started to smile, she smiled happily.

"Yes that's right !"

"You're big, aren't you? the same age as Jack, right?”

"Yes, Grandma, and we go to the same school."

"Wow... but why are you never together again? even though they used to be very familiar. Who's this ?"

"I'm Heriet Garner, Jack's school friend too."

“Oh…then let's go in.” said the old woman, inviting the two of them into her palace.

"Thank you Grandma." said Kevin.

“Ke…Kevin… !”

"What ?"

"Do you know the rumors circulating about this house?"

"You mean ?"

“Whoever enters this house will have bad luck. His life will be under a great curse until he dies.”

“Who said that?”

“Everyone is already talking about it.”

“Then, Melisa is the one who has received the curse.”

"Hah ? Wh...why?"

"Because he has already entered this place, and now it's our turn."

“W…what? I don't want Kevin." Heriet was scared, he held back his steps.

"Why ? Are you afraid of cheap gossip like that? Come on, where's the brave Heriet I've always known."

“Who said I was brave? I'm scared."

"Do you want to let your best friend receive the curse until he dies? while you didn't do anything to help him." Kevin spoke firmly. He didn't want to waste time, he stepped after the old woman while Heriet was still stunned while staring at Kevin's back which was getting further away.

“Ke...Kevin...!” shouted Heriet.

"Yes ?" Kevin turned around for a moment.

"Wait for me !" Heriet ran over to Kevin who smiled slightly. He tried to grab the man's hand.

The atmosphere of this old house really felt different, for some reason, from the first time my feet stepped, suddenly a feeling of extreme fear attacked me. It's like there's a death song trying to be heard.

"You guys wait here, grandma will make you something to drink first."

"No need Grandma, we don't want to be a bother. We just want to see Jack, we have something important to tell you.”

"Oh yes ? If Jack is very difficult to call, if you want to meet him, just go to the back yard of Mr. Silvester's house next door. He was there, usually sitting on a stone chair beside the old well. If you want, go!" Grandma Louis suggested.

"Okay, we'll go there. Thank you, Grandma?"

"Yes you're welcome."

Kevin and Heriet immediately went to Jack's place when their feet started to move. There is another feeling that binds me. The place is full of mystery, when you step foot suddenly a feeling of sadness covers your heart, as if someone is forcing you to cry.

Little by little the memory began to reappear, like a great mystery that seemed to be extinguished in his memory. Kevin seemed to be back on that historic night.

"Kevin, are you sure you saw him here?" asked the little girl holding a glass jar.

"I'm sure I saw it last night. There are a lot of them and they are flying near the well!” the boy answered while holding his little friend's hand tightly.

Lightning struck, lightning often came along with strong winds. The rain had started to fall, although it was still small drops.

“Kevin, we better go home. It looks like it's going to rain, father and mother must be looking for me."

"Soon, huh? we will catch one, be patient, Lis...!” the two boys walked along the old, unkempt yard.

“Door…….. !” heard
