Chapter 32

“Cass, you need to be serious! We need groceries!”-Remington

Remington:

“I can’t believe our first kiss was right in front of my apartment building,” I whisper, still in shock over the turn of events.

Cassidy laughs, “Oh, Remi! No, our first kiss was in an elevator in Luna. You were just too drunk to remember it.”

Oh Shit!

I missed our first kiss!

“If it helps, I won’t count that one, even if it is the one that made me realize I might be able to love you in ways that were not platonic,” Cassidy whispers before kissing my cheek.

People mostly don’t stare…no wait…they do. If you have any idea how gorgeous Cassidy is, you’ll understand. They stare at the scrawny fae boy and the god of a werewolf as we canoodle and shop for groceries like a real couple…wait! Are we a real couple now?

“Cassidy, what are we?” I ask.

“Mates,” he replies with a shrug as if it should be obvious.

“Mates as in friends?” I ask.

“No, mates as in your dick is the first one to penetrate my ass and you get to do it every day and night until we die if you want to,” Cassidy says with a smirk and raised brow.

“Not so loud!” I hiss. “People can hear you.”

I know I am blushing and Cassidy hugs me and kisses the top of my head, then says, “You are so adorable when you are flustered!”

“Cass, you need to be serious! We need groceries!” I scold.

“I am serious and I love you,” he replies. “What do we need to get?”

“I need milk for my cocoa and cream for my morning coffee. I need breakfast foods and something for dinner and then I can make a proper list tomorrow,” I reply and Cassidy quickly gets me eggs and sausages, milk and creamer, a loaf of bread and then he pauses at the meat counter.

“Do you want to stay for dinner?” I ask as I grab a package with two steaks.

“I would love to, and then, maybe, we could do it in human form…if you want to, I mean,” Cassidy replies and my eyes blow wide.

I’m thankful that at this time of night Vampires, Werewolves and a few other late night folks and NO CHILDREN are around. But still that is WAY too bold of Cassidy to say in public.

“We will discuss that in private. Let’s get onions, mushrooms, peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and some carrots,” I reply, hurrying to the produce department and then to the checkout line.

After paying for the groceries, Cassidy insists that he can carry them back to my place and then he helps me chop onions and saute them and half the mushrooms along with the steaks while I prepare the salad. I take out a bottle of wine, but am cautious not to overdo it. I don’t need alcohol clouding my memories, but I might need it to steady my nerves.

Cassidy sits across from me at my little dining table as he has many nights before, but tonight is different. Tonight, we are a couple. Tonight, we are mates and we know it. Tonight…no…I…I want him, but I don’t think I am ready to go that far, yet.

“Remi, this is me,” Cass says. “We have been best friends for ten years, we lived together for six of those and we have been on dozens of business trips together. Relax.”

“Cassidy, it is impossible to relax when I know that after all these years…Cassidy, I have been in love with you for so long, this is hard to believe. I mean…you are straight!” I explain.

“I’m not that straight since I am in love with you and have been pissing on you, and jerking off to thoughts of you pissing on me while I’m in the shower,” Cassidy shrugs.

“How can you just say those things?” I ask.

“They are true and I realized that I was going to lose you if I didn’t tell you the truth,” Cassidy explains.

I swallow hard, “You almost did. First thing in the morning, I need to cancel a few things and  call my brother. I was going to move to Mammoth Falls in just a few weeks, but Fred can do it.”

“You…you were really going to leave?” Cassidy pants out, now as all color drains from his usually tanned face and he stares in shock.

“I was. I thought my love for you would forever be unrequited and that being in love with you and not being able to be with you was…I was snapping too much, and I was …I was losing it. I thought putting space between us would allow me to get over you and find someone who didn’t mind that I was a gay, broken half fae,” I sigh as I try explaining.

“Please, Remi…no matter what, never leave me!” Cassidy pleads with genuine fear in his eyes. “Remi, marry me…a human style ceremony after our mating and marking ceremony, of course.”

“Cassidy! We don’t need to get married like humans. Even without mating and marking, you are my other half,” I chuckle, while reveling in how adorable the big lug is when he is this sincere and this desperate.

“Eat your dinner before the steak gets cold,” I say after a moment. “I’ll marry you if it means that much to you.”

“You. You mean that much to me,” Cassidy replies before digging into his dinner.
