Chapter 200 Over At Last
Chapter 200 Over At Last
Calhoun's POV
Namala, surrounded by her coven, finally initiates the ritual to liberate Kristen from Theodore's spirit. The room is charged with a different kind of energy, candles casting dancing shadows as the some incantations echoing through the air.
I take a tough gulp and make sure Aiden isn't looking to see any of this.
"Kristen, trust in the process. This is the night we sever Theodore's hold on you," Namala assures my wife with a firm tone.
Kristen who is lying on the floor surrounded by black candles, hugs herself and whispers, "I'm terrified, but I know this is the only way."
And Namala in turn nods, before saying, "We stand united against this torment. Theodore's spirit will not prevail. He's dead, and tonight you will be free from the ties that binds you two together, and he'll never return to haunt you.'
Aiden gurgles, seemingly sensing the tension in the
room.
"It's okay, little one. Daddy's here. We'll keep you safe." I murmur soothingly to my son.
The witch begins the ritual, her coven forming a protective circle around Kristen. The air shivers with some kind of energy, and I just want them to get over with it already, so my wife can be free.
"Spirits of the beyond, hear my plea. Break the shackles that bind this soul. Free Kristen from Theodore's grasp," Namala chant's fervently.
"It's intense. What's happening?" Kristen turns her head around, and at this, I know she's feeling the sense of energy.
"We're channeling the forces to confront Theodore's spirit. Stay strong, Kristen," Namala responds.
And at this point, I decide it's time I say something to strengthen her.
"We're right here with you, Kristen. You're not alone," I assure her upon holding Aiden closer to me.
Suddenly, there's a gust of wind flowing through the windows, and it puts all the lights of the candle out.
"He's here," one of the witches announces.
And I puff out a low breath, because this is really happening.
"You dare challenge fate? She's mine!" A masculine voice yells and at this, I know it's Theodore.
Fuck!
"Your hold is unjust. Kristen deserves peace, not a
fate of misery," Namala utters defiantly.
The room pulses with supernatural energy as the
witches intensify their efforts, while I am comforting
Aiden through the spiritual turmoil.
"Release your grip, Theodore. Kristen deserves
freedom!" Namala shouts with unwavering
determination.
The struggle ensues, as the witches aim to liberate
Kristen.
"You thought you could escape the consequences, Kristen?" Theodore's voice taunts Kristen.
I could've yelled or curse at him, but before it all began, I was instructed not to address Theodore if I heard his voice or see him.
"You killed me, now you must join me in death," he adds.
Kristen, amidst the chants of the witches, screams " No, I never wanted this! There has to be another
way!"
"Your remorse won't change what you've done. Embrace your fate," the bastard screams again.
The witches intensify their incantations, trying to sever the matebond between Kristen and Theodore, but it seems as though it's futile. Due to the way they keep opening their eyes to stare at one another with
confusion.
"The matebond is too strong. We need a drastic measure," Namala admits at last, frustration evident
in her voice.
"I will evoke his spirit in the mirror and you will do the needful, something which I could've made done from the beginning," Namala says.
And with this, she chants some words while staring at
the mirror.
I would have facepalmed if I wasn't holding Aiden.
Hell knows I would have stopped this if I had the power to do so.
What are they doing?
Namala picks up a knife, and shoves it in Kristen's hand, before ordering the rest of her witches to lift Kristen and lead her towards the mirror.
Why are they complicating things? They can just remove her mask and have her walk to the mirror by
herself. How is she going to use a knife when she
cannot even see?
"To break the matebond, you must end Theodore's
spirit. Stab him through the mirror, Kristen. It's the only way." Namala instructs.
And the shudder from her body gives out that she's hesitant and skeptical, "I can't... I can't kill him again."
"You can't escape the truth, Kristen. This is the only path to our freedom," Theodore's voice booms
through the room.
And it's just so fucked up that everything Kristen said
from the beginning is true.
"It's the only way to sever the matebond. End his
spirit, and you'll be free," Namala urges my wife.
Although Kristen has the mask on her face, I can feel that she's torn and emotional.
And I so badly wish I can put an end to all of this myself, but I have no choice but to stand aside like an idiot and let the witches take charge.
"I never thought I'd have to face this choice again.
Can't you find another solution?" Kristen asks Namala.
"The matebond is too powerful. This is the only
solution. End it for good," Namala says sternly.
And the room echoes with the witches' chants as
Kristen holds the knife, conflicted by the weight of the decision before.
"Kristen, do what you have to do. We need to end this
nightmare," I almost yell from my corner, because I want her to end it all quickly. Kristen, is sniffing as she turns her head around. Unable to see anything because she's still wearing the
mask. "I never wanted this, Theodore," she speaks up The witches' chants in increases as Kristen's hand is
being guarded towards the mirror, where they claim contains Theodore's spirit.
She's breathing rapidly and her hand containing the knife is trembling.
"Do it, now!" Namala orders.
And with a deep breath, Kristen gathers her strength and, reluctantly, stabs into the mirror, piercing Theodore's spirit, although no one can see it. Did she do it right? How can they hold her hand to
stab a spirit through a mirror, when she can't see anything? It's insane.
But on the other hand, there's no sound from
Theodore, just the windows flapping open and shutting from the breeze.
"It's done?" Kristen asks tearfully after a long pause
of silence from everyone, including Aiden who is staring at me with wide eyes.
"It's over, Kristen. Theodore's spirit is gone. You're free," Namala announces, and relief cascades through
me.
Kristen, emotionally drained, removes her mask,
revealing the vulnerability beneath, and sobs uncontrollably.
My throat tightens with several emotions.
"I never thought it would end like this," her voice is
shaky. Getting a grip on myself, I put Aiden aside and approach my wife.
She's sobbing so hard and her small shoulders are shaking along with her.
Embracing her, I say out loud, "Kristen, you're amazing. You faced something unimaginable, and you
came through.
Kristen, amidst sobs: "It's just... it's finally over," Kristen says amidst her sobs.
"You're free, Kristen. We can move forward now," I
hold her tighter.
"You've broken free from the shackles of Theodore's
spirit," Namala tells Kristen with relief written all over her face.
And I feel a heavy weight lifting off from my shoulders.
Kristen lets the tears flow as I continue to comfort her.
"Oh, Calhoun. I feel all the weight lifted off my shoulders," she blurts out amidst her low hiccuping songs.
"You did so well, Kristen. I am here for you, and we'll rebuild together," I make this known to her. And I can't deny the fact that there's a sense of relief
in the air, free of Theodore's haunting presencearound my wife.
At last, it's over.
