Chapter 34

Tyler's POV.

I couldn't look; my strength failed me; I was so scared to my bones. Did Nathan just shoot at someone? I finally surmounted the courage and looked up. I lost grip of my phone when I saw who Nathan shot; I was Jackson. He didn't even know he had gunshot wounds until he looked at his tummy. He fell to the ground instantly and Ami started shouting. Jackson was lying in the pool of his blood.

"Call 911!!!!

It was like Deja vu; I couldn't believe I was about to pass through this again. Jackson accidentally shot at Jackson; he didn't know he had already pulled the trigger, and as he tried to swing the gun, he mistakenly fired the shot and it touched Jackson. Jackson was unconscious and his pace was dropping each second. Ami was already on the phone with the police; we could hear the sound of the ambulance from a distance. I held on to Jackson but he wasn't saying anything to me.

"Jackson, please wake up, buddy. The ambulance will be here soon. Please don't die on me.

Nathan was so scared and dumbfounded that he dropped the gun and knelt with me.

"Jaxson, please wake it up; it was a mistake. Please do not die. I do not want to go to jail.

Ami got exasperated at this point.

"Jail? Is that the only thing you are thinking about now? You only care about yourself. I told you not to come with this gun but you didn't listen to me. You better pray hard that nothing happens to Jackson.

Tom was on the floor shaking; if I didn't know him too well, I would have thought he was a woman with the way he was shaking like a leaf that the wind was tossing around. I won't act like what just happened didn't have an impact on me; it did. I stood there, frozen in shock, my mind racing. How could this have happened? Jackson was just trying to help me; he didn't even want to be here in the first place, but I forced him, and now he was—no, I couldn't even finish the thought. I felt my legs start to give way, and I had to grab onto the wall to steady myself. My vision blurred, and I could feel the panic starting to take over.

I closed my eyes, taking deep breaths and trying to calm myself down. I had to get myself together, for Jackson's sake. It felt like the ambulance was taking an eternity to arrive. I was visibly shaking; tears rolled down my eyes and I went back to sit closer to Jackson. I pulled my shirt and applied pressure to the area where he was shot to stop the bleeding.

The police van and the ambulance arrived simultaneously. The paramedics rushed in, pushing a stretcher. They assessed Jackson's condition, and then they got to work. I watched as they worked, trying to keep myself calm. I had to be strong for Jackson. I couldn't fall apart now.

I watched as the paramedics loaded him onto the stretcher and then carried him out to the ambulance. I followed them, my heart in my throat. I had to stay with him, and I had to make sure he was going to be okay. I climbed into the ambulance, taking a seat beside him. I held his hand as the paramedics started to work on him, administering fluids and medication. They worked quickly and efficiently, doing everything they could to stabilize him. I could only sit there and watch, feeling helpless. I just hoped that it would be enough.

I watched the police officers handcuff Nathan and Tom and put them into the back of the squad car. I felt a mixture of relief and dread. I was happy that Tom was arrested but I cannot say the same for Nathan. He was just trying to help, but there was nothing much I could do. I watched as Ami was crying. She sat on the staircase outside of Tom's apartment. She broke down and I broke my heart.

The ambulance sped through the city, its siren blaring. I watched out the window, trying to distract myself from the worry and fear that were consuming me. I knew that we were heading to the hospital, but it still felt like we were moving in slow motion. I just wanted to get there to get Jackson the help he needed.

Finally, the ambulance pulled up to the hospital, and I followed the paramedics as they rushed Jackson inside. I was quickly ushered to the waiting room, and I sat down in a hard plastic chair. I felt like I was in a daze, my mind whirling. I just wanted to know what was going on, but I knew I had to be patient.

The minutes dragged on, and I felt like I was going crazy. I paced back and forth, trying to keep myself occupied. I felt like I was going to burst from the tension. Then, finally, a doctor came out. I rushed over to him, my heart pounding.

"How is he doing, doctor?

My voice was trembling. The doctor looked at me, his expression solemn. The doctor replied to me in a grave tone.

"He's in critical condition; we're doing everything we can, but he's still in a very dangerous place. We'll need to monitor him closely, and we'll keep you updated on his condition. But for now, you have to be praying for him.

I felt my stomach drop. Critical condition? It couldn't be. I couldn't lose him. I wouldn't be able to live with myself. I walked out of the hospital with Anger. I was going to my parents' house to inform them of what Amber had caused with her devilish act. I was driving above 100 km/h. I didn't care if I got pulled over by the police but I needed to vent to my mother so she would know the kind of woman she was forcing me to get married to.
