Chapter 142: I hope nobody dies this time
Daisy
"Good morning, darling." Carlos's breath was warm against my ear, and then I felt his tongue trace the outer edge of it.
"Carlos," I murmured sleepily.
"Morning," I whispered back.
"What time is it?" I asked.
"Seven, I think?" He didn't sound certain, and his tongue was already moving to the spot behind my ear.
If it was seven in the morning, that meant we had only stopped making love about two hours ago. He had been deadly serious when he warned me that he would keep going until I could not move a single finger. Right now, I genuinely doubted I had the strength to lift even one.
"One more time?" His voice was low against my ear, and his hand slid beneath the sheets to cup my breast.
I had certainly awakened something fierce in him last night. Perhaps I should have raised the subject more gently than I did. My body ached from being thoroughly loved, and my skin was covered in marks he had left behind, especially my breasts.
"You are impossible!" I exclaimed.
"Is that so? It is rather curious, is it not? How I feel completely fulfilled by you, and yet I still cannot get enough," he said, turning to face me and pressing a gentle kiss to my lips.
I opened my mouth to respond, but a phone began to ring. My phone. Carlos's expression shifted, and he let out a frustrated groan before rolling away from me to look at the screen.
"It is your mother," he said, holding the device out to me.
"I honestly do not have the energy to answer that," I muttered, and he chuckled before accepting the call and placing the phone next to my ear.
"Good morning, Mum."
"Good morning, Daisy. How are you feeling?" she asked.
"Very well, Mum."
"You sound exhausted, though. What is that man doing to you?" Mum inquired.
"He is not doing anything to me, Mum. I am just a little... a little tired," I replied.
"Are you certain? You can tell me if he is..."
"He really is not hurting me, Mum," I assured her.
"If he ever does, I will have all the justification I need to be rid of him," I heard her murmur.
"Be rid of him?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Forget I mentioned that. I need to see the two of you," Mum said.
"The two of us?" I was taken aback.
"Yes, both of you. I am still allowed to see you, am I not? And I ought to meet the man my daughter is living with as well. Let us arrange it for today."
"Today? We are... we are not in the country, Mum," I replied.
"Out of the country? And you did not think to inform me of that, Daisy?"
"I... I am sorry."
"Very well. It is fine as long as you are safe and well. But I still need to speak with you both." She said this and then abruptly ended the call.
I frowned, puzzled by her sudden departure from the line.
"What did she say?" Carlos asked.
"She wants us to meet. You as well," I answered.
"That seems rather odd," Carlos muttered.
"She should not have any reason to want to see me unless..." He stopped himself.
"Unless what?" I asked, forcing my weary body into a sitting position.
"Do not worry about it."
"I want to worry about it. Unless what?" I pressed, but before he could respond, my phone rang once more.
"You have another call," he pointed out.
"You are not getting out of this," I said, pointing at him.
"Gold, you really do have a call coming through."
I shot him a look before answering.
"It is your mother. My phone might be under surveillance, so I decided to use a public line instead..."
"Under surveillance?" My whole body went rigid.
"What is actually happening? Why will nobody tell me anything? What is going on over there, Mum?" I asked, finding a burst of energy I did not know I possessed.
"Put Mr Blaze on the phone, Daisy. And I am fine. I am safe."
"Give me the phone," Carlos demanded, his eyes growing darker.
"I want to hear as well," I insisted, shaking my head and putting the call on speaker instead.
He stared at me for a moment before reluctantly allowing me to listen in.
"I am here. What is happening?" Carlos asked.
"I met with Sandro yesterday."
"Mum! Why would you go near that dangerous..."
"Yes, I know," Carlos cut in smoothly.
"You know?" Mum sounded just as shocked as I felt by everything that was unfolding.
"You have people watching me?" Mum asked.
"They are there to protect you."
Mum sighed and continued. "I met him and pleaded with him to spare Daisy," she began, and I felt a rush of warmth in my chest.
She loved me so much. She only wanted me to be safe.
"But he said his target is you. He wants to take you out and plans to use Daisy to get to you. He is willing to spare Daisy if I help him eliminate you," Mum added.
"And what did you say, Mum?" I asked immediately.
"I have not given him an answer yet," she replied.
"But your answer is obvious already. If you had agreed to it, you would not be telling me about it."
"Exactly. So you had better appreciate that I am not throwing your life away the way you did with Seb's. Instead, I want us to put a stop to Sandro. He is the one behind all of this anyway."
"So you want to pretend to Sandro that you are on his side, and while you tell him that you will be meeting me at a location where he can get rid of me, it will actually be a trap for him."
"Precisely. You must have ended many lives to be able to work out my plan before I even explain it," Mum said, and Carlos bit down hard on his lower lip.
"This will be somewhat dangerous for you. I will have more men assigned to watch over you."
"No, not more men. I already feel uneasy knowing I have been watched without my knowledge," Mum replied.
"Anyway, that is the plan. You get rid of that monster and make sure Daisy is safe forever."
"We will return soon," Carlos said.
"Alright. I... I love you, Daisy," Mum said, and I felt my heart grow even warmer.
"I love you too, Mum," I said quickly, and then I heard the line go dead.
"We will go back in two days, Gold. We can pick up our holiday again once this is dealt with," he leaned in and gave me a quick kiss on the lips.
"I have some calls to make," he said, already getting to his feet.
"Carlos, will I be there with you when this happens?"
"No, Gold. You will stay at home. You need to be safe, and I am not taking you anywhere near flying bullets."
"But..."
"Gold, you are not coming with me." His tone left no room for argument.
I let out a soft sigh.
"Good," he said, and walked out with his phone.
I clasped my hands together.
"I hope nobody dies this time. Not Carlos and not Mum."
