Chapter 43

London, 13 February 2015

Everything is quiet, there are colours everywhere: I see beautiful flowers, fruits on the trees, little birds flying to the skies! The heat of the day is fascinating, my eyes sparkle looking up, everything is perfect, the weather, the landscape, some people walking holding hands, children talking to their parents....

The heat warms me up as always, I feel more alive and happier, I smile as I walk and feel that delicious wind on my cheeks and shaking my clothes. When I look at the landscape in front of me, suddenly everything is black. Where am I? I don't know, I try to run, but everything is black and I don't even know where I am going or where I should go. I simply take a deep breath and close my eyes tightly. I'm woken up by a sound of rain, it's not that loud but it's raining.

I sit up in bed and look at the room, it's still dark, I don't know what time it is, I looked at my watch on my left wrist and it's 06h20min. I wanted to dream again, the dream was about my house, my life in Madrid, it is so beautiful there and now I will have to live here, because I need new experiences and here I will get a good salary. I remember my parents for a moment, the nostalgia is so immense that my chest hurts, I put a hand on my chest and wipe a tear that runs down my cheek.

I get out of bed and ask for breakfast, they tell me that in twenty minutes my coffee will arrive. While I wait, I brush my hair and teeth, I wash my face. As soon as I finish, I dry my face and look at myself in the mirror.

My eyes are light blue and my hair is a straight honey tone that hits the middle of my back, my physique is thin and I am one meter and sixty eight centimeters.

Leaving the bathroom, I hear someone knocking on the door, I go over and open it. I see a man with light hair and brown eyes, he hands me breakfast and I thank him. I put my coffee on the little table in the kitchen. I open the sachet and they have toast, some pieces of cake and milk with coffee.

For a moment I think I'll have to call my aunt soon, by the way, she was the one who told me to come here, because there is a company that is hiring translators and the salary is very good, I need this job.

Stopping to think I eat the toast, drink my milk with coffee, and then a piece of cake.

I change clothes because it's cold outside, I put on a sleeveless blouse and a cold sweater on top, it's really warm. I put on a pair of dark jeans, a black leather boot, I put a scarf around my neck, I take a brown bag and put my wallet, I take an umbrella, key and leave the hotel.

Arriving outside, I open the umbrella and walk on the pavement, the rain is not so strong, but the wind is very cold and many people hurry on the street because of the rain, for not having an umbrella, while others walk calmly with their umbrellas. I want to look for a job, so I have to walk to see something that interests me.

I look at all those people around me, all wrapped up, I sigh feeling that cold on my cheeks and walk faster, I see a museum and start walking there.

Once inside the place, I go to the reception desk and ask if they need a telephone attendant or general services and hand over my resume.

The man looks at me and says:

" So you are fluent in Spanish, English, French and Portuguese? - He looks at me impressed and I reply:

" Yes, I am. "

He smiles at me and says:

" Well, I don't need those services, but if you want to be an attendant, we are in need. Be here tomorrow at seven o'clock for the interview with the owner of Annie's Museum.

I say I will show up, he gives me back my resume and shows me the place, then he says:

" I'm Diego, I'm the deputy head, it's a pleasure Annie, see you tomorrow.

I take his hand saying goodbye and return to the hotel to enjoy this cold day.

The rain stops during the afternoon, but the weather is still cold, I eat the slices of cake and drink coffee. Then I take a quick shower, do my hygiene, put on some comfortable clothes, put on a cold sweater on top and socks on my feet. I sit on the sofa and turn on the TV, I pick up my mobile and text my parents that I'm fine, they reply after a minute.

( Hi daughter, glad you're ok, tell me the news, are you in a hotel? Are you going to look for a job? Your father sends his love, we love you. Always keep us informed, see? Take care!

I smile at the message and write.

( Hi Mum, I'm in a hotel and today I got an interview for tomorrow, I hope everything works out. I love you guys too, I'll keep you posted, if I happen to take a while to answer any messages, understand me that sometimes I'm disconnected, see? Love you guys.)

I turn off my mobile phone after that, watch some TV and then go to sleep.
