Chapter 25 TO TELL OR TO NOT 🔥
Callum held his breath the moment he saw the door open, followed by rays of light. He was still watching when he saw a little with a flower walk in, dressed in white. He was still watching when he saw her walk in. Sophia. The woman who will become his wife in a couple of hours. The moment she walks in and his eyes land on her, his worries seemed to wash away, all but for some seconds because they seem to kick in even more worst the more he stares at her.
She was beautiful. The dress had done her no justice when she had worn it earlier today at the dress shop, because now, she looked even more radiant in it, making it even hard for him to take his eyes off her even for a second. Martin and Mira surely did a great job of whatever they had done on her.
As she walks into the hall, many gasped just as the media people around begun to click their cameras and recorders, all rushing for the best shot and angle of her. The media, when he had arrived and saw them, he had almost lost his breathing for some seconds before he managed to gain back composure. He knew they would have gotten wind of it, but it would have been probably during the reception or much later. But now, they were here, as many as could make the trip down from whatever short time then had. He still had no idea who had tipped them off, but he will make sure to find out later.
Their clicks and camera light came from every direction, and putting on a beautiful smile, Sophia continues to walk forward slowly, with Martin walking by her side, and Mira behind her as her maid of honor. Sophia ensured to have a smile that would convince everyone she was the happiest bride in the world. Well, now he had to play his part and have the look that said he could not wait to marry this lady ad have her as his wife. He will worry about consequences and her reaction the moment she arrives next to him ad realizes they were real popes.
Behind him, Ethan watched, his eyes fixed on the lady walking towards them at this very minute. She was beautiful, more than he has ever suspected she would be when they eventually did get married. Ethan sighs silently behind Callum. He had always believed he will be marrying Sophia at the end of the day, and that is precisely why he still feels like this was all some dream he would wake up from. Callum was getting married in a few hours. Callum who has never wanted to be married or has he ever spoken of a future that involved marriage. Yet here he was now, waiting to receive Sophia and be married to her. His Sophia.
Ethan gulps, looking away slightly. He still finds it hard to believe their little story of meeting four months ago and falling heads over heels in love with each other. Was it any other woman, he would definitely know this was an act, but it was Sophia, Sophia who has absolutely no reason to fake a marriage with him. Or was there something he was missing.
And for some moments as he stares at her as she approached, it was no longer he waiting behind as Callum’s best man, it was Callum waiting behind him, as his best man, while he waits to receive Sophia at the altar and be married to her. Ethan gulps, snapping himself from such thoughts. They will do him no good, not when Sophia was already here to be married to Callum, and tomorrow after Callum signs his deal with the broker’s he will be off with her for Culiacan in Mexico to have their honey moon where they may probably stay for a month until Sophia probably returns pregnant.
Ethan shakes his head, and looks away, finally getting such thoughts out of his head.
Sophia arrives at the altar, her eyes fixed on Callum ad not leaving or looking elsewhere. Slowly, Martin hands her over to Callum with a big smile on his face before turning to walk away to his seat at the front row by the right hand side of the church. The church had few persons in attendance, more than half of them the press.
Smiling at him, she suddenly realized something she has been missing the entire time she was walking up to the altar. She looks at his hand, and then looks up at him suddenly, her eyes narrowing on him “Callum.” She calls in almost a whisper, but loud enough for him to hear it.
Callum gulps. Has she found out already? Does she recognize the priest already? Is she going to flare up? To his surprise, he panics.
Her eyes narrow even more on him, worry seizing her mind as she feels his hand slightly shake as he held her. “Callum are you okay? Is everything alright?” she asks, her eyes still on him.
He gulps, and nods slowly. “Yeah, sure.” That was all he could say.
She shakes her head. “No, something is wrong, what is it? You can trust me with it.” She says, taking hold of his hand instead of him.
Eyes on her, he realized she had no idea about the real priest and pope yet, and somehow that calmed him a bit. But she was worried, and she was asking. Maybe this was the right time to tell her the truth and explain things to her. He looks her in the eye, eyes actually really filled with worries for him. He gulps. She would understand. If he explained everything to her now, maybe she would understand his inability to help the situation, forgive him, and at least go on with the wedding. Maybe he can even promise to file for a secret divorce as soon as possible or when they both leave for Mexico, then they can both live the remaining one year secretly divorced.
Callum nods, that is what he will do, he was sure she will agree. Smiling, he takes back hold of her hand, his eyes on her. “I have something I need to tell you before the priest begins.” He says.
Eyes on him, she smiles, and nods for him to go ahead. “I’m listening.” She says still smiling.
He gulps, and takes two steps closer to her. “The –” the door opens again and in walks the Mergers. Callum looks up and finds all five of them standing there at the door, then slowly, they begin to walk in.
