Getaway
Getaway
Tatiana
I walk inside the penthouse late at night, my body sore and my head aching. The rain is slamming the windows, the loud thundering and lightening making me jump as I remove my shoes and toss my purse on the couch.
The apartment is dark, except for a dim light coming from the second floor, more precisely my bedroom.
Angelo must be here already.
I climb the stairs, massaging my neck as I try to alleviate some of the tension in my muscles.
These past few weeks, my life has been nothing but pure chaos. I’ve barely slept more than four hours a night, catching up with every single business the Romina Empire has, getting familiarized with the finances and everyone who works for and with me.
I had imagined it would be hard, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this much.
“Hey, you’re here,” Angelo greets from the bed as I show up by the doorway. He’s already showered and tucked under the sheets, leaning against the headboard with his phone in his hand. “Another tough night, huh?” he asks sympathetically, tilting his head as I stride inside the room, removing my blazer and tossing it over the chair.
“There isn’t a single part of my body that doesn’t hurt,” I murmur, plopping on the foot of the bed and looking at him over my shoulder. “If I knew it was going to be this hard, I’d have thought better before making a decision.”
I don’t mean it, and he knows it, but tonight I honestly wish I could disappear from the face of the Earth for a few days.
“I’m sorry, baby.” He puts his phone aside and gets up from the bed. “Do you want me to prepare a hot bath for you? I can maybe give you a massage,” he suggests, stopping in front of me and pulling me into a hug.
I melt in his arms, inhaling his scent and letting myself relax.
“That actually sounds great. I might fall asleep in the tub, though,” I joke, pulling away to look at him. His dark eyes stare back at me and there’s a little crease between his brows. He doesn’t often say it, but I know he’s worried. The way he’s been taking care of me lately tells me he can sense how overwhelmed I am, and he’s been trying to help me get through it.
“It’s fine. I can take you out and put you in bed if you do. Just wait here until I fill up the tub.”
He walks to the bathroom and I wait, fighting with myself so I don’t just collapse on the bed and sleep until tomorrow.
Turns out I don’t sleep in the tub, even though Angelo gives me the best massage on the shoulders and back. I doubt the best SPA in the world would be able to make myself relax the way he did. He helps me put on my pajamas after I finish, and sets me to bed. Then he lies beside me and pulls me into his embrace.
“I can’t believe I’m only going to have a few hours of sleep before I have to be on my feet again,” I complain, pouting slightly even though he can’t see my face.
I don’t normally complain about my new lifestyle, but tonight it feels like my body just can’t handle it. I’m on the verge of collapsing.
“No, you won’t,” Angelo tells me simply, caressing my hair.
I frown, and lift my chin to look at him. “What do you mean I won’t? I have so much to do tomorrow, I’m already dreading the morning.”
“Guskov cleaned all of our schedule for tomorrow and the day after,” he informs, as if this is the simplest thing in the world.
“What? Why?” I sit down in a swift movement, too shocked to stay still. Why would he do this? He never got in the way of how I led things in the Romina Empire. Why would he suddenly start interfering?
“You clearly need some rest. And I thought taking you on a weekend getaway would help you recharge.” Angelo looks at me expectantly, and I must admit it sounds like a dream.
“I can’t be away from things, especially not now,” I argue.
“It’s not up for debate. Besides, Guskov said he can handle everything for a couple of days. He will let us know if something big happens, but honestly, nothing is going on that can’t wait for you to return. You can go back to business on Monday. I’m sure everyone will understand.”
I don’t have the strength to fight him on this. Exhaustion is consuming every fiber of my being, and I honestly can’t find any more reasons to refuse it. If he says Guskov is okay with it, maybe it won’t be that bad if I step away for two days. It’s been a hell of a month. I doubt my men will be mad at me for it.
I can give them some time off eventually, too, so they feel appreciated.
The next morning, I put together a small bag of clothes, and Angelo and I get into the car right after breakfast for our weekend off. He drives us to a Saints safehouse outside New York, away from all the noise and madness of the city.
The place is a private retreat. It looks like a small cabin in the middle of the woods. It’s cozy, silent, and most importantly, private. There’s no one around other than a couple of guards that Angelo called to watch the house.
I barely see them, though, and I could bet Angelo ordered them to be invisible.
“It’s really strange to be this…quiet,” I murmur after we have settled down, having put our bags in the bedroom and lit up the fireplace in the living room. Angelo opened a bottle of wine and poured two glasses for us, and I offered to make us some pasta to have for lunch.
He turns on soft music while we eat, and for a moment, I forget about all of my problems outside the door.
It’s just me and him.
Nothing else matters.
“This was an amazing idea,” I tell him, sipping the wine as I finish my meal and set my plate aside. “Thank you for bringing me here and taking me out of the chaos for a change.”
He shakes his head, getting up from the table and moving toward me. He takes my hand and pulls me toward the carpet in front of the fireplace. Then he sits on the floor, pulling me into his lap afterward.
“You’ll eventually get used to it. Don’t be too hard on yourself, though. You’re doing great,” he says softly, his fingers tangling in my hair. I close my eyes, enjoying the feeling it brings me.
“Am I?” I tilt my head, relishing his touch. “I feel like chaos will always catch up to us, no matter what we do.”
“I know.” He smiles kindly at me. “But I’ll always be here to remind you of what really matters. As long as we find our way back to each other, there’s nothing to fear, right?”
That was our promise. Be there for each other, no matter how hard things get along the way.
“Thank you for not letting me forget it,” I reply.
For a few days, when everything caught up to me, I was afraid I was going to lose myself. I was afraid that I’d easily turn into a soulless person, someone who only cares about achievements and results.
But Angelo was always there to remind me that this is not who I really am.
It’s part of the career I chose, sure, but deep down, it’s what’s in my soul that really defines who I am.
And I want to be the woman he fell in love with.
For that to happen, I need him by my side, to remind me of who I’m supposed to be every single day.
“I will never let you forget it,” he whispers, his hand reaching for the back of my neck and pulling me into a kiss.
A kiss that quickly turns into desperation.
I cling to him as if I’m drowning and he is the only lifebuoy floating close to me.
Angelo lays me down, and I’m happy there’s a carpet under us, because the floor must be fucking cold. Silently, we remove each other’s clothes, and as soon as we’re both naked, I pull him toward me, claiming his lips once more.
He spreads my legs with his knee and adjusts himself between them. The heat radiating from him is enough to set me on fire. I’m already dripping wet, every cell in my body desperate for him to possess me.
He teases me with the tip of his dick, and I arch my back off the floor, gasping when his tongue grazes my earlobe.
“A bit in a rush, are we?” he teases, nibbling the sensitive skin of my neck.
“That’s not fair,” I grumble, locking my ankles behind his waist and pulling him down on me. “And yes, I’m in a bit of a rush. I need you,” I add, feeling as if I’m about to explode with all the pent-up energy inside me.
Angelo chuckles, and with a swift movement, he slides inside me, so easily and quickly that I’m left speechless for a second. My walls adjust to his length as I take him completely, and once we’re both ready, he starts his thrusts, slamming our hips together as if he wants us to become one.
I bite down on my lip, not wanting to make much of a scene, knowing the guards are silent, but they are still somewhere outside.
My vision starts to blur as Angelo hits just the right spot, and I sink my nails into his shoulders, holding on for dear life as he threatens to push me off the edge.
“Baby, I’m close—”
The words get stuck in my throat as my toes curl and my walls clench around him. I feel him throbbing inside me, and I close my eyes, letting myself fall into the abyss of pleasure.
I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of how great this man makes me feel.
