Chapter 59: Cold war.

Amaarae's POV

She said it, she knew this was going to happen and she had predicted that he would want this but I remembered her thin lips pressed together as she commanded me sternly to act oblivious.

In her own words, when he asks, “ Don't say a no or a yes.. just remain quiet.”

So I did.

I sat on the edge of my bed, watching Lucas with a mix of confusion and irritation. His intense gaze pinned me to the spot, like he was trying to pull answers straight from my soul.

He had stormed into my room without warning, his face carved from stone. For a long moment, he just stood there, staring at me, his lips pressed into a thin line.

“Where is it?” he asked finally, his voice low but heavy with demand.

“Where is what?” I asked, though I knew exactly what he was talking about.

“The scroll,” he said, his eyes narrowing.

I stared at him, dumbfounded. For a second, I debated whether to deny it entirely or throw the question back at him. But something about his demeanor made me hold my tongue. Instead, I just shook my head, feigning ignorance.

He didn’t press further. To my surprise, he didn’t even argue. He turned away, his expression unreadable, and began tearing through my room.

He opened drawers, flipped through books, and even pushed aside the few decorative pillows on my bed. His movements were quick, almost frantic, but when he came up empty-handed, he let out a frustrated growl.

I didn’t say a word, just watched him with my arms crossed. He wasn’t going to find it, not where I had hidden it.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Lucas straightened. He looked at me one last time, his eyes colder than before. Then, without another word, he stormed out of the room, slamming the door so hard the walls rattled.

The days that followed were tense. The air in the house felt thick, like it was charged with unspoken words and simmering anger. Lucas and I didn’t exchange more than a few clipped sentences. It was as if we were trapped in a silent war, each waiting for the other to make the next move.

For some reason, the house felt emptier than usual. The servants were gone, their absence eerily noticeable. Meals appeared when they needed to, but there was no sign of the usual bustle or chatter in the halls. It was just Lucas and me, locked in this uneasy stalemate.

I spent most of my time avoiding him, wandering the house aimlessly or sitting by myself in the garden. The swing under the old oak tree became my sanctuary. Its rhythmic creak as I swayed back and forth was oddly soothing, a small comfort in the midst of all the tension.

It was on one of those mornings, as I sat by the swing, that I heard the distant rumble of an engine. I looked up just in time to see Lucas’s sleek black car pulling into the driveway.

He stepped out, his movements sharp and deliberate. His eyes found me instantly, and for a moment, I thought he might ignore me completely. But instead, he walked straight toward me, his expression cold and unyielding.

“Follow me,” he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

I hesitated, gripping the ropes of the swing tightly. “Why?”

“Don’t make me repeat myself, Amaarae,” he said, his voice sharper now.

I swallowed hard, feeling the weight of his words. Something about the way he looked at me sent a shiver down my spine. Reluctantly, I stood and followed him toward the house, my mind racing with questions.

Lucas led me into the study, a room I rarely entered. The air inside was heavy with the scent of old books and polished wood. He closed the door behind us, locking it with a quiet click that felt louder than it should have.

He turned to face me, leaning against the edge of the desk with his arms crossed. For a long moment, he just stared, his eyes searching mine.

I looked away from him, pushing myself against the door as I sought an escape route..I didn't want to stay in the space as he did because of the air that I lost and couldn't recover.

I stood in one straight position oddly, not moving and not breathing either. Just my eyelashes batted as I examined his every move and waited for him to cause chaos.

He looked at me too, his eyes searching for answers and for a minute, I felt my legs wobble and I thought I was about to submit to his oppression but I pressed my feet harder and pressed my lips into a thin line.

I thought back to the scroll, thinking that was the reason why I was in his room of all places. It made it weirder. And scarier.

From these countless thoughts, I could feel my throat itch and the saliva made a pathway as I gulped.

I froze.

He looked up, staring into my eye and sending countless shivers down my spine as I clasped my palms with a straight look.

I bit my lips nervously and waited for him to speak but he took just as much as I took. I tried to disarray my thoughts by thinking about so much useless stuff but it wasn't working.

It was of no use to do that.

He walked closer to me, taking his fingertips and placing it on my chin as he raised it and made me look into his eyes. He had an odd look in his eyes, it glowed and shimmered at the same time and I became lost in them as time passed.

We stood in that position for a long time until my neck began to ache and I moved my head and caught him by surprise.

He smiled, grasping my hand as he said, “ What are you?” He took me by surprise by his questions, I saw my reflection in his eyes and I grew astonished by this look.

I shoved him aside as I coughed loudly and held my chest, the suppressed feeling surged and jabbed me in my heart.

“ Ah ah.” I whimpered, coughing and spluttering blood out of my mouth..

He didn't wait, he flew to my side and took my hands into his mouth before he started sucking my blood without a pause.

It gave me pleasure, one of his hands left my wrist and tore the top I was wearing as my breasts popped out of my top.

“ Ah.”
