Chapter 121
Chapter 122: Love in the Eye of the Storm
The first ding of the notification came before dawn.
Brielle woke to her phone buzzing on the bedside table. She fumbled for it, heart already in her throat.
Damian’s face filled the screen. He looked grim. Behind him the campus quad shimmered under streetlights.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered.
She jumped out of bed and threw on clothes, her mind racing.
Outside, the quad glowed with dozens of phones, students gathered in small crowds watching one central screen. The campus TV looped their wedding dance on Damian’s balcony. Their first kiss, their vows, their laughter.
It was public. Everyone was watching.
Brielle’s stomach dropped. She recognized the footage—private moments never meant for a single soul
Damian grabbed her hand. “We have to go.”
They pushed through the crowd, her heart pounding like thunder. Every glance burned her face.
They ducked into the nearest building, the old lecture hall. Inside, the seats whispered of empty classes but felt safer than the street.
He pulled her close. “I’m so sorry.”
“It’s not your fault,” she said, voice trembling. “But we have to stop this.”
He nodded. They raced upstairs to the AV booth. Inside, dusty cables coiled around dusty desks. The campus feed jumped on the wall monitor.
She flipped through controls. “It’s live. Right now.”
Damian pressed his palm to her back. “We can take it down.”
She bit her lip. “I hope so.”
He found the upload source—an old laptop left logged in. The cursor hovered over “End Broadcast.”
She reached for the mouse. Stopped.
“What if it’s gone forever?” she whispered.
He pressed his fingers to her hand. “We can replace it with our own story.”
She looked at him, tears in her eyes. “Together?”
“Together,” he promised.
She clicked “Stop.” The feed froze. The quad went dark.
On their screen, a new window opened: “Upload your message?”
He smiled. “Our turn.”
They recorded a short statement: We are free to love. Real love needs no permission. Thank you for letting us live it. They ended with a wave and a kiss.
They hit “Play.” Their faces smiled back at them on the monitor. Their love, unashamed.
Outside, phones stilled. A cheer rose from the crowd. Then applause.
Brielle exhaled, relief flooding her. Damian kissed her temple. “We did it.”
She smiled through tears. “You saved us again.”
He laughed. “You saved me.”
They left the AV booth arm in arm, stepping back into the quiet halls. The morning sun peeked through the windows.
They walked toward the art building. Every head turned. Every eye shone with new respect.
In the garden behind the building, they found Lira waiting. She held two steaming mugs of coffee.
“I heard,” she said softly, offering a mug to each of them.
They drank in silence, warmth spreading through them.
Lira sat beside them on the stone bench. “You did right.”
“Thank you,” Brielle said.
Lira smiled. “Heart and truth. That’s the strongest magic.”
Damian wrapped an arm around Brielle. She leaned into him.
For a moment, the world felt still and kind.
Then Lira’s phone buzzed. She checked it and her face went pale.
“What is it?” Brielle asked.
Lira swallowed. “There’s one more clip.”
They looked at her screen. A new link: “Behind the Door.”
They clicked. The video showed the AV booth from behind. A dark figure in the corner—hands typing fast, then slipping out a data stick.
“Who?” Damian demanded.
Lira shook her head. “I don’t know.”
Brielle felt her throat go dry. “They were in here while we recorded.”
Someone else used their own safe space to trap them.
Damian’s eyes flashed. “We have to find out.”
Brielle reached for him. “Together.”
He nodded. “Always.”
They rose, determination burning between them.
They didn’t see the eyes watching from the shadows of the hallway.
A low, familiar laugh echoed.
The figure stepped into view—and it was someone they never expected.
Their future, and their hearts, were about to face the storm again.
