Chapter 185: Don't Provoke Him
Ophelia was grateful to Benjamin for saving her. She planned to personally visit Benjamin's house to thank him after being discharged from the hospital, and if he ever needed help in the future, she would do her best to repay him. But there were some things she still needed to make clear.
"On the day of the accident, Benjamin said he just happened to pass by and saved both of us. But that place - he would never normally go there. Although the accident wasn't his fault, I believe him, but his behavior was too deliberate. So I think he must know something."
After hearing this, Gregory understood. He had never had a good impression of Ophelia's ex-husband, but hearing that Benjamin had saved Ophelia this time, he changed his view somewhat.
"Just rest and recover. I'll handle this matter."
Gregory was indeed more experienced than Ophelia in dealing with these things. As for Robert, Ophelia had never truly trusted him.
Ophelia reminded him again, "I always feel this has something to do with the Johnson family. Maybe we can investigate from their end."
The Johnson family had suffered quite a few losses at the hands of Ophelia and Gregory before, so they certainly had a motive.
Gregory naturally understood all this. After they finished talking, Ophelia gently urged him to leave. After all, if a big boss kept staying in her hospital room, it would be hard for others to believe there was nothing between them.
Vincent quickly stepped forward, "Dad, your matters are more important. I'll take care of Ophelia. If anything comes up, I'll tell you right away. Don't worry."
Gregory glanced at Vincent. He felt reassured leaving Ophelia in his care. Before leaving, he added, "Ophelia is still sick, so don't upset her for no reason."
Vincent felt somewhat frustrated. He felt that in Gregory's eyes, he was always someone who caused trouble, but actually, he knew his limits well.
After seeing Gregory off, Ophelia still couldn't let go of William's condition, so she had Vincent wheel her to Mike's office.
Mike had just returned from examining William. Seeing Ophelia, he directly told her about William's latest condition.
"In cases like his, we usually advise family members to prepare themselves mentally. I just examined him again and confirmed that the possibility of his complete recovery is only eight percent. If you still hope he can stand up again, you can only believe in miracles."
Hearing this, Ophelia looked stunned, tears almost falling. Mike's words sounded like a death sentence for William's future.
Seeing her like this, Mike quickly comforted her, "Things haven't reached the worst point yet, you don't need to feel so hopeless. Medical science is developing rapidly. Things that seemed impossible before might have a breakthrough tomorrow."
Mike gently patted her shoulder and continued comforting her, "I've watched you grow up since you were little, and I've always kept your husband's situation in mind. I have a senior classmate who has focused on rehabilitation since university. She's now an expert in the field, but she's currently abroad. The day your grandmother mentioned this to me, I contacted her in advance."
"I have experience and confidence in William's early treatment. Once his condition stabilizes, I'll invite my senior over, and we'll work together. Don't give up too early now. When I say he might recover normally, I'm not just comforting you."
Ophelia quickly wiped away her tears, trying to pull herself together. She knew she couldn't let despair defeat her at this moment.
"Thank you. Please continue to look after William. Don't tell him about this result - just say there's a lot of hope. He cares a lot about these things."
Otherwise, he wouldn't have made up the story about losing his memory after learning he couldn't stand up.
Mike communicated with William afterward, but William didn't believe him, though he didn't show it.
He started doing some troublesome things, like not cooperating with doctors and not letting people visit him, especially Ophelia.
He had originally returned to the room with Mike, but William absolutely refused to let Ophelia in. Ophelia wouldn't give up and insisted on having Vincent wheel her inside.
William suddenly lost his temper and threw things from the table at her. Fortunately, Vincent blocked in front, so Ophelia wasn't hit.
Vincent wouldn't tolerate William's behavior. He picked up an apple from the floor and threw it directly at William's bed.
"William, what's wrong with you? Ophelia didn't do anything. She just wanted to check on your condition."
However, Timothy caught the apple.
In this situation, Timothy could only come out to smooth things over, explaining with a forced smile, "Mr. Kennedy, he rarely gets sick, and when he does, his temper gets really bad. Especially now, he doesn't want others to see him suffering. He's not deliberately targeting Ophelia. Please don't take it to heart."
Vincent understood and didn't say more, directly wheeling Ophelia out of the room.
Before leaving, Ophelia took one last look at William.
William was like someone guarding his territory. Though he looked aggrieved, he used extreme actions to drive people away.
Ophelia understood - he just cared too much about his dignity and didn't want her to see his vulnerable side.
So Ophelia wasn't angry. Mike had also reminded her that patients now were most afraid of being upset, and the only one who could upset William was she.
Ophelia let Vincent wheel her away.
After leaving the room, Vincent's anger hadn't subsided. He had reluctantly accepted William as his brother-in-law because William treated Ophelia well, but now William dared to throw things at Ophelia!
"He's too much. What about the idea I mentioned last time? I have a few good-looking friends - young and handsome. They'd definitely make him angry."
Ophelia urged him to drop that idea immediately.
"He can't handle being upset right now. Actually, he became like this because of me."
If William hadn't shielded her, she would be the one lying in bed today.
After hearing this, Vincent said nothing more. Though he was still upset, he listened to Ophelia.
