Chapter 135: MEDICAL VISIT FOR MY LITTLE ALPHA “FRIEND”
ISABELLA
“Where do you think you’re going, coming this way and cutting class?” he asked, in a more serious tone than he usually used.
“I hope you’re not trying to sneak out of the Academy, because if you are...”
“Professor Leonardo, the girls were taking me to the infirmary. Look, the medical building,” I said, sticking to the story I’d rehearsed.
I pointed toward the back, and his expression flickered, like I’d just messed up whatever he’d been setting up.
“I’ve heard you’ve been in the infirmary a lot lately. Haven’t you recovered from the accident yet? Are you still feeling bad?” I might’ve believed his concern if I didn’t know he was two-faced.
“Yeah. I still have some gaps... and headaches,” I said, putting on my best act. Kiara even grabbed my arm, looking “worried.”
“Fine. Go ahead. But I need to talk to you about something, Savannah. In private,” he added, staring at me with those dark, piercing eyes.
“Yeah, tomorrow...”
“Not tomorrow. Today.” It wasn’t a suggestion. It was an order.
I nodded, forcing myself not to frown, while he turned around and walked off.
“What’s wrong with him? He’s never been that rude. Not even with the real Savannah,” Kiara whispered in my ear.
“His plans are getting messy and he’s getting anxious. That’s why he thinks he can use ‘Savannah,’” I muttered back with a mocking snort.
“Come on, before he comes back to supervise,” I told the girls, and we headed toward the isolated building.
He didn’t care enough to even notice my twin was always in the infirmary, because Miska kept her slammed up against the wall.
He’s a cynic. And I don’t even know why his fake, knight-in-shining-armor act attracted me in the first place.
“Hey... wait a second,” I whispered, glancing through a first-floor window of the medical building, straight into a private room.
“Harper, give me a boost.”
With a wicked little laugh, I hauled myself up to the open window.
I dropped into the room light on my feet, then walked slowly toward the bed where a mummy named Miska was resting.
And I called her a mummy because she had bandages even on her tongue.
On the bedside table sat a beautiful vase of flowers. I grabbed it and yanked the bouquet out.
Then I stood right beside her. She had to be on painkillers, because she didn’t even react... but we were about to fix that.
“Rise and shine, sunshine!” I yelled as I dumped the water and leaves straight into her face.
“Ahh!” Miska screamed, jolting upright, her face dripping, terrified.
The second she saw me, the fear snapped into panic.
She scrambled back against the headboard, baring her fangs.
One eye darted around wildly. The other was wrapped up.
Thera snarled, all defiant, at the wounded Alpha.
“Well, look who we’ve got here. My friend Miska,” I said, sitting on the edge of the bed and slamming the vase down hard on the table.
She flinched so fast it was almost funny. She was still shaken from last night.
“What the hell are you doing here? Were you planning to attack me while I slept?” Her voice came out rough and slow.
“Please. You were snoring, woman. If I wanted to do something to you, I would’ve thrown the vase, not water,” I scoffed.
She opened her mouth to say something, but right then the door flew open and two of her bootlickers rushed in.
Those Serafinas with no pride.
“Miska! Savannah, you’ve lost your mind!” they yelled the moment they saw me.
One of them lunged, and I grabbed Miska’s hand, using my Serafina power. Pain snapped through her like tiny needles biting into her skin.
“Stop her,” I whispered, low and warning, while she clamped her lips shut so she wouldn’t scream.
“Wait, Cloe!” Miska shouted, but the girl was already about to touch me. “I TOLD YOU TO STOP, STUPID...! Cough, cough...”
She started coughing, and blood streaked down from her mouth. Her insides were still shredded.
“But, Miska...” Those idiots froze, glaring at me like they wanted to tear my head off.
You could tell their precious “hero” Miska hadn’t told them I’m the one who put her in this state.
“Get out of the room,” she ordered, and when they hesitated, she snarled again, furious.
“No need to get all hostile.” I snorted when the door shut behind those two.
“Tell me what you want already. You came to get revenge for what I did to your...!”
“Tsk, tsk... what did I tell you about running your mouth, Alpha wannabe...”
My power crackled, sparking like a live wire between my fingers, and Miska flinched back until she was practically wedged into the headboard.
Agata had told me the Serafina gift was wasted on wolves.
That we could do so much more with that magic... you just had to know how to hit the right keys.
Every day, I practiced a little.
“I came to tell you to use those contacts of yours. If anyone comes asking about me or my friends, one of your paid-off nurses better tell them we’re on bed rest... or whatever keeps us covered,” I said.
She stared at me like she wanted to kill me on the spot, but she didn’t argue.
“Understood?”
“I’m not your damn servant...”
“Did I ask if you understood, Miska?!”
“Yes, I understood! Damn it, I understood!” she snapped.
In the end, she was still a proud Alpha. She wasn’t going to fold without at least flashing her fangs.
“Good. Do it right. And one more thing... if any of your bitches bite us, I’ll collect that debt from you... and Kaden will know.”
At that, I could almost see curses sparking in her eyes.
“They’re not going to bother them,” she said, finally.
“That’s more like it. And remember... especially Professor Leonardo... I’m very, very sick... and if you rat me out, I won’t be the only one bleeding.” That was my last warning before I climbed back out through the window.
Yeah... she’s probably going to ask for a room on the top floor from now on.
Kiara, Harper, and I cut through the woods.
We’d already made it a good distance when a guard came out of nowhere and intercepted us.
