Chapter 27: Sisterly Competition (Season I Finale)

Present Day-Succubus Hotel

Liam closed the book, and everyone’s eyes darted to one another. Covering her mouth, Lilith’s hand shook. “M-Morrigan did this?”

“With the help of Elder Bermude,” Calchas said slowly.

“But why?”

“Because if you five succeed then you govern everything. The mortal realm, what’s left of Cystalgrove, EVERYTHING...every new place you create, you rule.”

Lilith shook her head and pointed to the book, “Be more specific, I think we’re owed that. Why would an ELDER care about something like-” Her blood ran cold as her memory slowly started to return. “Because they rule until they no longer have to.”

“That’s how it was always designed. They awaken and oversee until the power of Gaia is shown and then they return to their slumber, Bermude didn’t want to give up that control.”

The silence deafening in the room as everyone began to remember what happened next.

“Melanie used my mother’s name and created a child for me to mourn,” Noah said through clenched teeth. “Filled me with all that self-hatred and-” He turned to Lilith, “Distaste against you, we were so close over and over and over and over we were made to forget.”

As they mourned their father, their home, and all the things they lost, Samantha found herself studying Calchas. Slowly lifting his head, he looked at her before leaving the room.

A few minutes later Calchas heard a small knock on the door. Sitting on the bed, he ran his hand through his purple hair. “Come in Sam, I know it’s you.” He watched her open the door, and she raced over to him. He felt her tears fall against him and he shook his head, “Please honey don’t make me tell what happened next. I can feel it, you want to know what happened to me.” He lifted her face and ran his thumb over her cheek, “That’s a type of torture you don’t need, and I love you too much to make you live it.”

Samantha kissed his fingers, “Tell me anyway...please. I need to make sense of everything.”

He let out a sigh and showed her one of his etching, “The seerer loses his Succubus love. They said her death would be the catalyst to shine a light on the truth, but I really think it was a punishment for me interfering.” Standing, he folded his arms to his chest, “They watched as you both faded from my arms, watched as Bermude aided Morrigan in the plan.” Lips twisted, he spoke sarcastically, “Gave me a pat on the back for exposing him. Said he would be taken care of and not to worry.”

“But then why didn’t you come with us, or why didn’t we come back?”

“Because we were always supposed to part, but it was supposed to be temporary. The way they figured, I have two good reasons to cheat for Lilith and the others and since technically I did, they said I was to be punished along with Bermude.”

“But that’s not fair! You didn’t cheat you-” Her words trailed off. “The stuff we put in the book...the symbols, guides…”

“I told you some of what to put in there, but I made sure that you didn’t tell me everything. That way they couldn’t pull it from me and change what we’d done.” He looked up to the ceiling, his blood boiling, “I couldn’t show them what I didn’t know, so the punishment was to make me watch. I had to watch as everything unfolded even when Sahir and Melanie wrote that bullshit in the book on what they thought were blank pages There was nothing I could do to directly help, but I continued to find ways even though I couldn't physically come to this realm. It was me who planted Sahir’s jacket for Noah to find and me who left the cell phone for Jasmine.”

Samantha's eyes widened, and she stood and walked over to him. Pulling him down to her, she covered her lips with his. He let out a small sigh of content, before kissing her deeper. Releasing her, he let a tear fall.

“I used to love closing my sight just so it would be a surprise when you and Chas would come home because as much as I HATE surprises, those two were my favorite ones.”

She covered her mouth and looked away and then turned and placed her forehead against his, “I love you and I've missed you.”

He grinned, “I love you and missed you as well.” Stroking her hair, he let out a small chuckle, “And yes, I know you’re still going to make me wait.”

“You bet your sweet purple ass I am.” Sharing a laugh together for the first time in years, Calchas suddenly stopped as his face hardened. Samantha looked into his eyes, “A-are you okay?”

Turning swiftly, he reached out into the open air and grabbed Morrigan by the throat. He pulled her from the shadows and slammed her hard into the floor. Tightening his grip, he seethed at her, “I was hoping you’d show up.”

Her eyes bulged from her skull, “Y-you can’t kill me.”

Letting out a loud groan, he released her, “No, but she can.” He looked over his shoulder and saw Lilith’s purple eyes locked on her sisters.

“Bitch” She said, stepping forward.

Morrigan smiled, “Hello to you too big sis.”

“I hope you’re still as cheery when I put my foot up your fucking-”

Morrigan raised her hand, “I didn’t come here to beat your ass Lil. Well not, in that sense. I came here to set forth a competition. I challenge you for the gifts of Gaia.”

Lilith looked at her as if she’s insane, “Are you nuts? You can’t take my powers from me. Why the hell would you even think for one moment I would accept that.”

Morrigan smiled widened and her eyes shot to Samantha. Before Calchas could grab her, Samantha’s body flew into the wall. An arrow impaled her neck, and she struggled to breathe.

“SAM!” Lilith screamed as she tore across the room to her.

Calchas rushed to Samantha's side, and his hands shook as blood poured from her neck onto him.

Morrigan snapped her fingers, ‘Well go on Lil, use your extraordinary powers to heal her.” She raised her hand to the sky, “Oh yeah, that’s right, you never passed your tests in the first place so you don’t know how.”

Lilith lip quivered, “Why are you doing this?”

“BECAUSE I’M TIRED OF PLAYING THIRD FIDDLE TO TWO SISTERS WHO EVERYBODY ADORES!” She fumed at her sister, “I thought when I killed Astaroth I would be done with this shit, I even tired to put you in a nice sleep but nope here you still are, ruining what should be mine!” She turned to Calchas, “Go on, summon those old fucks, I don’t have all day.”

The Elders appeared and the smell of death entered the room.

“Morrigan” Hectate hissed. “What is the meaning of this.”

“Stop wasting my time, you already know. I want to throw my hat into the ring. I’m as royal as Lilith and I know for a fact you can transfer her powers to me if I succeed.”

He looked from one sister to the other, then to Samantha. Waving his hand, he stopped her bleeding and then turned to Lilith. “This is your choice, you must choose wisely for if she wins she will not only get your powers-” He pointed to the brothers, “But she will get them and all the Succubi.”

“What?”

The Elders nodded. “The prophecy aligns the gifts of Gaia with four that can balance its power. They are to rule over all including the ones like you.” As if he could read her thoughts he shook his head, “I cannot heal her. Healing her shall be the final test. Gather the knowledge of the gifts, master them and if successful, use them to heal her, if not, death shall be her fate.”

“And if I say no?”

“You forfeit your test and as such your powers.”

Lilith closed her eyes tightly, and she clenched her fist. Her back against the wall, she knew she had no other choice. Feeling arms around her, she opened them and locked eyes with Noah.

He nodded his head, “We got you...kick her ass.” Looking past him, she saw Liam, Jayden, and Mason nodding theirs as well.

"You better not lose us Lil, I do NOT want to have to smell her any longer than I have to." Liam grumbled as Morrigan cut her eyes at him.

Lilith took a deep breath and kissed them all on their cheeks, then walked to her sister and sized her up, “Fine, you've got yourself a deal.”
