Chapter 48: CHAPTER FORTY EIGHT

Everyone in the mansion was excited about the wedding that’s about to take place in the mansion, after the news of the wedding was announced some days back, the whole mansion beamed with happiness and gladness for the union that had taken forever to happen, the whole place was in a good state, it was Adam’s wedding day after all the months of waiting and waiting for him to make up his mind, the reason behind his sudden change of plan was unknown to everyone but it was obvious that Sarah’s disappearance was a ruling force as to why the wedding was scheduled, the air around the house was different, everyone all had a reason to smile again, the whole mansion, everyone was engaged in either getting Adam ready or getting Xana ready, Alicia is her round, the happiest of them all glad and happy that her plans to marry Xana to Adam finally worked and there was no greater joy in seeing that Xana was with Adam, the whole pack was there, the whole surrounding had being decorated to suit the occasion, Alicia was gathering the maids to each end of the room, assigning specific duties to each of them, she was not going to allow anything ruin the wedding she had planned in her head for some time, Alisha had a grin on her face as the maid applied makeup to her beautiful face and she couldn’t help but wonder how lucky she was to witness this day, her rescue at the Haiti gave her another reason to live again considering the way she fought and Adam fought for her rescue. All the more reason to finally get what she wanted, which is Xana getting married to Adam. The wedding was going to happen in a few hours and she was overly excited with joy.

Xana sat still in her room while the maids did the job or arranging the hem of her white dress, she didn’t want an overflowing gown, she thought of it as old fashioned as she reached for her simple white gown she loved with all her might, she did just love the gown due to the embroidery on it, she was excited that she was finally getting married to Adam after all the hurdles in getting back to him. After today, she was going to be his mate and his Luna, everything about her would change- a queen, she thought as she watched the maid who was arranging her hair;

“I want it perfect, '' she said with full authority.

“Yes ma’am,” the maid replied. It was her wedding and she wanted nothing left out, she had to look exquisite for the party, some minutes ago, her friends had called that they were on their way to the mansion and noting made her proud that seeing her friends happy for her on her wedding day. The maid had left her hair done and was doing final touches to her makeup. She wanted a very nude makeup, as cool as possible, she thought while she recalled everything that had happened. Everything was getting smooth before Sarah surfaced and claimed her position and she had forced her way into the palace to scatter what she had planned for Adam and herself.

The whole place was bustling and filled up with different people from different clans, it was not a big wedding, just the gathering of folks nearby and pack members. Meanwhile Adam was in his room preparing for his wedding but his mind was divided, all the while he thinks about Sarah, he knew what they shared was divine and he still couldn’t believe he was getting married to Xana, the thought of having another woman in his bed who was not Sarah triggered him, as he looked over the bed, he remembered the night he had kissed her and how good she felt about the kiss, he was utterly happy that he was able to build a strong bond with someone but he was upset with her for killing a clan member, every other thing would have been able to withhold but not killing s clan member, it was unreasonable to kill a clan member in the same house, as he thinks about it, the more rage he feels for her.

He was too engrossed in the wedding plans that he had not thought of what her disappearance did to him, he was sullen and had been mopping for some time now, she was the obvious reason why he was this way, from his chambers, he could hear the bustling and hustling of people in the hall, he loved that they were doing everything possible to make the wedding a success but he still needed some time to think throughout the whole process, he laughed to himself as he thought about how many days they had given him to make his decision. All that mattered to him was how upset he was about Sarah and how he was going to get the whole wedding thing done with as possible, Xana was the one enjoying the wedding, he thought because she had been the one on his neck for some time and he couldn’t understand why.

As he fumbled his back pocket looking for the rings, he found it, and kept it on the dresser so it would be in sight just in time to reach for it, his suit was ready hung in one of the drawers, he had just dismissed the maid who helped him with his hair and he loved the way it was styled, all the while admiring himself in the full length mirror before him.

How was she able to kill her? The day he met her on the road, she had tried to suck my blood and kill me after struggling for my clothes but she was unable to kill me. Yes! Her fangs were little, so little that they couldn’t even puncture the human flesh, her fangs were undeniably small and he had joked about it to her on a day when they were both smiling.

How did she murder Selena?

This was the first thing in his mind when he asked himself. He was wondering how a little fang would puncture into a human flesh, when he returned he hadn’t bothered to look at the body because it was being prepared for the rites to the beyond so there was no way he would have seen it and Sarah was not here to defend herself and the day of the murder, she was left alone by herself to defend the family and the pack, all the while he quickly applied his cologne and settled on the chair, rethinking the whole process over and again, he wanted to be sure they were making a mistake.

He knew Sarah was incapable of murder but there was nothing to be done since they all tagged her Selena’s murderer and he wished he was there to see the whole event play out but he wasn’t there but he knew it would have been more difficult if he was there and she was declared the murderer, the sharp ting on his stomach would have made him uncomfortable. As he sat up looking at the watch on his wrist, it was almost time for the wedding but his mind had not fully processed the killing of Selena, he was sure the huge crowd would be waiting for him to lead the marriage.

Something is wrong somewhere, he thought.

Since Sarah’s fangs were little and she didn’t kill Selena, who did? Or did it mean there was another vampire in their midst? He thought as his heart had started racing, for him to fully understand the idea of Selena’s murder, he had to see her and ask her to tell him the truth truthfully.

As he pondered again on the thought, nothing made sense to him, who killed Selena? No one had fangs except vampires and it made him totally confused of the thought forming in his head. Why had he not thought about it before? The idea of Sarah killing Selena couldn’t even form in his head, the whole clan had been furious that day to think of investigating the matter, if there was a way out he’d have prevented it. He knew he needed to search for the truth.

The only way to find the truth was to search for Sarah but it was his wedding day, how was he going to go over the crowd that had filled the large hall? How was he going to hunt down Sarah? How was he going to ever find out who killed Selena? How was he going to ever find out who framed Sarah? As he settled for his shoes, he wore them, arranged the suit to his taste, and gathered himself before leaving the room.

As he left his room, he met huge round balloons placed on different sides of the hall, everywhere was well lit and it looked magical how the hall could ultimately transform into something different, all this while he thought of the way to go out without being noticed. Alicia was standing just behind the table, she was yet to prepare yet probably because she wanted everything in perfect order before she got fully prepared.

The guards were standing on guard ready to attack anyone who would pose a threat, ever since the attack on the pack, they became extra careful in allowing just anyone into the house, the rest of the team. He was proceeding up the stairs when Alisha came to him looking pretty as ever and he was glad he was able to save her on the day of her kidnap because the thought will forever taunt him. She looked beautiful in her gown, exceptionally beautiful, he thought.

“Hey, brother. Excited about getting hooked soon?” she asked, smiling to her chins, he could see the excitement displayed on her lips, it's all she had ever wanted to get him to marry Xana. Adam didn’t like the sound of hooked, the idea of the word meant stuck which meant he was stuck with her forever, he didn’t smile or laugh. He just let out again that displayed on his teeth.

“I wouldn’t say for sure,” he replied just in time to catch her eyes scanning through his outfit. She didn’t give a smile, she raised her brows and stopped halfway to his body, the look on her face meant he skipped something and he couldn’t help but wonder what he skipped. He looked over her shoulders and found his mother coming towards him.

“Why? You haven’t even made your tie yet? Adam, you look dazed? Why is that?" Alicia asked her son because Adam had no expression whatsoever on his face. His face looked truly dazed. It was getting really difficult for him to get out of the house, the whole place was stuffed up and there was no visible way out.

“I need to go.” He didn’t know when the words left his mouth, his head had spoken before his mouth, he wanted to tell them he didn’t really mean like he wanted to go, he wanted to tell them he wanted to search for Sarah without breaking their heart but he knew he would break their hearts one way or the other, or in any way he puts it as it was suddenly the next line of action he thought about. Alicia and Alisha both had trouble interpreting what he had just said and he was unmoved by their expressions. The look on their faces gave it all off. There was no movement whatsoever, just numbness.

“Go where?” Alicia asked, raising her head in total shock. Her eyes had widened when she came out to ask why he was without a tie and still unable to understand his complete dazedness. She was shocked at his words. She had just finished one hell of work with the maids trying to sort things out to perfection and here was her son saying he wanted to go out on his wedding day. It was remotely impossible and she assured herself she was not going to let him after all the troubles it took her to get him to marry Xana , here he was saying he wanted to go.

Xana must be inside her chambers trying to look impeccably beautiful for the marriage she had longed for.

“Go where?" Alisha asked him with her eyes searching his eyes for the truth but it appeared she found none because her eyes dropped to the ground looking at the crystal petals at the side of the hallway.

The crystal shone beautifully on the hall majorly because the hall was illuminated by different beautiful lights that seemed to capture the moment.

Adam wasn’t ready for the question and answer session commenced by his mother and sister, where did he look like he was going? He definitely didn’t look like he was going to fight a war although there was something important to him as a war, why were they bugging him with questions, he was not in the mood for the question that were definitely going to be unanswered, he had given them that large glance before passing the duo to the grand floor, as he looked around he could actually see the troubles they were going through in getting the hall ready for a wedding that would definitely not hold, as he walked past the chief maid, he smelled chicken and beef all over her body and she was giving him the congratulatory smile he hated.

She must have been in the kitchen since last night, he thought while moving to the door as he reached for the large door, the guards made way for him to pass and before he stepped out into the bright air, he heard what looked like Xana’s screams filling his ear as he walked into his truck, switched on the ignition and drove into the road, the main reason he wasn’t passing along the woods was because he didn’t know where he was headed. All he knew was that he wanted to search for Sarah and that was all that mattered to him now, not the wedding, not his mother and sister, not the road and definitely not Xana.
