Chapter 46: CHAPTER FORTY-SIX

Kim's POV

"You better speak when I talk to you. Your so-called husband isn't here and so you answer to me you little brat." His eyes were glittering with something, I couldn't really place it. It felt like a jumble of emotions but every one of them was evil.

I still didn't want to speak but I didn't trust the man standing before me. He felt like a total stranger, nothing like the man I used to know. I couldn't even process my emotions at that moment. I needed him to get away from me so I could think and figure out what to do. My best bet was to play along and tell him whatever it was he wanted to hear.

"How does it feel to try to hurt someone that you claim to love?" I asked him without thinking.

"Oh, who said I want to hurt you? I just want to squeeze your little bum again. You see I have missed you and I was sad that Craig took you away from me," he said with a mischievous gleam in his eyes.

If I had a gun in my hands, I would have shot him. The image of Hugo falling when he got shot flew across my mind's eye and for a full second, my brain was filled with intense panic again. I worried that he was hurt and I worried about his being able to walk again. I feel tears prick my eyes again. I want to swipe them away but my hands are firmly bound behind the chair I was sitting on.

"So what do you say?" He started with a disgusting smirk on his face. "Me and you, overseas, we start a new life and our love grows forever never to be interrupted again"

I spat at him. "You'll never get away with anything you do. Right now even as we speak, my husband already knows I'm missing and he's coming to get me. You better not be here when he comes."

The fury in his eyes could set me ablaze. I was not sticking to my original plans and there was no telling what this mean-ass bastard was going to do to me if I continued.

"The next time you open your mouth and dare to say 'husband' in front of me, I will slap you so hard you will stars. That is if you don't go and be with the Lord because if I can't have you then no one else will." At this point, he was raising his voice so loud that I was wondering where the fuck we were.

He was comfortable raising his voice and was confidently saying shit. The more I thought of the possibility that I may not even be within reach, the more scared I got.

I had bragged about Craig coming but how in the world was he supposed to know where I was? The urge to cry was so bad but I needed my mind at full speed. First I needed to figure out what time of the day it was. I also needed to figure out at what point people at home would know that I was missing and maybe alert Craig.

"We leave at first light tomorrow and until then, I want you to remember that no one knows where you are, no one is coming to get you and so in your best interest, I suggest you stay calm and do as I say" he snared

When he turned around to go, I saw a flash of the man on the other side of the door. He was tall and huge and much like the one that drugged me to be unconscious when I got kidnapped but I couldn't really be sure.

I needed to think fast. I looked around the room to assess the possibility of an escape. I knew I was bound and had next to no skill of escaping but at least I had to try. Nicholas said we were leaving Paris tomorrow morning and I knew he would make good his threat.

The next thing was to assess what time it was so I could figure out how long I had to attempt escape before we could leave Paris. My head was a mess. I was thinking of too many things at once.

What if I couldn't escape? What if Craig couldn't find me? What would happen to Jason? What exactly did Nicholas want to do to me as part of his revenge for leaving? I was scared of so much and all I had was myself and pure luck.

My first plan was to listen and try to pick out outside noise, everywhere in Paris had night noise and you could hear it from even the highest buildings. I was listening to know what time it was. I didn't want to attempt to escape in broad daylight. It would make everything harder for me. My chances of making it out of here were generally going to be better at night when a couple of my prisoners could be sleeping.

As I listened for night noises, I picked up on a couple of other sounds. They were muffled and sounded like they were coming from the room. I heard what sounded like a woman's voice, there was some tension but I couldn't quite pick out what she was saying.

"I... call ... you don't..." the man was speaking and I was doing my best to catch what he was saying since his voice was louder. The next time the woman spoke. I knew without any hesitation that it was Cheryl arguing with Nicholas. I tried to eavesdrop some more but the conversation suddenly stopped like they felt someone listening.

I spent the next few minutes taking in the room. It was bare and had only a bed, a table, and the chair that I was bound to. One more look around confirmed my suspicions. It looked like one of those abandoned homes that were out of the way that nobody lived in. It further heightened my fear but instead of panicking, I resolved to figure out a sustainable plan to escape.

Crickets were starting to chirp and I figured that it was already nightfall. I tried the ropes holding me bound, flexing my body to wiggle the easiest way to wiggle out of it. At first, it was firm and unmoving. I was already starting to give up hope when I noted that the window had a sharp broken edge. It was risky trying to use that but I didn't care at that moment.

I had a couple of hurdles, my legs were tied to the chair and my hands were tied behind my back. I know I was determined but for one split second, I felt tears of frustration sting my eyes. I decided the best course of action was to nudge my chair till it got to the windows.

It was a fucking long nudge and with each push, the ropes dug into my ribs and my ankles but I had no thought to my turmoil. I kept shoving myself forward till I was sitting right in front of the window. I looked closely at the shard and realized that the attempt I made would draw blood because my hands were behind my back.

I stood up, with my back to the window, and I tried to position my hands in the best way to avoid major cuts. I was about to start cutting when I heard someone at the door. My heart went to my mouth. I quickly sat down and stayed in position hoping that whoever was at the door would not notice that I moved.

My eyes flew to the door when it opened and the person standing there made her heart turn over with fury. It was Cheryl smirking and looking down on me like I was a beggar.

"Now how does it feel to get a taste of your own medicine, Kimmy?" I could have dislodged her perfect nose with a clean blow if only my hands were free.

"Relax, darling I only came to you to say goodbye and that you have a good time in the Americas with your new man. Next time this will teach you to stay the fuck away from things that do not belong to you!" She sneered. Before I got the opportunity to reply, she opened the door and was gone.

I was so mad that I started crying, glad that she didn't notice anything about my position. I stood up and continued cutting away at my bonds. I had just just gotten a big cut and was consoling myself to continue when I heard a gunshot.

My heart completely exploded with fresh fear. I was still, trying to figure out what to do next when I started hearing doors banging open with enough force to shake the house. When my door opened, I almost fainted with relief.

Craig was just there, standing like my knight came to life. He ran to me, kissing me and freeing me from my bonds.

"You are my life and I would die before I let anything happen to you," he whispered.
