Chapter 93

“Of course, you can, son.”

Luis pulls him into a hug before he closes the door behind him.

He leads him over to the bed and pulls the blankets back. They get Veronica situated in the middle rolled on her side facing Octavio and he snuggles up in her arms and then Luis snuggles up behind her holding her tight.

As they snuggle up to her the babies move again.

“Oct, do you feel that?”

“Yeah. What is that?”

“That’s the babies. They know you are there and are playing with you.” Luis says with a chuckle. They both put their hands on her belly to feel the movement.

“It’s so weird and cool at the same time.” Oct says.

“I know right. I wonder how it feels for your mom.”

“Oh, I didn’t even think about that. That would be weird.”

“Yeah that’s why we went to the hospital today. We didn’t know what it was and got worried. The doctor says it happens all the time with new parents.” Luis says with a chuckle.

“That’s what set it off harder didn’t it?” Octavio asks.

“You’re too smart for your own good. Yeah it was. I think she still feels guilty.”

“I wish I could make her see that she doesn’t have anything to be guilty for.”

“You are doing it son. By being with her and by her side as she processes everything, you are telling her not be guilty.”

“Your dad is right. By you both being here, it is helping more than anything. I can’t promise I will even get over it but I promise I am trying.” Veronica says startling them when she talks.

“We know that baby. It’s not helping that you are pregnant. I wish we could take away the pain for you.”

“I know you do, my love. The pain though reminds me that I need to fix myself. But that starts with having you both in my life and holding me up when I can’t do it myself right now. I honestly don’t know if I would still be here if it wasn’t for you two.” Veronica says as a couple of stray tears run down her cheeks.

“We aren’t going anywhere baby.”

“Yeah, mama. You’re stuck with us forever.”

“Good just the way I want it.” Veronica says with a chuckle. “Oh gosh that’s weird.”

“What’s wrong love?” Luis says as he sits upright.

“The babies are moving. It feels so weird.” She says with a chuckle.

“I’m sure it’s even weirder for you than it is for us just feeling it on the outside.” Luis says as they all put their hands on her belly as the babies are moving.

“Luis?”

“Yes, my love.”

“I think I need to keep taking that medicine. I know that I can’t expect it to help right away but obviously it is doing something already.”

“Of course, love. I think that’s a good idea. Anything to help you with the hormones he was talking about. We will gladly endure if that’s what you want too so don’t feel like you have to just to help us. It’s not about us right now.”

“I know and thank you for that. I really do think it would be better for me and help me get through all my issues right now. I think I should start meeting with that Dr. Johnson too.”

“Whatever you need my love we will do. We can call tomorrow and get you some appointments set up. We will even go with you if that’s what you need. Really whatever you need to work through this we are up for it.”

“Thank you both again.” Veronica says as she snuggles into them both before falling asleep.

It’s the first night in weeks, she has slept through the night without waking up several times crying.

About 5 months later, Veronica is seven and a half months pregnant and at this point is huge from carrying the twins. She hasn’t been able to attend any of the meetings as it is too much risk to her and the babies to go anywhere.

Luis has taken Octavio into the city to meet with Christopher. Christopher and Tiffany are getting remarried in the city about an hour away.

Trish and Vicente have taken the girls to the beach for the day to clear their heads.

Veronica sits on the couch watching a movie. She is getting frustrated because that is where she has spent most of her time lately. She is getting more uncomfortable now with the babies growing so much that she can no longer get comfortable even sitting around.

She has started having some back pain over the last couple of days too. Of course, it is only adding to her discomfort as well. Nothing seems to help it which only adds to her frustration.

She walks out to the pool deck to at least be outside and as she is sitting down there is a rush of fluid from between her legs. She quickly stands back up and looks down trying to figure out if it’s her water or if she peed herself.

She is then hit with the worst pain she has ever had in her entire life causing her to scream in pain and fall to her knees.

Gavin comes running in and sees the water. “Jefa. You’re in labor. We have to go now.”
