Chapter 27

I ran ahead slashing my opponents as I went focusing my energy on fighting them. Others followed closely behind me fighting as they come by. The strigoi were caught off guard due to our actions. They didn't have any time to shift into those little creatures to form a surprise attack on us. We had to hurry, the war had already started between our kingdoms.

We have to open this cave-like entrance, how we didn't know? Moon goddess please help us find a way to enter the cave, I prayed internally. We were in the middle of fighting strigoi when I bumped into a big boulder beside the cave.

A minute later we could hear the sound of something opening, the cave gate opened allowing us an opportunity to enter. Quickly finishing off the strigoi in front of me I told everyone. We hurried inside making sure the strigoi would not come inside with us.

Thanks to the moon goddess we were inside now, the cave seemed even bigger from the inside. It is dark around but with our ability to see in the dark, it wasn't a problem. It felt like entering the underpass, we could see the light at the end of it.

As soon as we neared the end, I could sense my parents. Granny told me she could feel her family here as well. The place was well-lit and seemed like a living room with furniture. There was a lone door at one side of the room. Maybe it was the way to special cells.

We walked ahead cautiously, the room still had the scent of my two uncles. That only means they were here a few hours ago. We proceeded further to the door and opening it quickly, we could see a corridor full of silver cells ahead. We moved ahead in unison. There were stairs to go out.

This must be the way to enter these chambers from the kingdom. I could sense five people in the cells at the end of the corridor. It must be Blair’s and my family's.

“Guys we need to hurry up I can sense five people at the end of this corridor. We need to get them out before my uncles arrive here. I insisted.”

“Sure, let’s get going. We will have to check their condition as well. Mason suggested.”

We moved ahead quickly, reaching the corridor's end without making a sound. There they were the last five cells have our family. Each of them was in different cells. The cells were locked from the outside we need to find the keys to retrieve them. We immediately started searching for the keys around us.

All five members were in a half-conscious state, to make it worse they seem to have a lot of wounds as well. Tracing the uncle's scent, we searched around the room, thinking of a place where they could hide the keys. While searching I found a shelf in the far corner of the room. My gut feeling told me that the key was located there.

I searched the shelf not missing a spot. As soon as my hand touched the hardwood at the back, the ply opened revealing a small frame with a bunch of keys. I grabbed the keys closing the ply of the rack.

“I got the keys, I told others through our mind link.”

“That’s great, we can get our family out of here now. Blair proposed happily.”

She is happy to see her parents and grandpa after so many years. I am overjoyed as well, I am going to meet my parents for the first time in 18 years. I don't know if they will recognize me or not. But, I hope they will.

We hurried to the cells to unlock them with the keys in hand. I looked at the lock and key pattern to find the key for each locked cell. We were successful in our work, now it was time to retrieve them from the cells.

The first person we helped out of the cell was Bliar’s grandpa. Granny was happy to see her husband after so much time. He might have recognized granny’s scent.

“Is that you Silvia? He asked trying to get back to a conscious state.”

“Yes, it's me, Carlo. We are here to get you all out of this place. She told him undoing the handcuffs and chains on him.”

He had been bruised from the chains and tortured by my uncles. We took him out followed by Blair’s parents. At last, it was time to take my parents out of this hell hole. I was instantly nervous in anticipation of meeting them.

My palms were sweaty as I got inside my dad’s cell while Mason was retrieving my mother. Mom and dad had fresh wounds, it will be bad if we have to face the strigoi once again. Fresh wounds and blood will attract many of them. All of us hurt our palms while taking off the silver chains and opening the cells. We decided to carry them on our backs and hurry toward the way we came from.

Suddenly there we were on high alert. I could feel my uncles were here. We hurried toward the way we came but, couldn’t find the way out as the door was shut as soon as we got inside. I felt them getting near us, I was getting anxious so were my friends. We were at the end of the living room.

I moved around looking to find a switch or something to light the way. We have to find a way to open the door again. They were almost in the living room. Each one of us was panicking inside. How do we get out of this situation?

They were closing in on us every second. We saw them open the door to the living room. As soon as they saw us their anger rose. We could feel it in the air as it became tense.

“Stop, King Arnold commanded us.”

My friends were forced to halt but, it hadn’t affected Mason and me. He was trying to take us under an alpha command. I mustered up the courage to give him a command as I knew he wouldn’t be able to disobey it.

I saw King Arnold and his cousin smirk they were definitely up to no good that I am completely sure of. He pressed a switch near the wall suddenly there were a lot of arrows shot our way. Mason and I rushed to save our friends as the command have rendered them helpless.

They didn’t stop at that, the next second the walls of the cave had suddenly turned spiky and were closing in on us. We managed before with our reflexes but, first, I need to take others out of his command.

“Stop moving you two, I commanded King Arnold and his cousin Ethan.”

They came to halt but, the walls were still closing in we didn’t have much time. It is either get crushed here or get out of this cave and face the strigoi outside waiting for us. We were trapped from both sides with no end in view.

Others were able to move now, we have to find a way to open this cave gate. We didn’t have much choice left, from the corner of my eye I saw something like a button. If it is indeed a button we can be out of here. We have to risk it. Spiky walls are too close to our skin and we don’t have any time to think about it.

We would rather fight the strigoi again than be crushed here. I pressed the button without a second thought, I just hope this is the right one to open the door. We were anxiously waiting for the door to open. Holding our family supportingly on our backs getting ready to face the situation.
