Chapter 62: 62
Nova's POV
In the morning, sunlight filtered through the leaves and gently touched my face. After finishing breakfast, I decided to take a walk in the castle's backyard. The fresh air felt soothing, especially after a heavy night. My feelings were still mixed after everything that had happened between Diego and me.
I walked slowly, savoring each step I took. On one hand, there was a sense of hope. I felt a little closeness with Diego, although our relationship still felt fragile. On the other hand, there was anxiety about what would happen next.
Every leaf rustling in the wind reminded me of the tension that filled the previous night. I tried to recall the good moments between us, but the shadows of our conflicts kept haunting my mind.
In the distance, I saw Diego standing, his gaze vacant, as if he were observing something far ahead. My heart raced. I wanted to approach him, but doubt held me back. Was I brave enough to talk to him after everything that had happened?
My steps were light as I followed the path lined with rose bushes. The fragrant aroma of wet soil and flowers calmed me a little, until a voice from a more hidden part of the garden caught my attention. The voice sounded low and full of emotion, creating a tense atmosphere in the air.
Curious, I approached cautiously, trying not to disturb them. From behind the pine trees, I saw Diego and Daniel engaged in a serious conversation. Their faces looked tense, reflecting deep uncertainty and conflict.
This moment made me feel alienated, but also increasingly eager to be involved. I knew their relationship was complicated and filled with pressure. On one hand, there was hope for change, but on the other, fear of a greater rift.
I held my breath and stepped closer, hiding behind a tree. Through the gaps in the leaves, I saw a tall man with a unfamiliar face speaking seriously with someone. The man looked young, with sharp and defined features. Next to him stood a suspicious-looking man, dressed in dark clothes with a face I didn’t recognize.
Their words were clear as the wind carried them to me. Their voices created a tense atmosphere, and I felt my heart race. Each phrase spoken was full of meaning I couldn’t fully grasp, but it was clear something important was being discussed.
The tall man appeared to be trying to convince his opponent, his gestures showing tension. Meanwhile, the man in dark clothing merely nodded, but his expression suggested he was not entirely in agreement.
I tried to remain calm, but my curiosity was burning more intensely.
What were they talking about?
How could this affect the situation around me?
Everything felt increasingly urgent, and I knew I had to listen more closely.
“We’ll do it tonight,” said the foreign man.
The man I recognized as his counterpart nodded. “You know what to do. Make sure the main forces are infiltrated from the north. The security there is weak.”
I was shocked to hear their words. An attack? My heart raced as my mind raced to comprehend the situation. The foreign man seemed so confident, as if his plan was well-prepared and nothing could stop him.
“Make sure the main forces are infiltrated from the north. The security there is weak,” said the man in dark clothing firmly. His face showed tension, but his willingness to be involved in this plan was clear.
“Don’t worry. My father is too busy watching Diego. They won’t suspect a thing,” the foreign man continued. His words filled me with fear. This plan was not only dangerous, but could be fatal for everyone in the castle.
“Once the castle is in chaos, I’ll be the hero... and nothing will stop me from becoming the alpha.” That voice echoed in my mind, adding to my anxiety and anger.
Those words sent chills down my spine. Who was he? Was he... Daniel? Diego's half-brother who had been mentioned? Anxiety clouded my thoughts.
I slowly backed away, intending to leave and inform someone, but unfortunately, my foot stumbled over a tree root. A small stone I stepped on was dislodged and fell, hitting a branch and creating a loud noise.
Both men immediately turned toward me. “Who’s there?!” Daniel shouted sharply.
As I tried to escape, my steps faltered. Daniel was quicker. In an instant, he stood in front of me, his gaze piercing. I felt the tension in the air, and my heart raced.
His gaze dropped to my now rounded belly. Panic overwhelmed me. I knew I had to explain, but the words felt trapped in my throat. In this situation, all my fear and confusion coalesced into one.
Daniel’s words hung in the air, creating a tension that made it hard to breathe.
“Are you Diego’s wife?” he asked again, his voice now filled with confusion and disbelief.
I just stared at him, unable to hide the fear welling in my throat. I didn’t know what he would do, but one thing I understood clearly: I was in danger.
Just as I began to back away, trembling in front of Daniel, the sound of quick footsteps echoed from the main path of the garden. The distinctive scent of Diego wafted through the air before his figure emerged from behind the tall bushes. My heart raced at the sight of him.
Diego stood tall, his face sharp and filled with anger. His gaze was immediately fixed on Daniel, as if he wanted to pounce on him right then.
“What are you doing here with my wife?” Diego’s voice was low but laced with threat.
Daniel narrowed his eyes and slipped both hands into his coat pockets. “I was just chatting. Nothing strange, calm down.”
“Don’t come near her again,” Diego said firmly, stepping closer and positioning himself between me and Daniel, as if to shield me. “If you touch Nova, even with malicious intent, I won’t hesitate to get rid of you.”
Daniel's expression turned cold, but he didn’t respond. “You’re too possessive, Diego. Not everyone is so desperate for a weak woman.”
I gritted my teeth upon hearing that, but Diego stepped forward, now only inches away from Daniel. “One more degrading word from you, and I’ll make sure you can’t speak for a very long time,” Diego hissed, his voice firm and threatening.
The tension thickened between them, as if the air had stopped moving. I felt my heart race, fearful of the possibilities that could unfold. Daniel seemed unfazed, his cynical smile still etched on his face.
“I’m not looking for trouble. Not yet,” Daniel replied, taking a slight step back, but his eyes remained challenging.
