Chapter 89: Trust Your Decisions

I was sitting on my couch. I was breathing quite heavily, even now. I didn’t know how I would have fought him if my movement wasn’t perfect. I should have been prepared but I wasn’t. This was so risky.
But one thing I should be happy about was that he was out of the way. We only have two enemies now.
The doorbell rang and I got up. I am not that scared anymore, it can’t be Asher.
I opened the door and was shocked to see Selena and Nick. “hey, come in” I said and they came in.
“Sit down”
“Uh, we just have to talk”
“Yeah, so sit down” I repeated politely and they sat down. This is definitely about Asher.
“Actually, I know what Asher did and it is… embarrassing… humiliating…” Selena started.
“But you want me to take my complaint back” I completed.
She looked at me and sighed. “Not want, uh, I wanna request. But I understand… if you don’t want to…”
“Uh…” I sighed. “Did you talk to him?”
“Yeah, actually, he is… ashamed and sorry, but… of course you don’t believe him…”
“Do you?” I asked.
“Uh… actually, yeah…”
“Well…”
“You can take your time” she looked down. “I know this is so hard because you don’t wanna hurt my feelings but you can’t let him go easily after everything… so you can take your time”
“Yeah, I will… I will tell in an hour”
“Oh that would be great!”
“Hm…”
She sighed. “I am sorry from his side” she whispered, her voice breaking.
“It is okay, Selena. It is not your mistake”
“Hm-mh…” Nick wiped her tears.
“Thanks Alicia… for considering it”
“I think there are many chances that I will take the complaint back. I will just have to think”
Her smile widened. “I will be so glad”
I nodded and they both left the house.
Did he really change? To be honest, I think if Selena says, he has changed. I mean, of course she believes that he changed.
But should I? Should I really let him go?
I called Alistair.
“Hey”
“Hey, Alistair”
“Is everything okay?” he asked me.
“Yeah, fine. Uh… Asher… he came by”
“What!? Oh Shit. Are you really okay? I sent some people to your house but they will reach by tomorrow”
“They don’t need to come. He is in jail… and I am okay”
“Woah, that’s good. That is so good”
“Yeah… but I wanted to ask something…”
“Hm?”
“I, uh… Selena… she asked me to think about taking the complaint back…”
“She knows what he did to you. Still?”
“Look, uh… can I meet him once?”
“Meet him?” his voice was confused.
“Yeah… like see… if he changed… because Selena told me that he has realised his mistakes…”
I heard a sigh. “Are you sure this is safe?”
“Yeah…”
“Okay, we will go together--”
“No need, Alistair. You have so much to do and even your business. I will manage”
“Okay, if you say so”
I smiled at myself. “Thanks, Alistair”
“Stay safe. Call me when you return”
“And if…” I spoke. “If I feel he has changed, then can I take my complaint back?”
He stayed quiet for some moments. “Yeah, I trust your decision”
“Thanks, Alistair. You are the best!”
He laughed. “Sure. My brave girl, I am with you in everything you do, as long as it is safe”
“I am lucky to have you, Alistair”
“Me too”
“Ah… bye then”
“Bye, take care”
“You too”
The call ended and I smiled. My decision to spend my life with him is not wrong at all. For the first time I feel like I have found someone, who I think I don’t need to run from-- rather, he is someone to run to.
I decided to visit Asher. I left a message on Selena's phone.
I went to the Jail and then inside to his cell. He was sitting with his eyes closed, I myself told the officers to not tell him I am here. I wanted to see his reaction rather than preparing him for some act.
“Hey”
“Hey!”
“Asher!!” I almost yelled and he opened his eyes with a thud. “Alicia? Oh God, I am hallucinating…”
“You’re not. I am here”
He rubbed his eyes and looked at me. “How? Why?”
“Asher… I just wanna know…”
“Hm?”
“Have you realised your mistake?”
He looked down. “See, you won’t believe anyway”
“I wouldn’t be here if I wouldn’t believe”
He looked at me and sighed. “Then yes. I have changed. I know what I did was wrong and that I shouldn’t have done even a single thing of all those but I did, so it is good and justified if I get punished”
I looked at him and sighed. “I know why you did this. It was my mistake to lead you on the bad path. So, I, I can’t be the one to punish you because I should be punished too. What you did was just justifying my wrong doings”
“You mean…”
“Yeah, I will take my complaint back. But you should promise me that you won’t hurt Selena…”
“Never. I won’t ever hurt anyone”
I smiled. “Okay, Asher. You’ll be out soon”
