Chapter 73 Figured It Out
The Hart family's gathering invited many celebrities besides Raymond. Raymond introduced them to Sophia after leading her into the banquet hall.
After a brief chat, everyone took their seats, and the dinner began.
Even though the Hart family's gathering was small, it was no less grand than any palace banquet. Everyone sat on both sides of the rectangular table, and hundreds of servants carried various dishes in.
Each dish was made with the most precious ingredients and prepared by top chefs, and it was unavailable in any restaurant outside.
While eating, everyone chatted mainly about business matters and the economic development in the coming years.
Sophia sat next to Raymond, listening attentively and quietly eating. She hardly spoke.
But Quinn was different. She sat opposite Sophia and Raymond, her gaze fixed on Raymond. Every time Raymond finished speaking, she would have something to say.
After all, Quinn was Donovan and Holland's daughter; her perspective was high, and many people tried to please her. So, every time Quinn finished speaking, she would always receive a round of compliments.
"Mrs. Johnson, what do you usually do? Why haven't you spoken?" Quinn smiled and asked Sophia, who had been bowing her head and eating.
"Are you asking me?" Sophia picked up a napkin and elegantly wiped the corners of her mouth. "I am an employee at a company."
"Mrs. Johnson, you're too modest. Your appearance and temperament cannot be that of an ordinary employee!" A nearby CEO looked at Sophia and smiled.
Sophia smiled without saying anything.
"Mrs. Johnson, let's have a drink." Quinn raised her glass to Sophia.
Sophia nodded and also raised her glass in front of her.
"Your illness hasn't fully recovered. Don't drink alcohol; have some juice instead." Just as Sophia raised her glass, Raymond took it away and handed her a glass of pomegranate juice.
Sophia looked at him without saying anything.
"Mr. Johnson, you really don't have any sincerity," Quinn pouted and coquettishly complained to Raymond.
"Well, I'll drink on behalf of my wife then," Raymond said and lifted Sophia's glass towards Quinn. He tilted his head back and finished the drink in one gulp.
"Mrs. Johnson is so lucky to have a caring and considerate husband like Mr. Johnson. It's truly enviable," Holland said, looking at them, and smiled at Sophia.
"Thank you for the compliment, Mrs. Hart. Mr. Hart and Mrs. Hart are the ones who truly deserve admiration and respect as a couple," Sophia said, elegantly holding her glass of juice. "I wish Mr. Hart and Mrs. Hart all the best."
Donovan's face lit up with a sincere smile as he looked at Sophia. He raised his glass and said, "Thank you."
After he finished speaking, he also tilted his head back and finished his drink.
Donovan, the head of Misty Harbor's first family, was so enthusiastic towards Raymond and Sophia, so naturally, others wouldn't neglect them either.
However, Raymond mentioned that Sophia was still recovering from a cold and couldn't drink, so everyone insisted that Raymond should drink instead.
After dinner, they moved to another location. The men sat together discussing business, while the women enjoyed fruits and coffee, talking about jewelry or beauty exhibitions.
Sophia wasn't interested in any of this, so she went for a walk in the rooftop garden while pretending to use the restroom.
Standing in this luxurious building, Sophia took in the night view of Misty Harbor and admired the precious flowers in the rooftop garden.
"Doesn't Mrs. Johnson like to chat with everyone?" Quinn's arrogant voice came from behind just as Sophia leaned on the railing and lost herself in the night view of Misty Harbor.
It was Quinn.
She had been hearing her voice all night, always sounding superior yet delicate, and Sophia couldn't quite figure her out.
Sophia turned around and leaned back on the railing with her hands spread behind her. She looked at Quinn, smiled lightly, and said, "It's not that I don't like it, but I just can't find anything to talk about with them."
"Yes, they're all just a group of old people," Quinn sneered and agreed.
Among all the women tonight, except for Sophia and her, the others were all over 40 years old.
After all, no one would bring their lovers to such an occasion.
Sophia looked at her but didn't say anything.
"Mrs. Johnson didn't seem to care much about Mr. Johnson." Quinn approached and went straight to the point when she saw Sophia remain silent.
Sophia glanced at her and then turned around to look at the dazzling night sky. She raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why do you say that?"
"While other wives are trying to please everyone, you came here alone." Quinn also raised an eyebrow.
"No." Sophia looked at her and smiled. "Mr. Johnson likes me being quiet like this."
Quinn stared at Sophia and found her increasingly incomprehensible.
But it didn't matter.
She raised an eyebrow again and said directly, "Mr. Johnson is the most charming man I have ever met. I fell in love with him at first sight."
Sophia laughed and said calmly, "I can tell."
