Chapter 399 Hostility
Isabella had just arrived in Silvermist City and couldn't think of anyone who'd be looking for her.
Then it hit her, and she quickly checked her phone. Sure enough, there was a message from Leroy.
She hadn't seen it, so Leroy must've thought she was ignoring him and decided to come to the hotel.
"Do you want to see him?" Aaron asked.
"Yeah, of course. I'll go out right now." Isabella said, standing up and heading towards the door.
Michael had also seen Leroy's message and grabbed Isabella's hand, saying, "We've already connected with Aria. We don't need to see him."
"Let's meet him," Isabella insisted. "The more connections we have, the better. He came to find me; maybe it's something important."
"Fine, let him come up. I'll meet him with you," Michael said after a moment of thought.
Isabella nodded. Since Michael already knew about Milan's wife, there was no need to keep her conversation with Leroy secret. If Michael wanted to join, then so be it.
Michael instructed Aaron to call the front desk and let Leroy come up.
"Sorry to bother you," Leroy apologized as soon as he arrived.
Isabella smiled and said, "I should be the one apologizing. I didn't see your message, not intentionally ignoring you."
Leroy gave a bitter smile and said with a hint of resentment, "I thought you didn't want to talk to me."
"Dr. Runyon, what brings you here to see my wife?" Michael interrupted their conversation, feeling uncomfortable, and asked coldly.
Leroy looked at Isabella sincerely and said, "Ms. Taylor, I came to ask if you could visit Calista. She's been discharged from the hospital and has been wanting to go to Silvercrest City to see you. Now that you're in Silvermist City, I hope you can meet her."
"No," Michael refused before Isabella could respond. "Isabella has no obligation to meet her."
"Ms. Taylor, you promised me that if I helped you with that matter, you would meet Calista again," Leroy said, ignoring Michael and looking at Isabella.
Isabella nodded, "Yes, I did promise you. Don't worry, Dr. Runyon, I will keep my word. But we have other plans today. Can we arrange to meet tomorrow?"
"Of course," Leroy said happily. "As long as you're willing to meet her, anytime is fine."
"Isabella, why did you agree?" Michael pulled Isabella's hand and asked in a low voice, frowning.
Isabella explained softly, "Last time I asked Dr. Runyon to help by showing your photo to Mrs. Runyon to see her reaction. In return, I promised him that I would help him when he needed it. Michael, we need to keep our promises."
"Alright, since he helped you once, you can help him once. Dr. Runyon, after this, you and Isabella will owe each other nothing and won't need to interact anymore." Michael reluctantly agreed but warned Leroy.
Leroy looked at Michael with confusion and asked, "Mr. Johnson, why don't you want me to interact with Ms. Taylor? Are you jealous?"
Michael scoffed, "Aren't you a psychologist? How can you be so blunt?"
"Because I know someone as strong-minded as you wouldn't feel embarrassed or ashamed by such words. It's better to be straightforward," Leroy replied calmly.
"Dr. Runyon, you misunderstood. Michael isn't jealous. I have nothing to do with you." Isabella quickly explained.
Leroy looked at Michael and said, "Mr. Johnson, you know best whether I misunderstood."
Michael clenched his fists. Leroy really didn't leave any room for others, but he still defended himself, "Dr. Runyon, you did misunderstand. You're not worth my jealousy. With me around, Isabella won't fall for anyone else. I don't like her interacting with you because you're Milan's son."
"I see," Leroy nodded. "I understand. After Ms. Taylor meets Calista, I'll try not to appear in front of you. But Mr. Johnson, if you dislike the Runyon family so much, you should leave Silvermist City. This is the Runyon family's territory. Although Silvermist City is large, the more you want to avoid someone, the more likely you are to run into them. The best way is to stay away."
"I'll consider your suggestion, but we can't leave Silvermist City yet. Dr. Runyon, just keep yourself away from us." Michael retorted.
"I'll call you tomorrow to arrange the meeting." Leroy said to Isabella, standing up.
Isabella nodded and asked Aaron to escort Leroy out.
"Isabella, after tomorrow, don't meet him again." Michael said, holding Isabella's hand as soon as Leroy left.
Isabella held his hand back and persuaded, "Michael, I don't think you need to be so against Leroy. We might need his help in the future."
"No need. I'll find another way if there's a problem," Michael said stubbornly.
"Is it because of his father that you dislike him so much?" Isabella hugged him and asked.
Michael didn't respond. Maybe that was part of it, but he also didn't like Leroy. He felt Leroy's gaze towards Isabella wasn't pure, but he didn't know how to express it.
"I understand your feelings. Although I haven't met Milan, I think Leroy is different from his father. He seems like a good person."
"Just because he's a good person, I should like him? There are plenty of good people in the world. Should I like every one of them?" Michael retorted.
Isabella sighed and hugged Michael tightly, not saying anything more. It was foolish to upset her husband over someone irrelevant.
Michael quickly realized his mistake and apologized, "I'm sorry, Isabella. I shouldn't argue with you over someone irrelevant. Let's focus on what to say to Aria tonight."
