Chapter 8: Chapter 8

SERAPHINA

I didn't know what came over me to challenge him that way but I knew that I was on my way to disaster.

I just didn't know how fast it was going to take me to arrive there.

Lucian had been completely incognito since our last discussion and I could feel myself starting to miss him.

No matter what I told myself I found myself doing the opposite and that irritated me more than anything else in the world.

It gave him the leverage to do whatever he wanted and believed that I was always going to be by his side cheering him on

Mother had called me a few times but I refused to pick up her call because I felt very guilty about the things that I did in her absence and she was too bubbly for my liking.

"Why have you been very moody? Alpha Lucian says that we should give you anything that you want." Layla asked, looking at me like she was panicking.

She just didn't understand what the hell was going on with me and I didn't want to also push her into becoming my friend or knowing my deepest secrets.

I stopped moving and instead just focused on her. If he wanted me to come close to the point of getting someone to become mine then I was going to indulge him.

I knew that he was going to be the one who would regret it at last and that motivated me to go on with my work.

I had already gotten to a point where I lived according to my dictates and honestly speaking there was nothing that was going to stop me from doing whatever I wanted.

The only thing that was going to stop me was the fact that I was considering a few things and I was hoping that I would be able to vanish before my mother ever found out what was truly going on.

"I hate parties and I don't really think that I'm in the mood to start thinking about people or doing certain things that are going to put me at a disadvantage. I just want to be left alone." I confided in her.

Layla looked at me like I had grown two heads and she just didn't understand why I was speaking this language.

"I know that I shouldn't be panicking and that's final but do you really understand the gravity of what you want? Nobody around here is allowed to leave without getting permission from the alpha. I think you have misconstrued everything."

Her eyes remained white as she gave me the details.

"Alpha Lucian never goes back on his word and that is one of the reasons why he is one of the most respected around here. Nobody really knows what exactly he has been going through but we know that he is up to the task and whenever he gives an order...we make sure to follow it to the last letter."

That sent shivers down my spine but I refused to allow myself to be intimidated by him.

He was just a man who made decisions and not someone who decided that everybody would take the same decisions that he wanted because then we would only be nothing but puppets.

"You should think that someone who wants everyone to have a free and well playing field would do something to make it easier for us." I said derisively.

There was no need for me to talk smack about him but I was very tired of hiding and I needed an outlet to vent.

"The Luna is even more wonderful than anyone could have imagined given the circumstances of their marriage and that goes to show us that many people end up being the opposite of the things that you think they can't."

She whispered, stroking my hair fondly.

There were a lot of things that I wanted to say to her but most importantly I just decided not to speak and focus my attention on something that was more important to me.

I needed to get someone on my side just to erase the feel of Lucian's hands on mine.

If he thought that I was going to keep whining about the fact that he wanted to keep me hidden even if that was the right thing to do I was never going to stoop so low.

"I hate wearing makeup not because of anything but because it itches my face." I said cotton her off as soon as she opened the makeup kit.

Her eyes widened even more dramatically and I rolled my eyes at her actions.

She was the one person who always came up with the slightest idea and made me feel like I was overreacting but I already knew what I wanted and I was not going to go back on my word.

I wasn't trying to impress anybody and even if I was it wasn't this man in question.

It was probably someone else.

"Everyone is going to be heavily made up. The alpha's friends are very particular about how they want people around them to look. I don't want you to feel slightly weird when they seem to prefer some others over you." She looked so sympathetic but I didn't even get concerned at all.

I was my own person and I could do whatever I believed was right for myself and not what somebody believed to be true.

"You shouldn't worry about me. You should be worried about people who do not have anything to do besides cater to men's pleasure." I hissed.

Silence engulfed me and I made a mistake of turning, the moment I did, my eyes came in contact with Layla.

"We are one of the strongest packs. Alpha Lucian trains everyone and doesn't subjugate us. He makes us even look better in the eyes of his friends than anybody else in the world. Do you have any problem with Alpha Lucian?"

She cocked her head to the side.
