Chapter 25 Chapter 25
Chapter 25 Chapter 25
LUCIAN
I stood still at the weak threat. It wouldn't take me anything to overpower Mason but what good would that be?"
"Really now? Is this how you want to play this game?" I asked.
"In that case.."
I flung my knife at him.
He had summoned the guts to kill one of the people that remained loyal over the years!
Seraphina jumped out of his hold as soon as Mason crumbled to the ground, grunting like an over fed pig.
"You're not going to get away with this!" He vowed.
It was quite a shame that for someone who had a lot of bravado, he wasn't able to put up much of a fight before he was easily defeated.
"Get on your knees Mason. It's over." I declared before shooting him in the leg.
Seraphina jumped into my arms right after, "thank you for coming to save me."
I dragged in a ragged breath. "It's nothing."
"Thank you so much." She whimpered in my arms.
I felt my wolf awakening at the mere thought that his mate was undergoing such pain.
Together we headed out of that cave, my eyes focusing on hers with so much wonder.
She didn't look like someone who needed to be stressed and honestly I've had like making it pretty easy for her.
She lay in the backseat of my car.
Together we headed towards the front of the house.
"My poor baby!" Isolde exclaimed as soon as we arrived and I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the excessive display of love.
I didn't blame her because I would also be paranoid if I had a child that was missing for some time, especially under my care.
Both of them reunited as I went into my study. I needed to study a few patterns and why this had kept repeating now that she came in here.
I have been receiving a lot of death threats but I had not paid much attention to it because I believe that it was one of those things.
Joe had also suffered losing his life in the process so I needed to do an in-depth analysis of what might have gone wrong and how I could be of help to put everything back in order.
A few hours into midnight I will always begin to get restless, so I headed towards the drink cabinet to pour myself one.
I had to do something that was going to make this even a bit reasonable because nothing was making sense right now.
I needed to get to the bottom of the issue before I started losing my mind.
Something was going on but I just didn't understand and if I was being honest with myself I needed to find a solution before it was too late.
Anything outside of that I was going to be blindsided.
I noticed a movement from the corner of my eye in the garden.
I moved towards the window.
My lights were off so nobody could see me from without and this was my perfect opportunity to finally see if I had a mole inside.
Another person jumped in and I already understood what was going on.
They were trying to infiltrate the house.
My question was where were the guards?
They were probably sleeping through it all. My instinct drew me to Seraphina's room.
She had to be the reason why there was the sudden attack and I needed to get to know why.
I didn't also question the fact that she had also known Mason and wasn't surprised to see him.
My next question was how many things did she know and what baggage was she bringing? Her mother had not discussed anything.
Without waiting to think more I headed towards her room, and twisted the door knob.
I need no formality if she was going to be in danger.
She wasn't anywhere in the room but her scent still lingered, telling me that it had not been long that she had left.
Where the hell did she go?
I turned just right in time to see her walking in. "Hey... I went to grab some water." She raised the bottle as though she didn't want to offend me
This wasn't an issue of offense, instead it was an issue of making sure that she was completely safe and that there was nothing that was going to be wrong with her in the long run.
I needed her to be on top of her game.
"I wasn't accusing you of doing anything wrong." I explained.
I was probably the worst person to start explaining things to people but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I had already figured out a way that I wanted to make this work and if it was going to go by my dictates I need to be fast about it.
"Is anything the matter? Is there a way I can help?"
"I need you to stay inside. I know that people have tried to jump in. My gut tells me that you are the target and I don't want that to happen. So you're going to humor me by just remaining here. I'm going to put in my number. You can always call me if there's a problem. Do not go after your mother. She'll be fine."
I saw the protest in her eyes before she even opened her mouth but I didn't care.
I cared more about her feelings and how she was supposed to be taken care of instead of her mother and I wasn't even remorseful about that.
I could pretend for all I cared about not caring about the bond but I knew that it was ever present and it was going to make me devastated if anything happened to her.
"Is it something that I can help out with? Am I the reason why these people are here?" She whispered, holding her breath.
"Possibly. But we have to keep our fingers crossed." I ended the conversation and walked away.
