Chapter 18: Chapter 18
SERAPHINA
I watched my mother sneak out of the house just like she had always been familiar with doing but before now I did not know where she was going.
Lucian had avoided me like a plague and I had also did the same refusing to allow myself be dragged into something else that was going to leave a bitter taste in my mouth
Layla knocked on the door and I finally opened up but after sometime I realized that she had something on her hands looking like she was just hoping to get this over and done with and honestly speaking I was a little bit exhausted and I just didn't want to see anybody at that point.
All I wanted to do right now was to relax for some time and finally get the hell out of this place before it was too late.
Too many things were disturbing me at the same time and I just wanted to be free but I guess it was a luxury that I was not going to enjoy like that.
I have to pay for it through my nose.
"I'm so sorry to disturb you but the alpha says that I should bring this up for you. He says that you will be needing it." She beamed.
I didn't know what Lucian was up to but this was even going to put me in the public eye more than before and with someone like Layla who was a chit chat.
She was bound to tell somebody that was going to tell somebody that was going to tell another person and then my mother was going to learn of the fact that he was giving me some special treatment around here.
"But I didn't ask for this." I pretended not to understand what he was trying to do.
If this was his effort at giving me some peace offering then he didn't need to worry about it.
All I wanted to do right now was to prop my head on my headboard and read some wonderful novel that captured my fantasy.
"I actually pitched the idea to him and he agreed. I told him that you were a little bit under the weather and you would be needing some rejuvenation which he didn't argue about."
Do I really need to talk about the fact that I just wanted to be alone and that she was not going to give me that opportunity?
She probably thought that she knew what was best for me and honestly speaking I was already tired of constant babysitting.
I put my leg on the floor and then looked her straight in the eyes.."as much as I appreciate all of this I think that it's getting too much and I can't even accept any of these things anymore. You know why?"
She shook her head."because I don't want to be walking around like some child on eggshells. just let me live around here. I'm not sure that's too much for me to ask."
It was a rhetorical question and I would roll my eyes if she gave me an answer.
"I'm so sorry about being too forward I would just return it and tell him that you are not interested in it." She hurried to the door.
Now she was on her way to make me feel like a bad person and honestly speaking I just hated it when she didn't know how to take no for an answer.
"Layla, you don't need to act this way when things do not go according to plan. Instead you need to focus on what you should do to make it right. I'm not saying this because I hate you or any of that stuff."
"I'm only saying this because I want you to also be free instead of always catering to every one of my needs. It gets tiring at some point." I almost pulled my own hair out.
If she didn't understand what I was talking about and there was no need for me to continue with the rhyme scheme or else it was going to bore her to death.
I noticed that she was somebody who needed to be always active so that she could feel needed and useful.
It probably came with the position of being an Omega for so long that you could not even comprehend that there were other aspects of life that you shouldn't tamper with.
"I understand how you're feeling honestly, yet I don't want unnecessary attention. I'm not a child do you know?"
That seems to do the trick because she halted her steps and walked towards me looking all apologetic which even annoyed me further.
"I'm so sorry forever trying to doubt you or do anything that would annoy you. I'm completely baffled by the way I have taken a liking to you and that's why I want to...."
I raised my finger, silencing her instantly.
I understood the need for validation but that didn't mean that she should continue in that because it was just going to piss me off every time she did it.
"Now that you know your problem I think it's time for you to work on it and stop giving excuses. I also want you to limit the way you talk to people. Not everything deserves to be said even if you know a lot about it." I told her quietly.
It was going to start off as harmless until she would go peddling rumors in such a way that I would not be able to defend myself, especially in a place where I was probably being scrutinized under some very crazy watch skills.
"Does it mean that I shouldn't tell you what people have been saying about you behind your back?"
It was a stupid question for her to ask but I was going to indulge her anyway. That was the only way to get my ideas passed into her head.
"You need to be very careful about the people that you talk to because sometimes these people always end up acting crazy. I don't want you to fall victim to that. You have to be quiet even when you know what to say." I reiterated
Soon it was dinner and this time I decided to wear a very magnificent dress.
If we couldn't have each other I could always do something to catch his attention and bring him back to know what he was missing.
It was too Petty of me to do that and I knew it but at the same time it was not going to stop me from doing what I considered very interesting.
I was going to make sure that he realized that he fumbled big time. I was not here to Scott begging for that.
My mother was seated on his right hand while I occupied the other seat.
Lucian's eyes remained focused on mine, but I refused to move an inch.
Instead I just fixed my gaze on him and started thinking about something else entirely.
It was going to take a long time but at the end of the day I would be able to stretch myself to be able to get it done and dusted before it was too late.
"Look what we have here, looking so wonderful and amazing. Darling, have I told you how beautiful you look?" My mom gushed over me.
I found myself blushing at her effusive compliments.
Lucian's eyes ran throughout my entire length and I could see the thoughts swirling in his head.
He was thinking of undressing me. There was nothing he could say that would make me not believe what his eyes were talking about.
It was a pity that he decided to pass up on me and remain faithful to his marriage which I wasn't trying to crush anyway.
"Mom please do not speak so highly of me I know you're obligated too but..."
My mother waved her hands like she could not believe her ears.
“Nonsense. I always brag to anybody that cares to listen that I have a wonderful daughter and people have always ascribed to the fact that you are one of a kind!"
The tension at the table could be cut with a knife and I wasn't even kidding when I said that Lucian looked like he was having a hard time enjoying his meal.
I just wanted to have some time to myself. My mother was going to take the attention off me and put it on herself just like she always loved to do.
There are times I felt overwhelmed by her display and I also felt that Lucian shared the same sentiment with me because he just rolled his eyes.
Dinner was inviting and the aromas filled the air but I still inhaled his cologne from where I sat.
I wouldn't mind a human meal tonight if I could get one.
That would only happen if I dragged him to the deserts and had my wicked way with him or else I was going to lose my mind.
"Are you not interested in risotto?" My mother tapped my table.
"Hmm?"
"Lucian makes the best ones and I think one of these days he should make one for you. It's going to change your impression of him no doubt. But I don't want you to steal my husband away from me." My mother laughed.
The table fell silent.
It was at this moment she knew that she had messed up, I kept my eyes focused on hers but I could still see Lucian from the corner of my eyes glaring at her.
"I'm sure that she doesn't have the intention to do that. She is such a calm girl and she cannot even hurt a fly." My mother quickly diffuse the tension
Only she knew when I was capable of doing she wouldn't be vouching for me this much but at the same time I was ready to also go and test her theory out to see if I will be able to steal her man.
"She is not one of those girls you told me that she can be trusted with, so why are you suggesting that she might steal me away from you?" Lucian asked as he stick his fork into the flesh
If my mother had any sense you would have realized that we were talking in parables but she didn't and she believed that we didn't have anything in common and I wanted it to remain that way.
My mother had a way of always finding things out even when I was little and I was devastated if she'll be able to find this out.
"I will be going somewhere else tonight. I need to meet up with some business investors."
I coughed up at the indigestion that her lies gave to me.
How on Earth does she expect that anybody was going to believe this nonsense that she was already saying out of her mouth.
And I had a feeling that Lucian knew but he didn't want anything that was going to spill over to the next day and that was why he tolerated anything that she dumped on him.
My mother's eyes fell on me suspiciously and I knew that I had messed up. "Is anything the matter darling?"
I shook my head, digging my fork into my plate to avoid more scrutiny from her.
.
"My daughter is the most amazing person in the entire world and I would always do everything to make her happy." She beamed.
There was a hint of emotion underneath her tool which I didn't think sat well with me but there was nothing I could do to salvage it at this point so I decided to just relax.
"Goodnight," I said to both of them.
Just as I reached the foot of the stairs my mother called my name.
