Chapter Sixty-Three

Omniscient Narrative

Angela smiled warmly, expressing her support. "Love that isn't met with fear and is shared openly, it can heal the deepest wounds. The way Von speaks about you both... well, it's heartwarming. He wants to keep you close, to protect you, to love you both forever."

Feeling emboldened by their conversation, Dylan found himself wanting to share more, wanting to articulate the depth of his feelings. "With Michael, it feels light and fun. We can share laughter in the silliest ways, but with Von, it's different. It's more profound; he understands my soul, and when we are together, even silence can feel electric, I love them so much."

Angela's eyes gleamed with approval, and she nodded solemnly. "That's the beauty of finding love, the way it expresses itself differently with each person."

"Exactly." Dylan felt a sense of freedom rush through him, the need to articulate his art was a reflection of his heart. "When I'm with them, I like to paint, expressing all those bottled emotions in colors and strokes. My artwork has been a way for me to communicate what I sometimes can't say out loud."

Hilary listened intently, her expression sincere and filled with admiration. "I've always thought art could show the world how we feel in ways we can never put into words. I'm so proud of you for embracing that!"

Dylan's voice grew quieter, but there was strength in it. "It's my escape, the canvas is my haven. I pour out love, frustration, happiness, and pain. I've captured our moments; each painting feels like a story, a part of me."

"Would you show us?" Angela asked, her enthusiasm palpable. "I'd love to see what you create."

Dylan hesitated, feeling a wave of vulnerability wash over him, but the genuine excitement dancing in Angela and Hilary's eyes encouraged him. "I could... I could do that," he murmured, feeling excitement start to bloom within him.

Taking a deep breath, he added, "I have a piece that I did recently, one that represents love and acceptance. It exemplifies my journey and the people who mean the most to me."

"Then it's settled!" Hilary declared, her enthusiasm infectious. "Let's make it a gallery viewing! Your art deserves to be celebrated!"

As she spoke, Dylan felt a rush of energy surge through him. The thought of presenting his work, exposing his raw emotions and creativity, made him feel like he was stepping onto a stage. Surrounded by those who truly cared, he could no longer ignore the urge to share that piece of himself.

With Hilary and Angela cheering him on, Dylan realized that perhaps he could find solace and healing through this moment. Encouraged by their support, he rose slowly, glancing at both women before saying, "I'll be right back!" He yelled out as he darted out of the room and down the place Hilary had found him before, where he had kept his bag.

He took his bag and pulled out the sketchbook, the drawing depicted three figures intertwined in a dance of colors: a depiction of himself, Von, and Michael, each represented in hues that conveyed their personalities. Dylan had chosen soft blues and gentle greens for himself, bright yellows for Michael, and deep, rich reds for Von, creating an intricate tapestry of connection.

When he returned to the dining room, Angela and Hilary were engaged in conversation, but their voices quieted as Dylan re-entered. "Here it is," he managed, holding the sketchbook out to them, heart racing. "This is... this is my representation of us."

Angela gasped softly, her hands floating up to cover her mouth, while Hilary's eyes widened in pure joy. "Oh, Dylan! It's breathtaking!"

Dylan watched as they approached, studying the drawing that encapsulated his heart and soul. Angela leaned in closer, her expression filled with pride. "The colors are beautiful! Each hue truly captures the essence of love and connection."

"I can see the joy you pour into it," Hilary chimed in, her voice tinged with admiration. "It's as if I can feel the warmth and happiness radiating from the drawing !"

Dylan felt a wave of relief and pride wash over him, their kind words igniting a sense of belonging. "This piece means a lot to me," he said, taking a deep breath. "It represents not only my love for both Von and Michael but the journey we all share. We've created something beautiful together, despite the challenges."

"I'd love to get it framed"

Angela nodded in understanding, a sense of solidarity blooming between them. "It's beautiful, Dylan. So perfectly displayed. We've all been through our hardships, and yet love continues to flourish despite it all."

Dylan smiled softly, the comfort of their acceptance wrapping around him. "Thank you for understanding. I've always sought to create art that speaks, to capture feelings I sometimes struggle to express. This drawing is my way of asserting the joy I feel in my relationships."

"I truly believe art has power," Angela replied, her voice filled with sincerity. "It can bridge the gap between experiences and emotions. You've given your heart to create this, and it resonates deeply."

With each exchange, Dylan found himself unburdening layers of fear and sadness, building connections that blossomed like the vibrant colors on his book. He realized that even in the face of rejection from his own family, he could create a tapestry woven with kindness and acceptance, with a chosen family that celebrated him for who he was.

As they admired the drawing together, stories flowed freely. The conversation meandered through laughter, warmth, and the tight-knit bonds and understanding between the three of them.

Dylan felt a sense of safety as he chatted with the two women, two of the three women that held a special title in Von's life and a huge space in his heart.

And for the first time, he felt the acceptance he longed for, neither forgotten nor disowned, but acknowledged for the vibrant colors he brought to life, so much more than just a boy who wanted to be loved and accepted, Von's family in a span of a few hours made him feel what his own parents couldn't make him feel in all 26 years of living, he felt at home.

"Please Angela, do tell me about you, I am such a huge fan" Dylan had been dying to ask that since he first laid his eyes on her today.

"So..." the conversation continued as Angela spoke about her younger time as an upcoming artist. To which Dylan listened with full attention. He couldn't believe he was in the presence of Angela Rowland Harris

...

Dylan felt a gentle flutter in his chest at the realization that he was not simply in the presence of any regular mother; he was here with Angela Rowland Harris, a renowned artist whose work had inspired countless people and whose passion for art resonated deeply within Dylan's own heart.

After revealing his drawing, he watched as Angela stood, her eyes taking in the vibrant colors and emotional depth of his piece. The intent way she had observed his work heightened Dylan's nervous excitement. He suddenly remembered the art pieces he had seen in galleries that Angela had displayed, works that he had admired from a distance, feeling insignificant in their powerful presence. Hilary had left them a few minutes ago to go check on her kids

"Angela," he began,m, " truly, I've followed your work for years. Your use of color and texture is just... amazing! I can't believe I'm sitting here talking with you!" He couldn't hold it any longer.

Angela's eyes twinkled with mutual delight as she caught Dylan's enthusiasm. "Oh, you're too kind"

Dylan, and he leaned forward, excitement bubbling in his chest. "Your piece titled 'The whispers of the Sea' was such an eye opener, the way you captured the movement of water! It's like you can almost hear the waves crashing against the shore. The shades of blue mixed with hints of gold... it feels alive!" He paused, feeling a little silly for his exuberance, but there was something uniquely freeing about expressing his admiration. "It makes me feel like I'm standing right there, enveloped in the ocean breeze." He spoke so warmly about her work.

Angela's smile widened. "That piece is incredibly dear to me. I painted it during a particularly reflective phase in my life, drawing inspiration from a trip to the coast. The sea has always represented freedom for me."

"When I was younger I wanted to be the little mermaid" she added making Dylan laugh with her.

"You have such a way of weaving emotion into your work. I strive to create pieces that tell stories too, but your knack for imbuing nature with such vibrancy is breathtaking."

"Thank you, Dylan. As you know, Art is meant for storytelling, showing our own feelings meld with our experiences, and that forms the foundation of what we create," Angela explained, motioning for him to join her as she moved toward a small display of her works delicately framed on the wall. "Would you like to see more?"

"Oh, absolutely!" Dylan proclaimed, nearly bouncing in his seat. A warmth ran through him at the thought of connecting deeper over their shared passion.

As they approached the wall, Angela gestured to a painting that had always been one of her favorites. "This piece is called 'Dancing Leaves.' It captures that sublime moment in autumn when the leaves seem to twirl through the air, each one a different color. I wanted to evoke the joy of change and the fleeting beauty of life."

Dylan leaned in, studying every line and brushstroke. "It's incredible! The way you've portrayed light filtering through the leaves-how do you manage to translate such finesse onto the canvas? It's like I can feel the warmth of the sun just by looking at it."

Angela chuckled, her laughter melodic and genuine. "Years of practice Dylan and a little bit of intuition, I think. Finding that connection between the subject and the feelings it stirs inside you is what brings the art to life."
