Chapter 220
My door creaked open, and I lifted my head from the pillow.
"Did I disturb you, darling?" Gordon asked as he walked to my side, holding a large bouquet of flowers and a paper bag from Sweetly Treats.
"No, I wasn't sleeping." I smiled as I sat up and sniffed the air. "Is that macarons?"
"How did you smell that? I can barely perceive anything over the smell of antiseptic and bleach," he grinned, handing me the bag and giving me a gentle kiss.
"Pregnancy hormones. How did you know I've been craving it since I woke up? It's like you read my mind from miles away."
"What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't know my girl's craving by now?" He replied as I popped one of the macarons into my mouth. My tongue exploded at the delicious taste, and I moaned, wriggling my body.
"This is perfect. Thank you. And for the flowers too. You're the best," I beamed, grabbing his shirt and pulling him down for another kiss.
"You're welcome. How are you feeling now? The doctor told me that you're fine." He said he placed the flower in the empty vase beside me.
"Yeah, my body aches a—Gordon!" I squeaked as he pulled me onto his lap, grabbing my box of macarons so they wouldn't fall. "What are you doing?"
"Cuddling. Fuck, I missed you," he grinned, giving my thigh a soft squeeze, and he kissed my shoulder. "I missed you so much. I'm never going to let you spend more than a hour away from me ever again."
"But you'll have to go to work," I replied as I ran my fingers through his dark hair.
"I'll work from home. I'll turn our house into the new G.C. Corp."
"Don't you dare."
"What? You don't want me around?" He pouted; Gordon just seriously pouted like a child.
"You're so cute," I laughed, pinching his cheek. "I want you around, but the house is going to be too rowdy because G.C. is big."
"Then I'll bring you to work every day. I'll turn a whole floor into an apartment so we can stay there during work hours and then return back home," he nodded.
"Then you'll barely get any work done because you'll be too distracted by me. That will be too bad for business, Mr Graff," I teased.
It was a joke, but his obsession still made my stomach all warm and squirmy and happy.
"You're not getting the vision, Iris. You're my inspiration, my muse. With you close by, I can design hundreds of clothes in a day which would have usually taken me longer. My productivity will skyrocket. It will be a win-win for both me and the business. I get to keep my beautiful, amazing girlfriend by my side, and the company will rack in sales. See, my idea is brilliant!" he grinned like he had discovered the cure to mankind’s sadness.
"How did you come up with such a crazy idea?" I laughed and flicked his forehead. "Has anyone told you you're silly?"
"No, because this silly goose side of me is only reserved for you, my love. For only you," he whispered, cupping my cheek, and he kissed me.
I wrapped my arms around his neck, pulling him closer and drowning in the softness of his lips.
"I missed you too, Gordon. I never want to be away from you again," I whispered.
"And we'll never be. It will always be us: you, me, and our baby," he replied, placing his hand on my belly, and my breath hitched.
That was right. The plan was always the three of us for now until we decided to have more in the future.
But...
"Are you alright? You look sad? Did I say something wrong?" Gordon asked, stroking my cheek.
"No. It's just that that... I... um... it's just that something happened with Blair some moments before you came, um... It might change how things are between us," I mumbled and tried to slide off from his lap, but he held me tighter.
"Nothing will ever change what is between us," he assured me, his eyes stern, yet gentle. "What happened between you and Blair? Were there complications with her delivery? I admit, I haven't thought or asked about her since she was brought to the hospital, so I don't know how she's faring."
"She's fine. Better than I expected. She even screamed at me," I replied.
"Glad to see that she's healthy even though she had to be a bitch about it." He snorted, rolling his eyes. "And her baby?"
"That's um... that's where the problem is. Because of everything that happened, she's... she's fighting for her life. They had to put her on a ventilator because the fire drastically affected her oxygen level and she inhaled meconium. And... and that's not the worst part. She... she... Blair doesn't want her."
"What do you mean? She wants to abandon her child?" He frowned, furrowing his brows.
"Yes," I cried, blinking back my tears. "You should have heard the awful things Blair said about the poor child. She called her a she-devil. She... she blamed her for what happened to her, calling her bad luck. She... she said she hated her. Blair said she hated the baby she carried for nine months and wished she were dead. She's... she's so cruel."
"It's ok, love," Gordon comforted me, pulling me closer to him as he wiped the stubborn tears that fell down my face.
"It's not. The... the poor baby has just been born, and she's already being rejected by her own mother. I... I thought Blair was just having postpartum depression because of all she went through, but no, she's just selfish. Can you believe that she said she would keep her if we broke up and you dated her?"
"She said that?" He crinkled his face, and I nodded.
"She did, and of course I said no, but it's just so crazy that she could do something so evil. I always thought there was some good deep down in her and maybe motherhood would bring it out, but I was wrong. She's just too selfish." I sniffled and bowed my head. "So you can see why I um... made the crazy decision I... I... um... made."
"What did you do?" He asked, and I swallowed.
"I... I... I asked to adopt the child." I blurted and shut my eyes. "I know I shouldn't have done something so impulsive when I know we're a family, but I couldn't let her be tossed into foster care or given up to a random couple for adoption. I was terrified that she would be treated like me in her new home, and I can't let an innocent child go through that because of her selfish mother and criminal father. But I don't want to choose between both of you. I don't want to leave you, but I can't bear abandoning her. Please, don't make me. I l—"
"Shh," he hushed me, placing his finger over my lips. "There's no choosing. You can adopt the child. And when we get married, I'll adopt her too."
