Chapter 78

“Okay, let’s think about this.” I pinch the bridge of my nose. “Nora are you sure you followed the scent to my old school.”

“Yeah, and it was heaviest on Gwen.” She crosses her arms.

“We’re back to square one.” I rub my eyes.

“One of you morons better untie me. I can’t feel my hands.”

I nod and Nora lets out a hiss of a breath but extends her fingers and werewolf claws descend. She swipes at the ropes and Gwen stands.

“Now, if you idiots will excuse me.” She makes for the door, but Melanie stops her.

“You’re not going anywhere until we figure this out.” When Gwen tries to push past her, she continues, “You should want to help us if you do care about your sister and parents like you say you do.”

Gwen’s face turns red, but she nods and sits back on the bed.

“Okay, so we know it’s not Gwen but someone at my old school,” I say.

“And why does Gwen smell like the magic?” Nora frowns.

“Does she still?” I ask.

Nora scrunches up her nose, then looks sheepishly at me. “No, not really. But she did before, it’s faint now.”

I face Gwen. “Who were you with?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know.” She smirks.

“Do you want to help us solve who is trying to kill paranormals or not?”

“Fine. I was with Lance and then Amelia came over and we watched a movie.” She glances down at her jacket. “Then I went outside for a smoke and it was cold, and Amelia let me borrow her jacket and that’s when these two crazies kidnapped me.”

“Lance?” Melanie stops. “Isn’t that your ex-boyfriend, Brene?”

I went ice-cold. “It’s not Lance.”

Everyone looks at me and the silence in the small room is deafening.

“It’s Amelia.”
