Chapter 27

“Why are you doing this to us Zeus?"

“Why?" She cried and I just kept staring like an idiot as Luna Isabel and Myra wriggled in their bondage.

They were tied to chairs in a cottage one of my secret hideouts back then.

“We gave you what you want, why are you hurting us again?" The Luna asked and I just remained like a statue unable to find the right answer. I asked myself, why was I indeed doing this. I knew abducting the Lycan's family was wrong, but I was doing this for my mate. Even though I didn't know exactly why she was waging war, I still supported her.

“Why?" She asked again and my eyes lowered. I relived the whole thing again. How I had gotten here, how I chosen this ugly path.

“That's not how you water this one!" I pitched causing Green to stop abruptly. She frowned slightly as she held the pipe before the flower.

“I've nurtured this garden for centuries so how could I be possibly getting it all wrong?" She grimaced. I inched closer to her with a smirk before retrieving the pipe off her.

“This is how you do it." I smiled before directing it at her.

“Zeus!" I laughed as she fought against the water but by then her clothes were already drenched.

“Oh, you think this is funny?" She eyed me but I kept laughing regardless.

“Two can play that game you know." She donned a cunning look.

“Wait Green." I tried to plead but she was quick to carry my pipe spraying its water all over my body.

“Green." I laughed but when she relented not, I resumed mine too. Both of us laughing like lovestruck birds while the guards simply watched in amusement.

“Lady Green!" A lady called in an extremely tensed tone causing us to toss our play away. Her eyes beheld this pain and sadness, and our smiles couldn't help but die off.

“What happened?" Green asked sternly.

“Yesterday, the Lycan and his Werewolves suddenly attacked my Clan, we've lost seventy-five of our members, Lady Green." The lady muttered with her head bowed. Green gasped, my eyes widened. Another woman came dashing towards us, her countenance not so indifferent from the first.

“Lady Green, there have been some harsh development." The lady muttered as she halted beside the first. The both of us remained like statues as the lady took deep breaths but somehow, I knew it was definitely something heartbreaking.

“The Lycan and his army, attacked our clan yesterday and we lost ninety." The woman blurted in shame. I glanced at Green again, her expression only seemed to harden but beneath that face, I could see pain. Pain she was trying hard to hide.

I didn't even know where to start from or how to even begin to comfort her. I was probably just as confused like her. My mate was one no community ever dared to wage war with, especially Damian. He might be the Lycan, but I knew him as a coward. But that thought changed. Damian attacked. Damian had the audacity to touch my mate's land. We hadn't even waged war on them yet but after this move, Green was definitely going to scorch his Pack.

“What do we do?" The first one asked and just when I thought the bad news was over, another lady came running towards the garden. Her expression even worse than the others.

“Lady Green," my heart picked pace a bit hoping the situation wasn't worse like I imagined.

“The Lycan attacked my Clan last night and—” the lady stuttered. "And we lost about half of the buildings, our members."

“What were you three idiots doing that you allowed the Lycan to trample over us like that?" Green growled, anger flaming in her eyes.

“It was totally unprecedented my lady." One of them sharply responded.

“They came with full force, with a warning not to smear his lands." Another added.

My mate's breaths stormed out heavily before she furiously walked out of the garden.

“Celine, call the rest, we're holding a meeting in an hour!"

“Green!" I called while I chased after her into the building. I wondered why this bad circumstance had to spring up at a time like this.

“Green!" I yelled, knocking repeatedly on her door. I tried breaking in, but I knew that would only worsen things. She was probably angry and dealing with the pain of losing her people. I sighed, several thoughts scaling my mind on how to calm her down. To stop her from making rash decisions.

I rushed to my room, changing my clothes hastily. Knowing my mate for who she was, she was definitely going to retaliate tomorrow. At the same time, I didn't want her too. Perhaps because I considered the Werewolves as my kind or perhaps because I thought of the innocent lives that'll be lost. Perhaps due to the fact I failed to see the point of this war. Why did she need these artifacts? What were her dreams? Was the end result was going to favor any of us?

But one fact was obvious. If this war continued, then the fate of the supernatural world would forever change. I needed to stop her no matter what it cost. And as one hour elapsed, I darted out of my room, aiming for the meeting room where Green would certainly be. I didn't even wait for the guards to push the doors open for me. I spelled the door open. Silence descended as I sauntered into the room of ten, their gaze all directed at me. I could recognize only a few apart from Green and Celine but I focused less on them.

“Green whatever you're planning on doing is a bad idea." I announced and she frowned.

“Are you even hearing yourself?" She almost growled but I sauntered towards her regardless.

“The Lycan killed my people. That despicable puppy waged war against my people, and you expect me to just keep quiet and do nothing!"

“No but I expect you to be logical and not this!" I pointed to the large Crimson Prowlers Pack map on the table.

“Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure you want to retaliate tomorrow. You want your revenge." I voiced.

“Yes,” she scowled. "I'm going to shred him to pieces, I'll wipe out his pathetic pack out of existence!" She swore.

“It doesn't have to be this way." I sternly quoted.

“Zeus you know I'm not going to listen to your nonsense so I'll advice you leave this room at once,” she replied with a ferocious look, but I remained firm in my position.

“You started this war; everybody is scared of you. I'm sure Damian just did it for you to stay off his back. You and I very much know that you're above him." I pursed my lips, glancing briefly at her commanders. "You don't have to respond with the same violence like him."

She scoffed.

“Are you trying to defend Damian because he’s a Werewolf?"

“No." I answered almost immediately, but a part of me knew I didn't want her to shed innocent Werewolves lives.

“I'm trying to show you a better way."

She crossed her arms over the chest while she leaned against the table's edge.

“What is the purpose of this war you started?" I asked rhetorically. "You want the three of our world's most powerful artifacts. The Witches gem, The Dragon stone and The Werewolf Hide." I pursed my lips, holding her gaze carefully.

“To get the Werewolf Hide, we don't even need to go full force against the Prowlers Pack. Our main target here is Damian. Damian knows where this artifact is, all we have to do is make him talk."

“And how do we make him talk?" She arched her eyebrow. I glanced at their faces again before focusing on Green.

“One thing Damian loves more than anything in the world, is his family. We will use his wife and daughter as leverage and trust me, he'll have no choice but to spill the beans."

“It won't be easy." Celine interjected. My gaze darted to her stern expression.

“At a time like this, I'm sure the Lycan is giving his family top notch security and it could take days or even weeks just to successfully carry out that mission. We don't have that much time to waste, he could be planning another attack before we know it."

I smirked.

“Just in case you've forgotten, I am Zeus." And a smile crept to Green's face.

“I once abducted his family, doing it again is like taking a candy from a baby."

“As good as this plan of yours is Zeus, I still want revenge." Green muttered dragging my attention back to her.

“Green." I sighed.

“Don't try and convince me. If we follow your plan, it means no blood will be shed, no war will descend on Damian's Pack. But you see, that's the problem,” she uttered. "If there's no war, then there's no fear and if there's no fear, then it means Damian and his puppies will have the audacity to smell my lands again.

I want Damian to know, I want every single Werewolf out there to know that, absolutely no one dares to defy me. I'm going to teach him a lesson just like I did to Vera,” she voiced with so much confidence and faint anger booming.

“If you want to join me in this fight, then it will be my rules." I heaved a light sigh, dearly hoping I wouldn't have to relive the same scenario that happened at Vera's Coven.

“And what are the rules?" I asked.

“Firstly," she gestured her hand midair. "You're going to abduct his family this night." I looked through the windows and evening had already dawned.

“And as the morning sets tomorrow, My elite army and I will attack the Prowlers Pack just for payback. I'll get the Werewolf Hide and I'll try my best not to kill him. So, are you in or out?" She asked and all of a sudden, I felt pressured. Their eyes were boring holes at me like they thirsted to know what scaled my mind. Whether I played by her rules or not, innocent lives were still going to be lost. But at least, I deserved to know why she was doing all this.

“Can we talk alone for a moment." I mumbled. She squinted her eyes a bit before ordering them out with a gesture. And as soon as the door clicked shut, the question dropped.

“Why are you doing this? The Witch’s Gem, The Werewolf Hide, The Dragon Stone—why do you need them so badly?" I asked.

Sadness dawned on her face, and I could sense her hesitation.

“Maybe I don't deserve an answer but at least let me know, is it for good or bad?" I asked.

She held my gaze for a long while before her lips finally moved.

“I don't know anymore,” she mumbled, and it reminded me of Martha. She had given this same response too. But it didn't help allay my fears. It didn't answer my questions, my mate was up to something. Something that could change the fate of our worlds.

I smiled.

“I promised to fight your battles, didn't I?" She stared at me in disbelief.

“So, I'm going to do this one too. Just don't die tomorrow." I inched closer to her.

“What if what I'm planning to do is up to no good?" She asked in a whisper. I gulped down my saliva with my smile still intact.

“Then I'm trusting you to do the right thing."
