Chapter 21

It had been four days to the incident at my house, and though I felt like I had no right to feel bad for what I did, I couldn’t help but feel a little bit bad, just a little bit. Reeves hadn’t tried to reach me in all those four days, it made me second guess the advice Stephen had given me, maybe we went too far with it and maybe my actions had pushed Reeves farther away from me and closer to that Daisy girl. Well, there’s only one way to find out.

I grabbed my phone from my desk and called Stephen. He has given me the advice, so he might as well be present for everything that is happening because of his advice. I told him to meet me at the cafe and hung up before he could start asking questions. I carried my purse with me as I made my way out of the office.

“Mel—” Pete started when he saw me. I rolled my eyes at him, letting him know I was in a hurry, and I wasn’t interested in anything he had to say to me.

Pete and Jones—I couldn’t even tell who was better. The two men were obsessed with me, and it felt like the more I talked to them, the more the obsession increased. Yes, I had initiated it because I thought it was cute to confuse the men who would do anything to get me to smile at them, talk more of date them, and I was bored, now they won’t let me live.

I shook all thoughts of Jones and Pete from my head as I entered my car and drove away.

“What’s wrong? You sounded troubled,” Were the first words Stephen uttered when he saw me sitting at a secluded table. My eyes, as well as the rage they carried, were situated at the one person I was here for, Daisy.

I watched the girl smile and flirt at every customer, the way she served them, hoping for something in return.

“She’s just thirsty! She’s a thirsty little girl, and I’m torn because I can’t tell what she’s thirsty for—Money? Sex?” I let my eyes settle on Stephen to help answer my question. Stephen was confused. He had just arrived, and I was already bombarding him with questions that didn’t make any sense to him.

“That’s the girl I was telling you about, the Daisy girl that has her claws in Reeves’s face,” I let out a sigh.

“Oh, she’s a pretty girl,” Stephen smiled. Was he trying to rile me up? Because it was working. I was laying my complain about how the good for nothing brat was trying to steal my money bag and all he could said is “she’s a pretty girl”??

“I know she’s pretty dumb ass, you don’t have to remind me,” I rolled my eyes.

“Daisy, I think I just saw your hot customers car, that black Benz. I’m sure he’s the one,” some dumb dirty waiter said to Daisy. What type of work ethic did they even have in the cafe that they could talk about customers like that? And hot customer? Reeves?

“I see the way you light up anytime he comes around. Ugh, you guys are going to make the prettiest babies,” the large, mouthed girl added. Made me wonder, if she ever shuts her mouth, would she die? Because nothing good ever comes out of those large, chapped lips.

“Melanie...” Stephen’s voice was laced with warning. A warning that I didn’t heed to. I got up from my table and walked to the counter to set this Daisy straight, thankfully she wasn’t standing behind the counter, so if I wanted to give her a hot sound warning, I’d get her square in the face. If they could talk about customers like that, then I sure could say whatever I wanted, right?

“Daisy,” I smiled at her. It wasn’t a friendly smile; it was the type of smile Reeves had offered me at my house four days ago.

“I didn’t want to have to come up here to set you straight. I believe I gave to time to understand what was going on and use your brain, but now I see that you really don’t know how to use it.” I smiled at her.

“Excuse me?” She asked, I’m guessing she wasn’t expecting my outburst.

“I’ll say it in simpler words, so you can understand me better; STAY AWAY FROM REEVES.” I wasn’t smiling anymore.

“Wha—”

“I’m not going to say it again. Take this as a warning or whatever.” I smiled at the girl. I didn’t care that all the people in the cafe had their eyes on us, I was used to it. I just had to pass my message in a way that it would stick.

“I don’t think you should talk to me like that,” Daisy had the nerves to say.

“Well, I don’t want to talk to you like this, or at all, Darling, but here we are,” I smiled.

“Melanie! What’s the meaning of this?” Reeves voice sounded like thunder. Oh, so he finally came in.

“Nothing, I just came to set her straight,” I smirked. Daisy has her eyes wide open with tears threatening to fall from them. Of course, it’s very appropriate to cry at this moment, right when Reeves walked in, that’s not even a bitch move at all.

Reeves looked from me to the space behind my head. His face changed, and whatever it was that was behind me had caused it. My mind told me it was Stephen, but I didn’t want it to be true. So, when I decided to turn around to check what it was that made him so angry, I hoped it wasn’t Stephen, but it was, and he looked like he didn’t want to be there at that moment.

“You came to set her straight? Why don’t you worry about yourself and your budding relationship first?” Reeves asked and grabbed Daisy’s hand, leading her out of the restaurant with him. I wanted to follow after them, but Stephen grabbed my hand, stopping me from taking another step.

“You’ve done enough. Let’s just go,” Stephen suggested. I took in a deep breath and followed after him as he led me out of the restaurant.

I had come for answers, and even if I didn’t get them the right way, I still got them anyway. Reeves had not been in any type of contact with Daisy either.
