Chapter 713: Miles’s Last Words

Miles killed Ronald again and again.

And yet Ronald kept getting back up, every single time.

Miles's voice came through the footage and reached Steven and the other two.

"Where the hell is this guy's weakness?"

"Is he really unkillable?"

"No. That's impossible. There's no carbon-based life form in this world that can't be killed. There must be something I'm missing!"

"But... am I really going to lose?"

"Something's wrong. Something's off. I shouldn't be losing. How could I possibly lose?"

"His ability is insane, but I'm stronger than him!"

"And yet I'm actually losing. Something has to be wrong."

"Wait. I get it now. I understand everything now."

"There's a traitor inside Blizzard City. Someone leaked information about my abilities."

When Steven heard Miles say those words out loud, his grip on his cup tightened without him even realizing it.

His brows furrowed sharply, and the suspicion he'd been holding inside suddenly grew much stronger.

Was there really a mole inside Blizzard City?

Cindy stared at the screen with a calm, unreadable expression.

But Steven knew her mind was racing too.

Theron's face stayed neutral. This clearly wasn't his first time watching the footage.

Steven thought to himself: So the higher-ups at Blizzard City must have already seen this too.

Ian had seen it. Gerald had seen it.

They all suspected there was a mole inside Blizzard City.

Was that why they'd pushed so hard to make him captain of Dire Wolf Team?

Or were they setting something up, using him to draw the traitor out?

No. He couldn't afford to trust anyone too easily.

Not even Ian.

Steven felt lost, like he was stumbling around in the dark. He was an outsider with no idea what was really going on inside. He knew nothing about the power struggles between the different factions at Blizzard City.

So this wasn't something he could afford to jump to conclusions about.

But he had to make sure he didn't get dragged into it.

Steven quickly pulled his thoughts back and kept watching the footage.

In the video, Miles was clearly on his last legs.

Against a Ronald who could come back from the dead, Miles had no way out.

And Ronald seemed to know exactly what Miles was capable of, even how he attacked, as if he'd known it all along.

In the end, Miles lost the strength to hold himself up and collapsed into the rubble.

His voice came out weak and broken.

"Listen... I... figured out his ability."

"He can... see the future. He sees the way I attack. Remember, watch out for that."

"You have to... use the karma law against him."

On screen, a massive flaming fist slammed into his face.

"Tell Steven..."

Miles left behind one last name, and then the screen was swallowed completely by white light.

Everyone knew what that meant. It was the bomb that captain-level fighters triggered when they chose to self-destruct.

Miles's recorded footage ended there.

Steven stood with his hands clasped in front of him, head down, lost in thought.

The amount of information packed into Miles's final recording was overwhelming.

Ronald could see Miles's future?

That kind of ability, combined with being unkillable, felt completely hopeless to go up against.

And that last line — "Tell Steven..."

An unfinished sentence, and yet it had pushed Steven right in front of Blizzard City's top brass.

"The karma law..."

Steven understood what Miles had meant.

If he was right, there was a very powerful karma law at work within him.

One that could even reverse the cycle of life and death.

He had always assumed he could come back from death because he'd awakened some kind of special supernatural ability.

He just hadn't unlocked it yet.

"Maybe I should go find the Nelson Group for help someday."

The thought crossed his mind.

Just then, Theron's voice pulled him back.

"Now that you've seen it, what did you take away from it?"

Steven glanced over at him and smiled lightly. "A lot, actually. I didn't expect the enemy to be this much of a problem."

Theron said, "But Miles mentioned at the end that you could handle him."

"He didn't finish what he was saying. Don't read too much into it."

Theron smiled. "Five people from Eroding Moon died. Four of them died at your hands."

"At this point it's pretty clear they have a psychic who can predict the future on their side. But you affected the karma — which means you're their natural counter."

Steven said, "But that alone isn't enough. How do you beat someone who can't die?"

Theron asked, "Could you pull him into your extradimensional space and seal him in there?"

Steven shook his head. "The extradimensional space can't actively pull in living things. It works through intention. My intention only works on non-living matter."

"For living people, they have to willingly enter the extradimensional space. I can't force them in."

Theron slapped his knee. "Easy then — just beat him to pieces first, then throw what's left into the extradimensional space. Done!"

Steven gave him a long look.

"Do you even hear yourself?"

"You think I'm Miles or something?"

Miles could kill Ronald dozens of times because his attack power was on a completely different level.

But Steven's strength was in defense.

Killing Ronald even once would be a stretch for him.

And on top of that, whether Ronald's future-reading ability would even work on Steven was still an open question.

While the two of them were going back and forth, Cindy suddenly spoke up with a thought that made everyone stop and think.

"I remember that when Miles fought Ronald, that witch Marlee was there too."

Steven and Theron both looked at her.

"Right, she was. What about it? Are you saying she had some kind of effect on the fight?"

Cindy lightly bit the tip of one of her fingers.

"Ronald's abilities come from the Trait System — undying regeneration, fire, an incredibly tough body. Based on how we understand supernatural abilities, there's no way he could also have a time-based ability on top of all that."

"So my guess is that ability was given to him by Marlee."

"In other words, if we take her out first, Ronald loses at least thirty percent of his fighting power."

That suggestion immediately opened up a whole new line of thinking for Steven.

"That's actually a pretty strong possibility."

The group talked it over, pulling out quite a bit of useful intel from what Miles had left behind.

Theron smiled and said, "You don't need to put too much pressure on yourself, honestly."

"The core point of this mission for you is to block that witch from Eroding Moon's ability to predict the future."

"As for dealing with Ronald? There's someone better suited for that than you."

Steven's eyes sharpened. "You mean Bryce?"

Theron nodded without hesitation.

"Bryce's ability is actually a really good match against Ronald. I can't tell you what it is right now, of course."

"But if I had to guess, he'll be the one leading this operation. And you, like before, will mostly be there to support him."
