Bonus Chapter — Side Story: Fighting to Protect

Eva hummed as she danced back and forth to the kitchen, she was preparing dinner.

"It's already 8, he must be coming any minute now." Eva mumbled to herself as she turned off the gas stove and went out of the kitchen to the living room, in order to wait for him.

"Master said to call him after madam fell asleep today."

She heard one of the maids gossiping with the other. She stopped on her tracks and tried to listen more.

"Why?"

"They said he is injured and don't want Madam Eva to find out." The same maid who Eva heard first answered.

"Where is he?"

Both of the maids got startled but soon they got nervous when they saw Eva standing in front of them.

"I think I asked something. Where is he?" Eva demanded one more time.

"Umm... they said he is in the penthouse; the gang uses it as a base.” Without a second thought, Eva took her coat and rushed outside.

She got in the car and told the driver to drive to the said location. Soon they reached the pen house and she rushed outside.

When she got inside, Alex was sitting on a sofa with his bandaged arms exposed while staring at what it looked like an almost dead man.

"I thought you were going to kill me. What was that about huh?" He kicked the man while the others laughed at the scene.

"Alex." Eva voiced out making everyone go silent. His eyes widened as soon as he realised Eva was present there.

He immediately got up seeing tears filled Eva. "Baby, what's wrong? Why are you here?" Alex panicked.

Without a word she went in front of him *slap*, the sound of her hands meeting Alex's cheeks filled the silent room.

"Why?" Eva hugged Alex as tears fell down her cheeks.

"Aww is my baby crying? I was the one to be slapped." Alex cooed Eva while signalling the boys to drag that half-dead man away.

"Why are you trying to hide everything from me? I know I am not the most reliable lover but still, I get worried." Eva said between her cries.

"I am sorry, I didn't want to make you worried." He caressed her hair.

"What are you guys looking at, shoo." Alex shooed the gang members who were spectating the unfolding lovers quarrel of their boss, all of them smirked at their boss mouthing "all the best" before going out and giving them their time.

"If I didn't overhear maids talking, you would have kept your injuries a secret from me. It felt like my heart stopped for a while when I heard it. Why do you do this? You said you would stop exposing yourself in danger." Eva looked towards him.

"I am sorry, I really am. It won't happen again. So, give me a smile, okay? Where is that smile? Come on." Alex bent down to Eva's eye level with a smile, displaying his dimples on each side.

"Did it hurt?" She caressed Alex's cheek the one she slapped.

"My arm or my cheek?" Alex replied in a playful tone.

"Both."

"Hmm.... I don't know about my arm but my cheek sure is painful. That was the first slap of my life." Alex held his cheeks acting like he was in pain.

"Stop joking and sorry." Eva hit his chest with a now smiling face.

"There it is, my precious smile." Alex cooed and hugged Eva.

"I am sleepy." A yawn escaped as Eva spoke those words.

"You can fall asleep. Come here." Alex pulled her into his lap after sitting himself down on the sofa.

Soon she fell asleep in his arms and he carried her outside.

He placed her carefully into the car and drove home. After reaching there, he looked at his side to see still peacefully sleeping Eva.

"You really are like a cute little baby huh?" He bopped her nose before undoing her seatbelt.

He bridal carried her inside the home, the maids were waiting for them, still anxious as Eva had left in a hurry with such furious eyes.

Alex stared at them; they trembled at his gaze probably scared for their punishment.

"I will let it slide this time." He mumbled before walking up to the stairs.

"Sir." One of the maids called out.

He stopped on his tracks and looked back.

"I know this is rude but young madam is really concerned about you. Why do you still keep getting in fights?"

She was one of the older maids who had been working in Garner household for so many years and was the only one who could question him with less fear.

He nodded his head in understanding and smiled.

"Just because I said I will stop this business doesn't mean my enemy will stop hunting me. And fighting for me now is not just for ruling it's for protection, I can't stop it just because she is worried about me after all I am fighting to protect her."

With that said he headed towards his room, their room with his still sleeping beauty wife in his arms.
