Chapter 146 A Break

Chapter 146 A Break

Trina's POV

When we arrived, the bar was as it was, reeking of alcohol, disgusting, irritating—then I spotted someone I wasn't supposed to see, like the last person I would expect to be in this kind of setting, ever.

Madeline.

She was super busy with a glass of beer in her hands, smiling wide, her cheeks reddened, her eyes glinting, then I looked at the person she was talking to, and a broken gasp escaped my lips.

“What's wrong—isn't that Madeline?”

Giovanni appeared from behind me, his voice portraying how shocked he was. Even he knew this was unlike Madeline, and they had only met recently.

“Wait let me go get her–” He pulled me back so fast, and just before I could complain, I saw his brows furrow. He was concerned, cautious…suspicious.

“What if it's a trap?” He wasn't even looking at me as he was speaking, he was just looking right at them, and the man was not impressed by the sight in front of him.

I rolled my eyes. It had to be a misunderstanding.

Madeline would never have known or even thought to do whatever the hell this is. This has to be coincidental.

So I told him my feelings, but of course he didn't agree with me one bit, even though I understood where he was coming from.

“Just because you trust your friend doesn't mean I have to. I can't afford to have any harm come to my future wife and mother of my kids. That's just unacceptable. I refuse to rule anyone off.”

A blush crept up my cheeks, especially at the fact that he wasn't saying that to be cheeky. He actually meant it, like it was a freudian slip.

“Wait. Just let me.” I begged, more concerned for my friend than anything else.

I could see how displeased he was, the deep frown on his face, but he eventually let me go, leaving my side and heading inside first.

I took a deep breath as I cautiously walked up to where she was seated.

“Madeline?” I called her name with a warm smile.

She raised up her head, and her eyes lit up when she saw me, a gasp slowly forming after.

“Hey, Trina! how are you here?” She was so bubbly, it was insane to see.

“Uhm, can I speak to you for a second?” I needed to get her away to talk at least.

“Yeah sure but first, meet Leo. He's the one I was talking about.” She pointed towards the guy she was having drinks with.

I looked at the man in question.

Oh I knew Leo. Let's just say I met him a week ago, even though he knew nothing of my existence.

“Hi, please just let me borrow her.” I begged, as curtly as I could.

He just nodded, and I noticed the weird look he gave me as Madeline stood up to leave with me.

I dragged her to a corner. Giovanni sat at a distance, his eyes on us, blackened. The man was not happy at all, he wasn't enjoying what was happening.

“What?” She asked, her face now conveying confusion.

“First of all, what are you doing here?”

Honestly, it made no sense.

“I'm having fun. He's the guy I've been telling you about. I met him and we've been hanging out, mostly at my place since I simply refused to go to his, and he brought me here today…”

I didn't even know what to say. He knew he damn house? Did he approach her on purpose? I looked ahead, stealing a glance at him. What the hell was he doing with her?

I brought my eyes back to my friend who was clearly excited about what the hell was going on.

“And you're comfortable?” I couldn't help but ask, considering the fact that just one look at him, and I wanted to throw up. Madeline could do better than him. He didn't give her odd vibes?

“I actually have a bad feeling, but it's not that bad.”

There, she has intuition, but she has flat out refused to use it, and that was a major problem when it came to women like us. Either the sex was good, or something isn't right here.

Still, I tried to set her on course.

“Madeline. Please, listen to me. Turn your back, and go home. Please go home, or go to my place, and lock the doors.”

“What? Home? What's happening?”

I took a deep breath. She knew I was an assassin, but she had never really seen me do it, and now it's to a man she likes? That was on a whole different level. Still I had to tell her that nothing was okay and that she wasn't safe.

“Im actually here on a mission–”

She gasped loudly, her eyes popped.

“Wait, really?” I nodded.

“And it's to kill that man. Leo. I'm to kill him, any moment now.”

I saw the moment her eyes shook in fear, real fear. She even took a step back she didn't know she took. Then she began to stutter. I had just successfully traumatized and terrorized my friend. Like I said, this was all a coincidence.

“L-leo? You're to kill Leo? You're like, going to kill him? I mean, get him six feet under type of kill?”

I swallowed, oh God.

“I don't know how you two even met, but yes, I'm here to kill him silently. I knew he would be here but I wasn't expecting you.”

“I don't know what to say.”

“He's a terrible man. He's killed people, Madeline, but good people. Please you can't have a crazy sexual attraction towards him. Whenever you see men like this, run–”

Oh my God. I screamed at the top of my lungs as I pushed my friend down.

“Duck!”

Gunshots flew over my head from that man's direction. I watched Giovanni fly, literally, from the crowd, towards his direction.

The two men wrestled as chaos erupted from the collision. Men came out with weapons, all headed towards me.

Oh my God. Something happened, and now I was the target. That man came prepared to kill me, and he wanted Madeline to watch. Who planned this? For once it didn't feel good to be a target.

Madeline was shaking, crying and begging to go home, but I was so annoyed because it was simply not the time. I had to hold her and protect her as I began to fight off these men with everything I had. At this point the bar was evacuated.

I tried everything, every move, but they were too many, ferocious, angry, and it was too unbelievable.

When I checked, I saw Giovanni beating the hell out of Leo, like a maniac. He tried to shoot me.

I had a feeling Giovanni was going to kill him in a way that would disgust even a heartless woman like me.

All of sudden, I was outnumbered, and Madeline was dragged away from me. I tried to fight off the men, but I was only one woman, the fight had gone on for fifteen minutes, and I was beyond exhausted, so they got me.

Madeline was screaming at the top of her lungs, ugly crying, shaking like crazy. I bet if we survived this, she wouldn't want to be friends with me anymore. She would hate me and throw the friendship beneath her feet.

Now I couldn't even help her. I was pretty occupied, and it was clear that the two men that held me down were about to beat me to death. I took punch after punch, and that's when I spotted Giovanni rushing them.

I kid you not, this man had not a single injury or bruise. Leo slowly stood up, trying to get away, which I hated, but Giovanni rushed those men and beat both to death in seconds, then he pulled me up.

“My poor baby, I'm so sorry.” He threw me over his shoulders and I was too dizzy as he took me out, spotting Madeline following closely behind us. She was pretty shaken up, but at least she was relieved.

Then I heard a gunshot, Leo falling to the ground in the distance but standing up and beginning to limp almost immediately. He was already a shadow of himself, but the man was determined not to die.

Giovanni just focused on me after shooting him, keeping me well in the front seat and bundling Madeline in the back of the car.

He felt no pity for her.

“Now you know not to hang around with crazy men. Men that look like that aren't beating the allegations.”

“So rich coming from you–”

“Shut your mouth before I ditch you.”

She immediately shut her mouth.

I just smiled, breathing properly for the first time in a while, feeling out of danger.

………

Nico stood tall, the man ignoring Madeline's existence totally and glaring at me.

“Care to tell me what happened? Last I checked, he's still breathing. That bastard is still breathing whenever the fuck he is. He isn't dead yet.”

“He was with my friend, so I got distracted and tried to get her out of there.”

“Who cares?” Damn. Eva stepped in right on time, because Nico was certainly about to explode. I actually felt fear. So crazy.

“Nico, stop raising your voice. I'm sure she tried her best. They were clearly there for her. Someone had it all planned.”

He immediately calmed down. Yeah, I plan to use her to guilt trip him henceforth.

She's like the queen of the house, I'm sure she even has more power than he has at this point.

“Fine, I'll do it myself then. You're relieved.” He started to walk away, following his wife like a lost puppy. Madeline was still shaking. Unfortunately she had to be here and witness all of this.

“And what does that mean?”

“A break. No more missions for you.”
