Chapter 331 Quarrel
Chapter 331 Quarrel
Chloe Morgan's POV
Now that everything was settled, it was time for me to head home.
I glanced at Mary, who was still visibly upset, and made my way back to the parking lot.
"Chloe!" Mary turned to face me, her voice dripping with venom. "You wicked woman!"
She moved so quickly, charging at me just as I was about to open my car door. My hand was on the handle, but I hadn't even managed to open it before she was upon me.
To avoid her, I stepped back, creating some distance between us.
Mary slammed into the car door, and I took another step back, widening the gap.
"You bitch!" Mary screamed, her voice loud and full of rage, as if she was trying to vent all her frustrations.
"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be in this mess!"
"If it weren't for you, Grace would still be the only heiress of the Morgan family!"
I looked at the agitated Mary, finding her completely unreasonable.
"First of all, I'm not the reason you've become the woman you are now."
"Secondly, James has only one biological daughter, and that's me. Even if you were once his wife, that's in the past. You have no connection to James or the Morgan family anymore."
Yes, after James discovered that Mary had teamed up with Liam to go against him, he finally saw her true colors. He divorced her and severed all ties.
I'd heard that Mary had been trying everything to get a meeting with James, but he was completely disillusioned with her. No matter what she did, he refused to see her.
Besides, Dominic uncovered a crucial piece of information—Grace wasn't actually dead.
Grace had collaborated with Liam, helping him plot against James, while Liam helped Grace fake her death to escape.
However, Dominic hadn't yet found out where Grace was now.
Mary glared at me with a look so malicious it made me uncomfortable.
"No! This is all your fault!"
She screamed and lunged at me again, but I dodged her once more.
I frowned at the sight of Mary sprawled on the ground. "I hope this is the last time. If it happens again, I won't let you off."
Ignoring Mary, I prepared to head home. But as I opened the car door, I saw Mary pull out a knife and charge at me!
"Damn you, Chloe! I'm going to kill you!"
My eyes widened, and I quickly dodged the sharp blade.
I thought kidnapping was the worst Mary could do, but she actually tried to kill me!
With my life in danger, I couldn't afford to let Mary off the hook. With the help of some bystanders, I escaped and immediately called the police.
Mary was still screaming threats to kill me as she was taken away in the police car.
But no matter how much she protested, she was the one being taken away, and I was unharmed.
I hadn't been home long when Dominic arrived.
I was about to tell him what happened today, but he was already circling me, looking worried.
His behavior startled me. "What's wrong?"
He seemed out of breath, as if he'd rushed in. "Did you face danger today?"
He already knew what happened?
"No." I quickly grabbed Dominic's hand to stop him from pacing around me. "I wasn't hurt, not even a scratch!"
"Really? Mary pulled a knife on you, didn't she?"
"Yeah, but she didn't hurt me!" I smiled, cupping Dominic's face, feeling content seeing the concern in his eyes. "Don't worry, I called the cops and had her arrested."
"But seeing you so worried about me makes me really happy."
The more anxious Dominic was, the more it showed how much I meant to him. How could I not be happy?
Dominic stared at my face, as if trying to determine if I was telling the truth. After a moment, he finally relaxed and pulled me into his arms.
I leaned against his chest, smiling. "Didn't the person who reported to you tell you I wasn't hurt?"
If someone had informed him about today's events, they should've mentioned I wasn't injured. Why was he still so tense when he arrived?
"I didn't listen to the whole report."
"So, you heard I might be hurt and rushed over?"
Dominic nodded. "I tried calling you, but you didn't answer."
"Oh, sorry, it ran out of battery." I had just gotten home and hadn't had a chance to turn my phone back on, so I didn't know Dominic had called.
"It's okay, as long as you're safe." Dominic lowered his head and kissed me, using the sweet gesture to ease his worries.
I thought the matter with Mary was over, but a few days later, she was released.
When I found out Dominic was the one who had her released, I was furious.
He had done it without telling me, and his reason was to use Mary to find Grace.
And it was clear what he intended to do once he found Grace.
But Dominic was already dealing with Liam, and just gathering evidence against Liam was causing him enough trouble and danger. I didn't want my issues to add to his burdens.
So, we had an argument.
Dominic insisted that Grace and Mary needed to be dealt with immediately.
He believed that Mary's actions, like bribing others to target me, would happen again. Not everyone would abandon their plans because of gang affiliations.
So, he felt he had to deal with Grace and Mary quickly to ensure my safety.
But I wanted Dominic to focus on Liam for now. I believed Grace and Mary, aware of the danger, wouldn't try to harm me again. We could deal with them after handling Liam.
What angered me most was that he made decisions without consulting me.
"Dominic! I don't want you to keep making decisions on your own! This isn't just your issue!"
Dominic said, "Chloe, I want you to always do what you love. I don't want you to be troubled by these messy issues. I can handle them!"
Hearing this, I realized that next time, he still wouldn't discuss things with me.
This was completely different from what I had envisioned. I thought after everything we'd been through, he would inform me before making decisions.
But instead, he was hiding his actions under the guise of protecting me.
I shook my head, feeling disappointed. "Sorry, I think we both need some time to cool off."
