Chapter 330: Mary's Revenge
Chloe Morgan's POV
After some comforting, Matilda finally started to calm down.
She was still a bit worried, but she knew the strength of our dance troupe. Even if we were challenged by that other troupe, we might not lose.
To avoid making everyone anxious, Matilda decided not to tell the rest of the troupe about it.
To boost Matilda's confidence for any potential challenges, I decided to research that other dance troupe after work.
When the workday ended, everyone slowly gathered their things and left the studio. I was the last one to leave.
As I was about to get into my car, I felt something was off behind me.
I turned around but saw nothing unusual. Still, my hand instinctively closed the car door.
Dominic had been investigating Liam's dirt, and their conflict had escalated to the extreme.
I couldn't rule out the possibility that Liam had someone following me. After all, I was Dominic's biggest weakness. If Liam decided to use me to threaten Dominic...
I didn't want that to happen, so I couldn't get into the car. If I entered that confined space and someone was indeed following me, they might attack me on the road.
I needed to figure out what was going on.
Taking a deep breath, I clutched my bag tightly and walked in a certain direction.
As soon as I started walking, that eerie feeling of being followed returned.
This time, I didn't hesitate and quickly turned around. Though the person following me hid quickly, I still noticed something off.
I saw a familiar figure duck into a corner.
Standing there, feeling a bit tense, I finally remembered where that familiar feeling came from.
"Mary."
I called out her name loud enough for her to hear, staring at the corner where she was hiding.
The air seemed to grow still.
I kept my eyes on that corner, but no one came out.
Was she hiding from me? Or did I mistake her for someone else?
"Are you afraid to see me?" I let out a cold laugh. "You have the guts to follow me but not to face me?"
"Mary, if you really don't want to see me, I'll leave. We don't have much to say to each other anyway."
I kept my eyes on the corner, but no one appeared.
If being followed was just my imagination, that would be best.
If it was really Mary following me, then I had nothing to worry about.
Feeling less tense, I turned to leave.
Just as I was about to turn away, Mary stepped out from the corner. Behind her were three burly men.
Their presence was intimidating. Seeing them, I instinctively wanted to back away, clutching my bag even tighter.
"What do you want?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.
Mary glared at me, her eyes burning with hatred. "You really don't know?"
Her stare was so intense, it felt like she wanted to burn a hole through me. If looks could kill, I'd be dead a thousand times over.
"That's her!" she shouted, pointing at me with a trembling finger. "Now, grab her! I want her to suffer!"
So, they were here to capture me?
I glanced at the three men standing behind her. They didn't look like ordinary thugs. There was something about them, an aura that reminded me of Dominic's gang.
Were these guys from another gang, brought here by Mary to kidnap me?
The men looked me over and chuckled. "Three of us for one delicate woman? Really?"
"Are you overestimating her or underestimating us?" one of them sneered as they slowly approached.
"Alright, young lady, be good and we won't hurt you," another said, his voice dripping with false kindness. "It'd be a shame to damage such delicate skin."
As they got closer, I didn't hesitate. I reached into my bag and pulled out the token Dominic had given me.
After the last kidnapping incident, Dominic had given me a token representing his gang, just in case I faced danger again. I never thought I'd actually need to use it, but here I was.
The men stopped dead in their tracks when they saw the token.
"That token!" one of them exclaimed, his face turning pale. They turned to Mary, their expressions darkening.
"You said she had no power or influence, that it was safe to kidnap her!" one of them growled. "Do you even know what that token represents?"
"Damn it, no wonder she asked for all three of us!" another spat, glaring at Mary.
They started arguing, blaming Mary for not telling them the whole story.
Seeing the token work, I couldn't help but smile. "I also have a tracking device on me. If something happens to me, none of you will get away."
"Of course, if you leave now, I'll pretend this never happened. I'm sure you'd prefer that."
"No way!" Mary shrieked, her voice rising in pitch.
She pointed at me, her tone sharp and desperate. "She's lying to you! You took my money, so you should do what I say! Her token is fake! Everything she says is a lie!"
Watching Mary's twisted expression, I calmly twirled the token in my hand. Her accusations didn't faze me.
"If you don't believe me, you can try," I said, my voice steady.
The men exchanged glances, clearly weighing their options. They quickly made their decision.
They stepped back and apologized. "Thank you, miss. We'll leave now. Please remember, we were never here."
"Okay," I nodded, watching them retreat quickly.
Mary screamed after them, her voice filled with rage. "How can you do this! She's lying! Come back! Come back!"
But none of them turned back, and they soon disappeared from sight.
