Chapter 27

Chapter 27
Rhyland’s POV

I could hear rough footsteps coming up the stairs, not the ones you’d want to hear. The type of footsteps that let you know you were in a heap of trouble.

My eyes cast over to the hallway, seeing as my door was already opened and a fuming Cassius came into view.

“I knew it! I knew you were in it for your fucking self!”

I kept my face from showing any emotion, knowing good and well I should’ve known Raven would run to her older brother with this information.

He walked right up to me and stood directly in my face, his eyes held so much fury and I could definitely feel heat rolling off of him. So that is his element I’m guessing?

“I knew your sister would run to you, but did she tell you everything I said? Or just the parts she thought you’d want to hear?”

At this, his eyebrows furrowed and he slightly shook his head.

“I didn’t hear it from Raven.” He seethed and I was surprised to say the least. But... if he hadn’t heard it from Raven then who? It was just the two of us in this room.

“Elijah came to me an-,”

I cut him off with a hand motion and my eyes cut into slits.

“Elijah came to you? He wouldn’t have even heard the conversation at all. It was just Raven and I in here.”

The anger behind his expressions began to die down as doubt and worry began to seap in. I could feel my anxiety spike while thoughts rambled through my mind wildly, a weird sensation ramming into me.

“Something’s wrong.” Cassius spoke on it before I could and frankly I felt it too. Something felt... off? Like the air was growing thicker by the second.

“Cassius, where’s Elijah right now?”

Cassius’ hand spread out onto the wall beside him while he took a deep breath.

“With...” His words died in his mouth while his eyes went wide. I felt my anger flare up and the uneasiness grew stronger.

“Raven.” I finished through gritted teeth.

“Answer this, how would he know about a conversation I had with Raven if he wasn’t easedropping. This was his fucking plan and we fell right into it.” The wind started howling outside and it felt like the kingdom was coming to life.

I darted out of the doorway and down the stairs, listening to the howling wind slam against the windows. The clouds were as blue as could be outside today, where did this storm even come from?

I didn’t have to turn around to look, I could hear Cassius’ uneven footsteps rushing down behind me. The uncertain gleam in his eye earlier told me he didn’t want to believe Elijah would pin us against each other to carry out something but the real question was, what was he planning and where the two now?

As soon as he mentioned Elijah I knew something was fucked up. He wasn’t in sight when I talked to Raven and if he was he made sure we didn’t know.

“This way.” He ran past me and turned down another hall, straight towards the last door on the right.

He busted in only to find an empty room.

“Nothing, they aren’t here.”

My eyes scanned the room for any sign of whatever the hell I was searching for, but revealed nothing. Slowly I felt my heart rate excel as my eyes landed on the stone floor, a crack that was the width of a needle and it led outside of the room.

“Was that there before?” I motioned towards Cassius and I heard his breath hitch in the back of his throat.

“I- no..”

I followed it on instinct, allowing it to lead me down the hall and towards a small wooden trap door. My eyebrows furrowed and I turned to see Cassius eye the door like an old friend.

“This was the escape Elijah and his mother took to hide during the war.” He replied when he saw my confusion. I felt my body instantly tense knowing now more than ever that the bastard had something to do with it.

Opening up the trap door and squeezing through, Cassius and I automatically noticed the crack growing wider, it was now the width of a quarter.

I could hear rain pelting against the castle angrily.

“What the hell is going on?” I shouted behind me towards Cassius and his silence told me he knew.

“I’m not one to believe in old legends.”

I snapped my head around and glared at him.

“I don’t give a fuck what you believe in, what the hell is going on?!” The dark entrance the trap door had led us into was underground, the smell was a dead give away.

“My mother would tell us this old folk tale about this kingdom. It’s like the mother land for BlueBloods and if one of its children are I trouble, they say the elements destroy anything and everything to help.. even if that means destroying the entire village.”

My eyes widened and I looked back down at the crack in the stone. Earth was cracking. The rain violently hit the walls of the castle. The water element. The wind wouldn’t stop howling... Air..

“Fire..” I mumbled and Cassius stepped closer to me to hear.

“What?”

“Fire. The next element is fire.” His eyes widened and we both turned, sprinting down the dark abyss. Cassius took the lead since he knew where this led.

The rain grew louder and I knew we were about to hit a door that led outside, and I was right.

A small door above us dropped slightly from the rain and as soon as Cassius shoved it open the rain poured down on top of us. We gripped onto the muddy sides of the opening and pulled ourselves out.

“Look.” I gestured towards the enormous ruffles in the stone road, way bigger in size than the ones inside the castle. The stones were deformed and shifted upwards.

“There’s our lead.” He said before sprinting towards it and I followed right on his trail.

In the misty down pour, it made it extremely hard to see ten feet ahead of you and the deafening wind made it even harder to hear.

There was no way we were finding them any time soon.

Wait.

My eyes widened and I looked down at my hands, halting in my steps. Cassius stopped and ran back towards me yelling for me to come on.

I’m a Blueblood.

If what Cassius said was true, then this land would want to help me find her.

I knelt down and placed my hand into the indention in the stone road, allowing my finger to slip into the muddy mess.

A strong vibration hummed up my arm and towards my shoulder but I kept steady.

Something washed over my eyes like a cold breeze and in that moment, I could see straight through the rain and directly towards a man’s back. A girl was slumped over his shoulder and the black hair told me it was my girl.

“Follow me.”
