Chapter 12: Stay Away From Him

Chapter 12: Stay Away From Him

Sophie

“Sweetie, the Velkov family are dangerous. They organise stuff and get involved with illegal activities, they are known for being dangerous because they are the mafias. Yhsh have eyes and ears everywhere in the city and your father despises them. He wants to ruin them even though it was hard work.”  My mother said and I blinked profusely at her revelation only supporting every ounce of suspicion I had in the month.

I had spent my time with Romano,  the rumors were true. He is a part of the dangerous mafia. My heart dropped at the realization that the man I spent the past couple of months falling in love with was nothing but a criminal and a liar. I have spent months with him and not once did he think it was important to talk about it. I felt tears threatening to spill as my mother touched my face, drawing me back to this sick reality and my stomach turned. How can Romano do this?

“Romano is in the mafia?” I found myself asking.

“Yes, sweetheart. Romano is the next in line and he worked alongside his father.” She confirmed.

“You need to stay away, child. It is too dangerous for you to get involved.”

She caressed my face and advised me but I looked into her eyes and felt my heart shattered into a million pieces. The thought of never seeing him again was a difficult pill to swallow because I knew I couldn't do it. Even though it has only been a few months and I have madly fallen in love with him, I have fallen so deep and hard and I can't get back up. In these few months, I have learned how gentle and caring he is. He cares about me too much and loves me too. I watched my mother as tears streamed down my cheeks while I cleaned onto her hand.

“B.. but, mother..I love him so much.” I confess once again.

“I can't…just leave him if I have already fallen madly for him.”

“Oh, sweetheart.” She said with a shaky voice before she engulfed me into her embrace.

“This isn't fair, you don't deserve this..I am sorry, honey.” I held onto her as I cried really hard.

I was in pain both physically and emotionally and I had no idea what I was going to do now. But there was a way out, I needed answers and the only person that could give them was Romano.

“Sophie?”

My heavy eyes started to peel open as I heard his mesmerizing thick voice echoing in the distance, it made a smile form on my face as my stomach was filled with butterflies. He had finally come, my heart raced as my ears caught his voice again and I just opened my eyes and expected to see him already. I wanted to get up and tell him that I love him so much because I felt as though I hadn't said it enough.

“Sophie?”

His voice was like a tune to my ears and I was never going to get tired of it because I loved it. The way he calls my name made me feel like I am the most beautiful woman on earth. How can someone like him be so doting and caring to me when he has the other side of him that everyone fears except me?

“Sophie?” My heart skips a beat again as my name rolls out of his tongue and it kills me.

“Sophie!” My body tensed up when his voice didn't really sound like before, in fact his exasperated voice bounced between the walls and it amused me. I opened my eyes and looked around, he was nowhere to be seen. I furrowed my brows and wondered why he was calling me like that. His voice seemed firm and agitated that it really haunted me because I have never heard him this desperate.

“Sophie, stop playing this game with me?”

What? My brows snapped into furrow again when I set my gaze around my surroundings, I didn't recognize where I was. How in the hell didn't I get here? As I wondered where I was, I began to search my surroundings with just my eyes and I saw that the windows were barricaded with metal so there was no life in the room. It also made the room windowless which encouraged the bundle of nerves to just kick in my stomach and devoured my inside. The whole room was filled with darkness and I don't like it one bit, the damp smell of the room was unbearable and it reeked of fresh blood which made my body suspen in apprehension.

“Sophie? Where the fúck are you? Stop playing this game and come out already!”

Soon, all my worries and nerves dissipated when I was able to feel the sensation my surroundings were providing me with but I was still beyond confused. The air was cold and just dirty, I was able to feel it. He called out again and I couldn't help but notice how he seemed very worried and agitated. It began to encourage my suspicion that none of this was going to end well. However, I convinced myself that everything was going to be alright because Romano is here and I felt safe.

“Quit playing this game with me, Sophie. I am being serious, please come out now.”

His deep hysterical voice reached closer to me as it had louder now, my headshot to the direction of where it was coming from and it was from the steel door. I got up as I heard his voice only to be plummeted back down when my back was in unbearable pain and it traveled through my spine as I endeavored to get up. I crawled to the door, and noticed there was a small window that revealed what was on the other side. I pulled myself up and glanced through it to see the most agonizing sight ever.

Romano came into my field of vision when I saw him on the floor on his knees with his shoulders slumped down in defeat as he sobbed into his hands and just shook his head. My mouth was left hanging open as I had no words to say. I really couldn't decipher this at all, the last I checked, he is the strongest person I know on the planet and I couldn't believe what I was witnessing. This had to be a nightmare, a dream that I don't like. I had to wake up because I just felt so helpless watching him crying his heart out, as if he had just lost something. Even in my dreams, I couldn't bear to see him hurt and it made my heart ache to see such a thing. He looked like he was in pain right now, and I would be the one to ease all of it once I wake up from this painful dream.

My body stiffened as I felt the cold uncomfortable breeze suddenly brushing against my skin. Goosebumps started to rise and nothing felt absolutely  good about this and I was terrified. Romano was crying right in front of me just foreshadowing everything and I was ready for what is to come. My body felt like it had been through hell as all I felt everywhere was pain and burns, the soreness of my muscles really affected me in a way that I was unable to move. I was stiff from just laying in one position that I failed to move away from the door and when I did, I landed on my back again. I finally managed to move my body around but to be only touched by another and that caused me to flinch in response. I was trembling as my gaze traveled to my right and instantly, horror filled me to the point where my breath stopped for a moment. One to another, my eyes quickly jumped to each one of them. A couple of cold blooded dead bodies.

My eyes left their sockets as counted six dead bodies scattered around me and to say that I was frightened was an understatement, I was beyond frightened. I was mortified actually that I thought I was going to pass out. Once I found my voice again, I tried to scream for help but nothing was heard. All the bodies were covered in flesh blood as I examined them with weak strength. I looked down to myself and instantly began to tremble with trepidation when I realized that I was too covered in blood. What is happening? I was going sick, I panicked as I wondered whose blood it was. Was it mine? I shook my head, to get rid of the  thought, it couldn't be mine. I may feel a lot of pain but I know I was dying.

As I put in the effort of sitting upright, I let out a very weak sigh as I felt pain all over my body once again, especially my arms and my ankles.

“Roman, I am here!” I screamed and crawled towards the door again as I glanced through the frame again to catch his attention. My echoes just bounced between the four walls of this room and it was impossible for it to reach out there.

My fists rolled up into a ball and slammed against the door but it did nothing and so did my calls for him. Even with all my strength, I failed to get his attention once again and he walked right past the door of the room I was in.
