Chapter 115: Fuck Family
Jaxon’s POV:
All I wanted to do after dropping Vicky off was return home to be with Elizabeth, because I didn't need a therapist to tell me I was addicted to her. She tasted so good. She smelled like life and was happiness personified; with her, I felt free and was finally capable of seeing life for what it was. Beautiful.
Elizabeth Sinclair had no idea the effect she had on me. If she had simply confirmed that she really missed me and wanted me back home, I would have walked out on my father and these investors just to be with her.
“What is it going to be, Jaxon?” Mr. Richmond asked with a stern look. My gaze shifted from him to Father, then to Talon and the other investors.
There were many willing to invest in the modified version of Talon’s project, but they wanted to know which company would be in charge: Voltex or Sinclair’s Group.
“Jaxon, that project belongs to—”
"Aren't you supposed to be on an island somewhere far away from here?" I raised a brow at my father, who was all talk about taking a retirement but was here minding the company's business as if I didn't know what I was doing.
“Actually, I am supposed to be there, but when you have two immature sons, you don’t get such privileges.”
I chuckled at his words and sighed before choosing to ignore him and turn my attention to Talon. “My little brother here did design the project with a lot of loopholes, but he won’t be the one working on it.” Talon’s jaw clenched, as if he had expected me to hand the modified project—and the investors—over to him like he was a baby.
“And rest assured, gentlemen, he can’t sue me for it.” I smirked, knowing full well he had presented the project as a product from Sinclair’s, and the fact that Caleb had presented the same work—but a modified version—would technically be termed plagiarism. But who was going to sue whom? I managed both companies, and I wasn't going to sue myself, was I?
“I don’t care to know about your family dramas, but I will only invest if you personally take charge of this project,” a female investor said, and I smiled.
“We will see. My assistant will reach out to you all, and I appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to be here.”
After we said our goodbyes, I was left in the Voltex conference room with just Father and Talon.
Talon stood up hastily, causing his chair to screech and hit the floor. Father stood up, glaring at him, while I remained calm because I had expected this outburst.
Talon might look composed, maintaining the demeanor of a perfect gentleman in a suit, but even I knew that one of us had to take over our grandfather—and if it wasn't me, it was him. Now, Talon had clearly lost his mind and was fuming.
“That’s my fucking project! You steal it with a smirk on your face, sit there proudly, and say I can’t sue you?”
I raised a brow because everything he said was exactly what I had done. “You want to manage that project?” I asked calmly, because contrary to appearances, my plan wasn't just to take his project.
All I wanted was for him to understand that while he might be good at developing his designs, he had zero knowledge of how business actually worked. He stared so hard at the "bright day" that he forgot there was another side to the brightness.
“I don’t fucking need your permission to manage my project!” he yelled. I closed my eyes for a moment before staring at him.
“Then get the fuck out of my company.”
“I will, but this isn’t over. I won’t let you come back to this country after the way you treated my parents, and take everything that belongs to me.”
“Like Elizabeth?”
“YES, SHE IS MINE!” He pushed the conference table, and I saw the vein in his forehead bulge as he stood there like someone I didn't recognize.
I was still so taken aback by his words that I didn't notice when Father pushed him and slammed his fist into Talon’s face. “Have you lost your mind?” he scolded. I stood there witnessing a side of my father that he had clearly inherited from my grandfather as well.
Talon laughed and stood straight, looking at our father with malice before using his arm to wipe the blood from his lips. “I am your son. I was the one who fucking stayed when your older son swore he didn’t want anything to do with you. I was the one who followed your orders when your older son said 'fuck family.'”
He glanced at me and chuckled painfully. “I was the one who was there for Beth when your older son was having fun, but who got everything at the end?”
“You are speaking nonsense right now. Get the fuck out and clear your mind.” Father pushed him again and pointed toward the door. Talon glared at me for a long second before turning and walking out of the office, pulling his phone out to call someone.
