Chapter 163 The Truth
Clara got up, brushed off her coat, and fixed her hair. "I need to talk to you."
"I don't know who you are, and I have nothing to say to you," Isla said, her chin up, ready to walk away.
Clara stepped closer. "Really? Isla, I'm your sisiter.!"
Isla clenched her fists and muttered, "Get in the car, now."
Clara hopped into the passenger seat, and Isla drove off.
Half an hour later, they pulled up by the seaside.
Isla glared at her. "What do you want?"
Clara grinned. "You're living it up with the York family. Shouldn't you help out Grandma, Mom, Dad, and me? We're stuck in a rundown neighborhood, barely scraping by. We only get two dishes per meal, and Grandma eats more than anyone."
Isla pulled out her phone. "I'll send you some money."
Clara's eyes lit up, and she quickly grabbed her phone.
Seeing $100,000 hit her account, she frowned. "Such a pittance was barely even half the value of my handbag."
Isla's eyes turned icy. "How much more do you want? If you start splurging, don't you think Alice will get suspicious? If it leads back to me, the Savoy family is done for. You're such an idiot!"
Clara wasn't backing down. "Do me a favor, and I won't bother you again."
Isla had a gut feeling this favor wouldn't be simple, but she really didn't want to deal with Clara. "What favor?"
"Introduce me to one of the four heirs of the York family."
Isla looked her up and down and burst out laughing, her eyes full of disdain. "With your looks and terrible reputation, why would any York man be interested in you? And you don't even have a uterus; no normal guy would choose you, let alone those four top-tier men."
Clara held back her anger. "How could you demean me in such a manner?"
Isla sneered. "I'm just telling the truth! Even a sixty-year-old bald, pot-bellied man wouldn't want you. I'm warning you, don't come to me again. Otherwise, you'll live miserably for the rest of your life. Get out of the car."
Clara's eyes turned red with anger. "You want me to walk back?"
Isla said coldly, "Don't make me say it twice."
Clara, though unwilling, was also scared of her and had to get out of the car.
Watching the taillights disappear into the night, she stomped her foot in anger.
Isla called Elodie.
"Odette, I miss you," Elodie answered.
Isla felt sick just thinking about her disgusting family.
But she was worried they might drag her down, so she had to coax them. She said softly, "Mom, how are you all doing?"
Elodie, not wanting to worry Odette, said, "We're all fine, and Clara is fine too. Don't worry."
"RMom, are you lying to me? Clara just came to see me, saying you only have two dishes per meal. I couldn't stand it, so I sent her $100,000. Mom, even though I'm with the York family, I didn't dare to ask them for money. This is all I can do for now, but I'll give you more next time."
Elodie was shocked. "What? Clara went to see you? That idiot, she really wants to ruin you! Odette, don't worry; Clara won't bother you again."
Isla sobbed. "Mom, I really want to help you. Please wait a little longer, okay? I will definitely restore the Savoy family's glory."
"I know you're a good kid. As long as you're doing well, that's all that matters."
After painting a rosy picture of the future, Isla hung up the phone. Her eyes turned cold and fierce as she floored the gas pedal.
Clara walked until her legs felt like they were going to give out before she finally reached a taxi stand. She took a cab home.
Looking at the old neighborhood, she particularly missed the days of living in a villa and enjoying a luxurious life.
She sniffled and went upstairs. As soon as she opened the door, a slap landed on her face.
Clara looked at Elodie in shock, and behind Elodie stood Zoey and Lester.
"Mom, are you out of your mind? Why you slapped me?" she shouted, holding her face.
Elodie, seething with anger, pointed at her and yelled, "Why did you go see Odette? How did you even know about her?"
Clara fumed. "A few days ago, I overheard you and Dad talking! We're fraternal twins, so why does she get such a good life while I'm stuck with the Savoy family? And Alice is actually a York family child! I hate it so much!"
Zoey, feeling sorry for Clara, who had grown up by her side, stepped forward and held her hand. "Clara, if you want to blame someone, blame me. I randomly picked one to swap with Alice back then."
Clara pulled her hand away. "If only you had chosen me back then. Why do I have to live a life worse than death now!"
Lester raised his hand and slapped her again. "Ungrateful! We've raised you for twenty years, and you say such heartless things."
Clara looked at the three people in front of her, her eyes bloodshot. "I hate you all!"
She ran out of the house in rage.
Elodie, though angry, looked at Lester. "Go after her; don't let anything happen to her."
When Lester went out, he saw Clara getting into a taxi and leaving.
He couldn't get a cab himself and called Clara, but her phone was off.
He was worried sick about Clara and shook his head as he went back upstairs.
Elodie asked, "Where's Clara?"
"She took a cab and left. I couldn't get a cab. She is already an adult; having endured so many hardships, she ought to have her limits."
In the night, those who were down often like to drown their sorrows in alcohol.
Clara sat in a bar, drinking alone.
"Hey beautiful, drinking alone? How about I join you?" A blond man sat next to her.
Clara took a sip of her drink and looked at him. He was very handsome, which made her heart flutter.
Because of her pregnancy and miscarriage, she hadn't had sex for a long time and naturally missed it.
So she boldly flirted with the man, and they quickly ended up in a hotel together.
Just as they were getting to the crucial moment, the man said, "Want to try something new?"
Clara asked, "What?"
The man took out a white packet. "Try this; it'll make you forget all your troubles and feel incredibly elated."
Clara asked, "Really?"
"Of course, you'll know once you try it."
So they did drugs together and then had sex, feeling extremely satisfied.
Bluewater Bay.
Henry came out of the shower and saw Alice lying on her side on the bed. He knelt on the bed and leaned over to kiss her neck. "Alice."
Alice pushed him away. "Henry, I'm a bit tired."
Henry stopped. This was the first time Alice had refused him, so she must be really worn out.
He kissed her cheek. "Alright, then sleep well."
