Chapter 21: Flashbacks
July, 2017.
The sun was hot on the first month of summer in Korea. The classes had ended and the students were already on their own planned vacation, enjoying the days where they didn't have to study. Kara knocked on your door in series before she barge in fully dressed and all dolled up.
She held a lunch box in her hand as she stood at the center of your room that looks like a disaster. Jackets, pizza box and socks were scattered on the floor while your tangled up with your blanket that's almost kissing the floor.
Your eyes flutter open, heavy as you remember what time you went to bed last night or maybe earlier this morning after watching videos of your favorite boy group.
"Get up, Mom wants us to deliver Dad's lunch at his office." She said as she smile at you, slightly pulling the blanket away from you.
Your face crumpled as you roll over your bed, facing your back at her. "Go away." You groan as you wave her away.
She chuckled and shook her head. "Alright, sleepy head. Eat some decent meal okay? Not just pizza." She said before she head out of your room and you continue your sleep and snoring.
Kara had to take the subway to get to her father's law firm office. She waited at the lobby while the receptionist contacted your father. She held the lunchbox tightly when she noticed a group of men laughing at a distance.
They were wearing black suits and carrying black suitcase, one hand occupied with a cup of coffee. Kara figured they were lawyers of this law firm, her dad's colleague. In the middle of the men in black suits, stood a man with white suit, he seemed older than the others. He wasn't holding a suitcase nor a coffee cup, he was just there talking to them with a graceful smile on his face.
He screams of respect but not the way lawyers do. Kara tilted her head, he was actually kind of familiar to her. Maybe she saw him on a flyer or something.
While trying to remember where she had seen him, her gaze went to a figure not too far away from that group. There stood a boy, probably around her age, with his arms crossed against his chest and leaning on the wall. He was playing with a car keys in his hand as his face displayed boredom at this white tiled room.
His jet black hair stood out the most, his height was very attractive and his broad shoulders looked more good on the white and blue striped long sleeves button up that he wore. She blushed when she saw his eyes caught her.
She wished for you to be there so she could share her thoughts about this guy. So that both of you could slap each other's arms as you both admire his majestic face.
"Actually, Governor, the lawyers that are handling that case are working hard to solve it." Kara heard one of the men in suit said, his smile wide as he look at the man in the middle.
Kara's eyes widen when she realized what he said and where he was looking at. She knew he was familiar! He was the governor! And who is the boy near them? He is too young to be here.
"I'm glad you are all working hard to prove him guilty and to indict him. He caused enough death to this town." The governor said patting the arm of the guy near him.
"Ms. Kara? Your father is waiting for you at his office now." The receptionist called that made Kara jump.
She stood up to her feet and turned to the receptionist. Kara gave her thanks to the receptionist and turned to the elevator but she caught the boy gazing at her one last time before the elevator closes.
She sighed, he was one of the most beautiful boy she ever met at her entire life. And what are the chances that they'll meet again? Probably none.
Late August, 2017.
Kara decided to go to the bookstore today at the center of the town and you decided to tag along to buy yourself some school supplies since the school year is about to start. Kara was thrilled about it since you rarely get out of your bed this summer.
The moment you step inside the book store, you both fell in love at the smell of notebooks and pencils. You walk on different aisle and soon lost each other, you went to the notebook section and started to pick notebooks of your own choice while Kara went to the paint and brushes section.
She bent down to see the brushes more when she notice a man walking at the side of the aisle and stopping in front of her. She slowly gaze up and saw a pair of long legs that belonged to a man with jet black hair.
Her mouth agape. She almost drop the brush that she was holding when she realized that it was the same boy at the law firm!
"I knew I wasn't just seeing things." He said. His low voice sent chills running down her spine.
She avoided his gaze as she felt her cheeks going hot at the sight of him. She took the brushes she needed and was about to leave the aisle when the boy blocked her way. She look up at him, his eyes were piercing at her.
"I'm not about to beat around the bush here, I'm Kim Taehyung and I'd like to ask for your number." He said.
Kara's cheeks only grew hotter at his bold move. This beautiful boy is asking for her number. He only saw her for the second time and yet he's asking for her number already! But would she let this chance go?
She knew she's attracted to this boy. With his crazy looks, she couldn't deny it. So why won't she give him her number? Besides, its great to know a stranger, right?
A handsome stranger, yeah right.
So after she type her number in his phone she silently excuse herself, throwing him her last glance as she walk away. She sees him staring at her walking away.
Kara grabs your arm when she sees you at the counter paying for your notebooks and pens. You turn at her with brows furrowed, you saw how flushed she is. You tried to ask her what was wrong but she only replied a wide grin.
Early September, 2017.
Kara wakes up to the notification sound of her phone. Her eyes squints as she pick it up and saw Kim Taehyung's name on her screen. He's been messaging her non stop since the day she gave him her number.
She learns that he leaves at the opposite side of the town and the son's governor which he wasn't really that proud of. Kara was glad about that fact because she had thought that simple fact could affect them and make her feel small but it turns out, Taehyung doesn't see it as a big deal.
The class had started last week and Taehyung has been asking Kara about her schedule since then to meet her after weeks. But Kara only gave him the schedule today, she's still in doubt because she hasn't told you about Taehyung yet and she was afraid you'd catch her red-handedly meeting with a boy.
But you said you'd be home early for today to watch an award show so she decided to finally give it to him.
She was nervous all day and was thinking about all the things that could happen today. She kept thinking about Kim Taehyung.
And the moment she step out of her building, she saw him leaning at a car wearing his uniform. He waves his hand when he sees her. Kara run her fingers through her hair as she smiled at him.
"How's school?" He asked like it was a normal thing when it was the first time they saw each other after they met at the book store.
"Fine. My sister went home early today." She smiled at him.
He nodded. He didn't knew that you were twins. He just thought that she had a younger sister. Kara didn't tell him she had a twin.
He opened the passenger seat of the car and let you in. She slide down the seat and waited for him. He drove to the middle of the town and stopped to a restaurant that serves tea and meals.
"You know the second time I saw you at the law firm, I thought I wouldn't see you again." Taehyung suddenly said in the middle of the silence.
Kara smiled at his thoughts. "So I told myself if I ever see you again, I would really just go for it and ask for your number." He said as he smile cheekily.
Kara almost laugh at his grin when she realized something. Everything was so right with what he's saying at the same time it was all wrong. He said it was the second time he saw her at the law firm but it was her first time seeing him there. He asked for her number at the bookstore so that means it was the third time he saw her but Kara only met him twice!
Could it be? Did Taehyung met you first before Kara? Did he saw you first before her?
That thought alone kept her preoccupied the whole hour she was with Taehyung. The mere thought that you caught his attention first made her think about so many things. You were supposed to be with Kara at the law firm that day, what if he saw you there?
You were also with her at the bookstore, what if he asked for your number instead? She froze, everything would change if she wasn't there. The whole story would change if you were just there. The whole story would change if he knew that there was you and not just Kara.
