Chapter 19: Not to be Provoked
People couldn't see his face clearly, but Bethany could vaguely recognize his voice. She thought, "It sounded like Stanley's."
Just as Bethany was guessing, someone in the crowd exclaimed, "This license plate number looks familiar. It's Mr. Harper's car!"
This was undoubtedly shocking. Clinton froze on the spot.
Not just him, everyone was silenced by the revelation.
Bethany didn't socialize much, so she didn't know much about Stanley, but the others present were well aware.
This gentleman had only returned to the country a few days ago, and few people had seen him, but everyone in the upper class knew him.
He was the heir of the Harper family, one of three major families in the city. Even prominent families like the Riddle family had to pay respect to Stanley.
Despite his anger, under the pressure of power, Clinton could only force a smile and apologize to Stanley, "So it's Mr. Harper. I didn't know it was you just now, sorry for disturbing you."
Everyone mistook Vincent for Stanley.
Vincent didn't clarify but casually held the steering wheel and asked Clinton, "How do you plan to handle the scratches on my car?"
At these words, the people present showed complex expressions.
It was he who had hit Clinton's car, and before Clinton had even demanded compensation, Vincent, the instigator, was asking for it.
Someone felt that he was shameless.
However, despite everyone knowing the truth, no one dared to stand up for Clinton.
They didn't think Stanley lacked money.
He was just drunk and wanted to trouble Clinton.
Clinton's face darkened with anger. He was one of the top figures in the circle and had never been humiliated like this before.
But he couldn't afford to offend the heir of the Harper family.
Unable to endure it any longer, Bethany stepped forward and said, "It's your fault. Why should we compensate you?"
Vincent looked at Bethany and laughed insolently, "Ask these people, in Klodon City, who has the final say?"
Someone quickly came up to flatter him. "Mr. Harper, of course."
Bethany glanced at Clinton. With his dark expression, he remained silent.
This was reality.
Bethany didn't expect the refined doctor to have this side to him. Her voice turned cold. "So what if you are powerful? Are you above the law?"
Vincent squinted and glanced at Clinton. "What, are you going to challenge me in court?"
At these words, Clinton took a deep breath inwardly. With Stanley's political background, if Clinton were to confront him head-on, Clinton would lose.
He pulled Bethany behind him and pretended to say indifferently, "Mr. Harper, of course we won't sue you. It's just a car. There's no need to make such a fuss. You shouldn't lower yourself to her level."
Vincent said lightly, "This woman is not ordinary."
Clinton turned back to give Bethany a dark look. Bethany lowered her eyes, feeling somewhat panicked.
He continued to flatter Vincent, and the others joined in to smooth things over. In the end, Vincent relented. "Let's just call it a day. In the future, when you see my car, steer clear, understand?"
"Yes, of course!" Clinton bowed and saw Vincent off.
As the car passed by Bethany, she heard a light laugh from the man, seemingly mocking and disdainful.
The cold wind brushed Bethany's cheek, and her eyes harbored a chilly resentment.
Stanley was not simple.
