Chapter 79
Reagan point of view
He gained his balance, landing on the ground. His hazel orb quickly darted to her, his Aderyn. Reagan's eyes narrowed as he found her in the arms of the Hybrid King. He couldn't help but breathe a sigh of sheer relief.
His shining dark eyes fell on the twin witch approaching him. He tilted his head very slowly, watching her approach. She wore that look people wore when approaching an enemy. The devil breathed again, knowing full well his cover was blown.
"Traitor!" she snarled at him. He had a guess this was the useless, hotheaded one, Thea.
The devil remained silent. As soon as she approached him, he lunged at her without hesitating.
"I'll rip off your head and hang it on the golden gates of hell," she sneered, but the devil barely chuckled at her threats.
He dodged her attack, grabbing her by the neck and then crashing her onto the ground. As easily as she landed, Reagan held her up with his power, using his force to grip her heart. He didn't place a finger on her; he let his magic do its work, crushing her insides as she felt the air in her lungs go empty. She felt suffocation grip her, greeted by the cursed pain in her heart being crushed. Reagan's gaze took in the massive number of intruders, both witches and wolves, that rushed into the fight. His eyes pinned on Aderyn fighting the other twin. He muffled out some curses.
A creepy smile stalked his lips as he was about to pull the thin line holding her life.
A growling rumble sent his efforts to waste. Reagan lost his balance, stumbling on the ground at the rumbling. His hazel orbs searched around and scanned the lifeless bodies of the intruders that suddenly covered the earth at the rumbling that echoed. Slowly, his eyes fell on a giant black wolf standing on its hind legs. It was huge, many sizes bigger than the regular rogue wolves he had been condemned to work with. The wolf's eyes glowed with rage and more rage.
The devil could tell those powerful growls came from that wolf. Then, before his eyes, the wolf shifted into that person—the Hybrid, after all.
The devil fell back toward the twin witch he had almost killed, but she was gone. Swiftly, he turned his gaze to Aderyn, searching for the other twin, but she was gone, too. He cursed again under his breath, moving toward the little witch.
"Alpha, they are all dead," Travis said, coming out of the trees with his pants on.
"Aderyn. We need to talk." Reagan strutted to her side.
"I was thinking you'd be smart enough to run along with your friends," Dylan quickly intercepted.
Aderyn point of view
"Aderyn. We need to talk." I turned to look at Reagan. Yes, we really needed to talk. I had questions—plenty of them—and more importantly, why was he here with people who were after my life? Reagan couldn't be working with Raina, right?
Before I could respond to him, Dylan stepped forward, standing between me and Reagan.
"I was thinking you'd be smart enough to run along with your friends," he said in a menacing voice. It was deep and much more terrifying, screaming rage and power. Well, I didn't blame him; he was actually pissed at Reagan for kissing me.
"I'm not here for you, Hybrid. I'm here for her," Reagan answered back, still having his nonchalant smirk on, almost as if he was enjoying everything that was happening. Dylan growled again, but before he could do something drastic, I held him back with the help of Travis.
Dylan threw me a look which clearly said Reagan was the enemy here and shouldn't be trusted. Again, Dylan was right, and I also knew Reagan could be a lot of things, but I knew he'd never hurt me.
"Why are you here, Reagan?" I broke the tensed air.
"He's here to kill you, that's what," Dylan scoffed, shooting him an incredulous look which Reagan still remained indifferent to.
"He's right, Aderyn, but not about the killing part. Actually, I'm here to kidnap you and bring you back either unharmed or barely alive," he said with a straight face, looking me dead in the eyes.
Dylan scoffed. A second later, the pack guards found us. They circled around us—at Reagan, to be precise—about to take him, but I stepped forward.
"Wait, Dylan!"
"Come on, Aderyn, he's here for you. He's an enemy and I'm being pretty considerate to you by not tearing him apart right here, you know." Dylan was vibrating with anger.
"Then he would have done that already," I told him, stepping between his deathly stares.
Reagan muttered something under his breath that Dylan heard loudly. He growled again. I saw his patience was exhausted, and Reagan wasn't really making things easier.
"Who sent you?" I asked the next question bugging me, even though I already knew who that bitch might be.
"I think you know that already. It's Raina. She's the one that wants you," Reagan bored deeply into me.
"Then you do work for the enemy." Morgan moved closer, his eyes not leaving Reagan.
Reagan threw him a silent stare before it fell on me. I could also tell this witch's patience too was slowly being exhausted. He wanted to tell me something.
"What is it, Reagan? Tell me."
"You are in grave danger here, especially by this wolf's side," he stated, sounding annoyed.
Dylan ran his fingers through his dark hair as if taming his rage. "Take him away. I'll personally see to him," Dylan commanded the pack guards.
Reagan's gaze followed the first guard that moved to his side. With a raise of his finger, he raised the guard up. I quickly took in his next thought, and that was to kill.
Defensively, I stepped in between them, halting Reagan from harming the guard. "Relexa utinum." I halted the magic that Reagan had on the guard, releasing him. "Enough of this!" I snapped at Reagan, showing him I clearly disapproved of hurting anyone.
He rolled his eyes. "They'll send more and more after you. She won't relent, especially now they both know I've betrayed them. You of all people know what that means." I saw the fleck of seriousness in his eyes.
"'They.' You said 'they.' Who's they?" Dylan stepped forward, but Reagan's gaze barely blinked from mine, ignoring Dylan.
There was a threatening sound vibrating from Dylan that even caused his wolves to whimper. "Answer him, Reagan."
Reagan sighed angrily. "The Blood Stone King. He wants you, Aderyn, and so does Raina."
I was shocked at the words that left his lips. My eyes quickly found Dylan's grave amber eyes.
"That bastard Nikola and Raina are both working together." Travis circled around as Reagan threw him a look that meant 'Bingo.' "Fuck! That's more complicated than I thought," Travis slowly muttered to himself.
"And you are working for both the enemies..." Dylan turned to me. "...I'm sorry, Aderyn, why haven't we killed him yet? He's a bloody enemy. It's literally carved in him. I can't let him leave here alive knowing he works for the two bastards standing against us." Dylan's amber eyes had diluted in anger, and there was nothing I could say that would probably get him to let Reagan live, at least not in this state.
I remained silent, making Dylan's orbs harden more in frustration. "Travis!" Dylan boomed in a strong, superior tone. "Take him. I'll join soon."
Travis stared at him, then back at me.
"Aderyn. I'm not going anywhere, not unless you come with me." Reagan's voice and demeanor still remained calm, irrespective of what was going on. Well, typical him. But unfortunately, every single thing he did ended up pushing Dylan deeper into the pit of fury lava.
"Fuck! Who told you, mutt, that was ever an option?" Dylan growled, sending a hard punch at Reagan. But Reagan was quick to dodge it.
Reagan looked past Dylan at me. "I'm here solely to protect you, Aderyn. And you know that. Come with me or she'll come get you herself."
Dylan growled again.
"I can't. I just can't, Reagan. I belong here, here with them."
