The end?
The end?
Chapter 170
Ruby’s POV
I could almost taste the satisfaction of finally having Tautia’s death right in my hand on my tongue. I was already imagining myself telling the whole story to Thane with excitement while we laid in bed after a hot session, sipping on some wine and laughing about how I finally ended the bastard.
Killing Tautia right now was the only thing that mattered as it would immediately give us better chances of winning this whole war with the shadow realm once and for all.
I wanted him dead so bad I could feel my own blood boiling with the intensity of the flames I was throwing at him. I was so focused on his screams and enjoying the way his shadows were shriveling up under my flames.
But like I said earlier, I forgot one tiny detail. One stupid detail that I should have seen coming …it was the lady dressed all in black from head to toe that had walked out of the dark minutes ago just to whisper something to Tautia. I had completely pushed her out of my mind like she wasn't even a threat anymore and that was a massive mistake on my part. I was so caught up in watching Tautia suffer that I failed to see her crawl up behind me.
All I heard was the sickening wet sound of something sharp piercing right through my body, it was that kind of the wet snap of skin breaking followed by the slow drip…drip…drip of blood hitting the cold floor.
‘’Ahhh..’’ a low gasp left my lips as the pain ran through my entire system in a split second. My hands were still in front of me and keeping the coocon burning but my head slowly bent down to take a look at my midsection.
There was a protruding tip of a spear sticking out of me, and I could tell right away it was made wholly from magic and I knew that spear. I could immediately tell it was an elf’s weapon, because I had seen Ash make something exactly like those when we would play around with arrows back in the vampire realm.
My eyes danced all over the dark runes that ran through the body of the spear as it glowed a jade green from soaking up my blood, and I couldn't deny it anymore… these spears looked exactly like the ones Ash had made back then.
I couldn’t hold my body up any longer. My legs just gave out like they had no strength left in them and my hands fell down to my sides as the fire flickered out as I went toppling to the ground in a heap with my head hitting the cold floor with a bang that made my vision bounce in circles.
My body slowly began getting colder and colder the more my blood flowed right out of my now open chest. The spear was sticking right through me and near the point where my heart lay, and I could feel the warm red puddle of my blood slowly forming right around me on the stone.
‘’Why?’’ That was all I could make myself croak through my clogged throat at the figure dressed all in black as she heartlessly walked over my weak frame. She didn't even look like she cared that I was bleeding out right there as all she did was pause to look me right in the eye for one last time before she turned back around and then stalked away with her back to me.
From where I was laying on the floor, I could see as she walked to my fire cocoon. Without my focus, the flames were already dwindling with the intensity reducing second by second until it was just smoke. This was followed by a huge bang as Tautia already sensing the fire was weak broke out of the cocoon desperately.
I watched as he stumbled out, falling in a heap in front of the dark elf dressed in black. He looked like he was half an inch from death's door with his skin charred and he didn't even seem capable of summoning his shadows anymore.
The dark elf rushed towards him, her back bending as she immediately helped him to stand with her being his frame of support. I remained on the ground feeling my strength leave me by the second with the world turning black at the edges of my vision. I was loosing blood fast but I wasn't going to go out without a fight… I wasn't going to let them just walk away.
Without even thinking, I summoned my flames again and this time with all of the strength that was left inside of me, praying it would be enough to take them both down.
‘’Arrrrrhhhhhh!!!!’’ I growled out loud, the sound ripping through my throat as I felt the darkness swooping in from the corners of my eyes.
A ball of flame grew massive right in front of my face as I watched Tautia and the dark elf hurriedly make their way toward the wall closest to them. I was not going to let them escape…
‘’Burnnnn!!!!’’ I screeched, my voice bouncing off the walls in an echo. The flames went hurling straight for the two distant figures, but before my fire could even touch them, I watched as they both turned their backs to the wall and it clicked in my head right then …that was how to get out of the illusion this whole time. You had to exit with your back turned to the wall.
My flame ball was a tad bit slow. The second their backs touched the wall, the illusion began to crumble in a look of grey mist and then revealing the real interior of the actual hotel this time.
Shit. That was all I could mumble as the two figures immediately disappeared into a cloud of dark smoke.
My flame ball went flying past where they had been, connecting instead with a huge pillar that held the real hotel up. It didn't just stop there as the explosion took three other pillars in the same row down with a deafening blast. Right before my eyes, the building that had stood so strong began to crumble.
‘’I need to get up…’’ I gasped, my teeth grinding together so hard I thought they might snap as I tried to ignore the spear sticking through my chest. ‘’Arrrrhhh!!’’ Moving was basically impossible. Every tiny twitch just aggravated the injury and sending sparks of sharp pain everywhere and making my head spin.
My hand flew down with a gasp, calling upon my flames as I touched the magic spear. I used the flames heat to dissolve the weapon, which worked but it left a gaping large hole right in the center of my chest and the hotel kept falling apart around me with huge boulders and heavy glass chandeliers crashing down in heaps and kicking off dust.
The very foundation of the place began to shake and I was nowhere near getting myself off the floor to make a run for it. My whole situation got worse as my head suddenly felt light, like all the blood had drained out at once, and I went falling back on my back. My hands weren't even able to hold me up anymore.
I laid there, staring up at the cracked ceiling with the world turning into a blurry look from the dust that got into my eyes but I could hear the screams of people in other parts of the building, but they felt far away.
‘’Is this the end for me?’’ I whispered to the splashing pieces of rock that hit me in the face and legs and as everything collapsed around me, I realized I didn't feel like dying yet. It felt unfair. I still wanted to have more time with Thane, and the little kid who calls me mom in the dragon spirit realm.
I wanted to see my dad, see Lucas again, and most importantly, I wanted to ask Ash why she would betray me like this. I wanted to look her in the eye and make her tell me why she put a spear in my heart…just why. Tears slid down the sides of my cheeks to my ear.
It seemed my time had finally come to an end, whether I liked it or not as I looked up and sighted a very huge boulder from the ceiling withshart wooden spikes attached to it, falling straight down and headed right for my head.
I couldn't move my legs, I couldn't run and I couldn't even roll out of the way even if i wanted to. All I could do was snap my eyes shut and brace myself for the pain of the impact and only hoping it would be over fast.
