Chapter 81
Chapter Eighty-Two:
Crossing the Enemy.
"I love you too," Emily replied, smiling up at him. "But we have to be careful. Who knows what other enemies we might have made?"
Ethan nodded, his eyes scanning their surroundings. "You're right. We'll have to keep our guard up."
As they walked, they heard footsteps behind them. They turned around to see a group of men approaching them.
"Looks like you two are in trouble again," one of them sneered.
Emily's heart sank. They had just finished one fight, and now they were facing another.
But Ethan didn't falter. He stood in front of Emily, ready to defend her. "We're not afraid of you," he said firmly.
The men laughed, but Ethan didn't back down. He lunged forward, throwing punches and kicks with precision.
Emily watched in awe as Ethan took down their attackers one by one. She knew that he was a skilled fighter, but she had never seen him in action before.
In no time, the men were lying on the ground, groaning in pain. Ethan and Emily walked away unscathed.
As they got into their car, Emily couldn't help but feel grateful for Ethan's bravery and strength. "You're amazing," she said, looking at him with admiration.
Ethan smiled, but his eyes were still on high alert. "We have to be careful. I don't want anything to happen to you."
Emily nodded, understanding the danger they were in. But she also knew that with Ethan by her side, they could face anything.
As they drove away, Emily couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. They had faced their enemies and come out on top. And with Ethan as her husband by contract and protector, she knew that they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.
But their victory was short-lived as they received a phone call from an unknown number.
Ethan picked up the call, his voice low and cautious. "Who is this?"
A deep, gravelly voice answered. "You don't know me, but I know you, Ethan. And I know your wife."
Emily's heart skipped a beat as she listened to the conversation.
"You and your wife have made a grave mistake by crossing me," the voice continued. "You will pay for your arrogance."
Ethan's grip on the phone tightened. "Who are you? What do you want?"
The voice chuckled. "You'll find out soon enough. But let me give you a warning. Stay out of my way, or you will regret it."
The line went dead, and Ethan threw the phone on the dashboard in frustration.
"What are we going to do?" Emily asked, her voice trembling.
Ethan's eyes narrowed, and his jaw clenched. "We have to find out who this guy is and take him down before he comes after us."
Emily nodded determination in her eyes. "We'll do it together."
They spent the next few days investigating, looking for any clues that would lead them to their unknown enemy. They visited dark alleys, and shady bars, and even hacked into some computer systems.
Finally, they found a name - Victor Valdez. He was a wealthy businessman who had made a fortune through illegal means. He had ties to the criminal underworld and was feared by many.
Ethan and Emily knew that they had to tread carefully. They couldn't just barge into his mansion and demand answers. They needed a plan.
And that's when Emily had an idea. "Let's throw a party."
"A party?" Ethan asked, confused.
Emily nodded. "Yes, a party. Victor is a wealthy businessman, and he loves to attend high-end events. If we throw a party, he'll come to us."
Ethan thought about it for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Alright. Let's do it."
The party was a lavish affair, with champagne flowing, live music, and delicious food. Ethan and Emily mingled with the guests, trying to find Victor in the crowd.
And then, they saw him. He was wearing an expensive suit and had a smug look on his face.
Emily nudged Ethan, and they made their way toward him.
"Hello, Victor," Emily said a smile on her face. "So glad you could make it."
Victor looked at her with a sneer. "What do you want, little girl?"
Emily's smile didn't falter. "I want to talk to you. In private."
Victor's eyebrows rose in amusement. "Oh? And what makes you think I want to talk to you?"
"Because we have something you want," Ethan interjected, stepping forward. "And we're willing to make a deal."
Victor's interest was piqued. "What kind of deal?"
Emily pulled out a file from her purse and handed it to him. "This contains evidence of all your illegal activities. If we take this to the authorities, you'll be behind bars for the rest of your life."
Victor's face paled as he looked through the file. "You can't do this to me," he said, his voice shaking.
"We can," Ethan said firmly. "But we're willing to make a deal. You leave us alone, and we'll keep this file locked away."
Victor hesitated for a moment before nodding. "Fine. You win. I'll leave you alone."
Ethan and Emily exchanged a look, knowing that they had won the battle. They had faced their enemy and come out on top.
As the party continued, Emily and Ethan couldn't help but feel relieved. They had managed to outsmart Victor and protect themselves from any further threats.
But just as they were about to let their guard down, they heard a loud noise coming from outside.
Emily rushed to the window and gasped at the sight before her. Victor's men had arrived, armed and dangerous.
"We have to get out of here," Ethan said, grabbing Emily's hand.
They made their way to the back exit, hoping to escape unnoticed. But as they opened the door, they were met with a group of armed men.
"Well, well, well," Victor said, stepping forward. "Looks like you thought you could outsmart me. But you were wrong."
Ethan and Emily stood their ground, ready to fight if necessary.
"You don't scare us," Emily said, her voice steady.
Victor laughed. "You should be scared. You have no idea who you're dealing with."
And with that, the men rushed towards them, guns at the ready.
Ethan and Emily fought back with all their might, using their martial arts skills to take down their attackers. But they were outnumbered, and soon they found themselves backed into a corner.
Just as all hope seemed lost, they heard the sound of police sirens outside.
Victor's men scattered, realizing they were outnumbered. Ethan and Emily looked at each other, relieved to have made it out alive.
As they left the party, they knew that their fight wasn't over yet. They still had to be careful and stay one step ahead of their enemies.
But for now, they were just glad to be alive and together.
"I'm so proud of you," Ethan said, taking Emily's hand.
"And I'm proud of you," Emily replied, a smile on her face. "Together, we can face anything."
