Chapter 41: Chapter 41
Elara's POV
I entered the large hall where there was a lot of dancing and smooching. Darting a glance around my table, I discovered Matt wasn't anywhere in sight as I made my way over.
Taking my seat, I turned the rest of our Kir Royal into my glass and took a big sip.
At the realization that even Davis and the redhead weren't onsite, my face flushed, my stomach churning in dread by what I supposed they most likely were doing.
Hell, even some couples were doing it right on the dancefloor, how much more Davis, especially that the red head had wanted to swallow him in since their arrival earlier.
I swallowed a lump that was beginning to clog my chest. I wished I was anywhere but here.
I allowed my eyes to wander over, around the crowd and instantly averted my gaze back to my glass. Right on the dance floor, some couples were fucking.
The fact that the candle light and the soft amber gleaming on the wall didn't light the room brightly exposed what their intention had been from the onset.
Surely, there were cabins in the yacht for them to carry out their meandering.
“Hi.”
I swivelled around to meet the eyes of one of the men that had been staring wantonly at me.
“Mm… hi.” I answered, unsure what he wanted.
A quick scan confirmed my thoughts that Corian hadn't returned here. He most definitely has a boat prepared to sail the moment he requested it.
“Your husband isn't here.” The man chipped slowly, his eyes gently wandering down my body.
“And so is your wife.” I gritted.
“Ah. Actually, she isn't my wife.” He allowed.
“Oh. You left your wife at home?” I taunted, fixing a smile on my face that caused the man to wince.
“She's disposed and unable to come.” He answered, flustered.
Looking as though he wanted to disappear, I made up my mind to make it more difficult for him.
“And you're here because…?”
“Huh… I wanted to ask you to dance since you're sitting pretty here all by yourself, while your husband's over there…” He nudged towards a corridor that led to the restrooms. “... having the time of his life with our patron's date.” The man finished, his lips curled in an irritating grin.
My face reddened immediately, not sure how to get out of this hurdle.
“I'm merely here to help you save face…” He continued. “But–”
“If you don't disappear now, I assure you, you won't be able to hide your face, not to talk of saving it!” A low timbre voice growled from behind.
The man jumped and crossed over anxiously, not daring to meet mine nor Davis’ eyes which glared as though he was about to put his fist through the man's nose.
I sat on my seat, knowing that our little tirade had somehow caught the attention of some of the guests as they turned to us.
“Relax. You'll soon be forgotten.” Davis grunted with a gaunt expression as he took his seat where Matt long vacated.
“People will gossip.” I quipped, darting my gaze across the room.
“Leave them.” Davis murmured.
“What a show today…” I began wryly, after a pause.
“Ah… It's my pleasure.” He mused, deliberately missing the point.
“My room underwent a hauling yesterday.”
“I see. I thought that since I'll definitely be needing my room back to myself today, I better find a way to turn your situation around.” He rasped, his eyes stayed on mine.
“Thank you.” I murmured.
He shrugged, but remained quiet.
“I don't see your date around.” I said finally.
“What is it you want to hear, Elara?” He asked idly, leaning on the armrest of the chair he sat. His elbow dangled precariously over the edge, and he propped his right boot over his left knee.
“Mm- I…”
“If you want to know what she's about, I bet you can if you really visit the rest room this time.”
Startled, I turned anxious eyes at him. “You knew I didn't go to the rest room?” I asked.
Smiling, Davis purred in a way that had me grimacing. “I saw you slipped in the opposite direction.”
“And…?” I prompted.
“And what?” He asked suspiciously.
Letting out a breathless laughter, I relaxed visibly at the confirmation that he hadn't suspected I was associated with Corian.
“Needed the air.” I explained, averting my gaze.
“I see.” He murmured.
Then from nowhere, when I wasn't even expecting, Matt appeared scowling. His shirt looked crooked, his bowtie askew and his zipper worn out. His lips were also swollen and smudged with a gloss.
“Matt's approaching.” I rasped.
“Let him.” Davis croaked.
“Won't you return to your table? I bet your date will be out at any moment as well…”
As I spoke, Davis’ redhead strolled out of the corridor, looking all flushed and pert as approached unashamedly.
“Pops, are you keeping my wife company because of my quick visit to the loo? Matt drawled.
I opened my mouth incredulously at Matt's effrontery. No pretense whatsoever.
The red-head appeared too just as Davis arose. She immediately came closer to perch on his arm while her eyes stared me down.
“I see you've met my son, Anne.” Davis allowed his eyes staring at me steadily.
“Ah, yes.” She voiced, then she tugged Davis ear and bent to whisper into it loud enough for me to hear. “But it's you I really want to get to know better.”
Flushed, Matt brightened deep red. Davis made their excuse and returned to his seat.
“It's not what you think, baby.” Matt explained, drawing his chair closer to me.
“Matt, not only did you disrespect me before everyone, you–”
“She came into me, okay.” He whispered frantically. “I was frustrated and wanted to let out some steam. I couldn't possibly ask that of you here now, can I? Who better than my father's whore?”
