Chapter 148: Dreams Are Dreams

Arthur, exhausted and still shaken by the recent revelations, eventually settles into Mayara's lap. The comfort and her presence provide a momentary relief, and wrapped in a sense of security, he drifts off to sleep. Mayara, feeling the weight of Arthur on her lap and the accumulated fatigue, also falls asleep right there.

Guilherme and Sabrina arrive at Halley Mansion and, upon entering, find the cozy scene of Arthur and Mayara sleeping together. Guilherme smiles softly, touched by the sight of the two seeking comfort in each other amidst the chaos surrounding them. Sabrina, on the other hand, cannot help but feel a mix of concern and tenderness at seeing them so vulnerable and united.

Guilherme approaches Sabrina and, in a whisper, says:

— Just look at them. It's nice to see that despite all the confusion, there is still some relief and comfort between them.

Sabrina agrees, her eyes fixed on the scene before them. She turns to Guilherme, and an unexpected thought crosses her mind. The way Guilherme observes Mayara, with a mix of concern and affection, makes Sabrina reflect on her own feelings for him.

She cannot deny that Guilherme's care and dedication to those around him deeply touch her. Over time, she realizes that her emotions for him are more than friendship; there is a growing feeling of affection that she has been struggling to understand.

— Guilherme — Sabrina begins, her voice soft and thoughtful. — Sometimes, amidst all the chaos, we end up discovering things about ourselves and others. I see how much you care for Mayara and how difficult it is for you to watch Arthur and her going through all this.

Guilherme, surprised by the direction of the conversation, looks at her with a curious expression.

— What do you mean, Sabrina?

Sabrina hesitates for a moment but then decides to be honest about her feelings.

— I think I'm starting to realize that my feelings for you are more complex than I thought. It's not just friendship. I care deeply for you, and that makes me question what I really feel.

Guilherme watches her, a gentle smile forming on his lips.

— I've also noticed that our feelings are changing. There is something special between us, and maybe it's time for us to understand better what that means.

As they gaze at each other, the tension and affection between them become evident. Guilherme and Sabrina understand that, despite the adversities they face, something important is being revealed amidst all this. They are closer than they imagined, and the bond between them strengthens, bringing a new perspective to what lies ahead.

Santiago, in his dark and isolated room, finds himself in a state of growing frustration. The manipulation plan involving Anna did not go as he expected, leaving him furious. He grabs his phone and, with anger evident in his voice, calls Anna.

— Anna, — says Santiago, his voice laden with tension. — What was that? Your attempt at manipulation didn’t work, and because of that, my patience is running thin.

Anna, who was relaxing in her apartment, answers the call with a worried expression. Santiago's voice makes her heart race.

— Santiago, I... I didn't expect things to turn out this way. I was just trying to help.

— Help? — Santiago retorts, his tone threatening. — You were trying to deceive me and failed. Now, consequences will follow.

Anna swallows hard, trying to maintain her composure. — What do you intend to do?

— You have two options. — Santiago continues, his voice cold and calculating. — Either you do exactly what I say and fix the mess you made, or I will expose your attempt at manipulation to the public. And believe me, that won't be anything compared to what I have planned for you.

A silence stretches for a moment as Anna ponders her options. Santiago, impatient, adds:

— Think carefully about your actions, Anna. The next move is yours. And if you choose to err again, there will be no turning back.

Anna, now terrified, tries to regain control. — Okay, I will do what is necessary. Don’t force me to do something I might regret.

Santiago hangs up the phone, his hatred palpable. He knows he still has control over the situation, but Anna's failure is a reminder that the road ahead will be filled with obstacles. The tension is high, and he is determined to maintain the advantage he has, whether against Anna, Mayara, or anyone else who crosses his path.

Mayara slowly awakens to Cassandra's voice echoing through the house. She stretches and, looking to the side, sees Arthur still asleep next to her. Her heart tightens at the sight of his vulnerability, but she knows she needs to keep her composure.

Gently, she caresses Arthur's face, trying not to make noise and wake him. Her thoughts are tumultuous, battling between concern for Arthur and the need to maintain a façade with Santiago.

Mayara gets up and heads to the door, where Cassandra continues talking to someone. She takes a deep breath, trying to regain the calm and seriousness needed for the situation. She cannot let Santiago perceive any weakness or hesitation from her.

— Cassandra, — Mayara says as she approaches, her voice attempting to sound normal despite the internal tension. — What are we talking about?

Cassandra turns, a look of surprise and concern on her face. — Mayara, I was trying to find you. I heard rumors, and I needed to know how you were doing.

Mayara forces a smile, even though she knows she needs to be alert. — I'm fine, thanks. Arthur is still sleeping, so if you don’t mind, let’s talk somewhere else?

Cassandra nods, realizing the need for privacy. They head to the kitchen, and Mayara tries to act naturally while her mind is focused on how to deceive Santiago and protect Arthur. She knows the situation is far from resolved, and Santiago will not rest anytime soon.

At the same time, Mayara keeps a constant thought: Santiago’s plan must be faced with cunning and determination. She wonders how she will manage to convince Santiago of her collaboration while also taking care of Arthur and confronting her own conflicting emotions.
