Chapter 129

"Is that true?" The woman asked me but I shook my head quickly.

Maybe if she were really my friend, I would have helped.

"She is not my friend," I answered.

I did not deny that she was talking to me but claiming she was my friend, I wasn't going to take that.

The woman did not ask further questions. Instead, spoke to Miss Miranda and the other woman.

"Leave the hall," she said after a while.

"Leave the hall, Karen," Nyra said to me, with a smirk.

"You. Not her," the woman pointed to Nyra. "You are not entitled to lunch today."

Nyra's smile faded immediately and was replaced with anger.

"But I am the future Queen," Nyra said. "I should not be disrespected like that!"

"I am the future Queen," I murmured in sarcasm.

Is that a leverage to be rude?

Neither the two women nor Miss Miranda argued with her. The woman only rang a bell and two guards walked in.

"You either leave peacefully or we bundle you out," one of the guards said.

"You can't speak to me like that!" Nyra yelled at them.. "I am the..."

Miss Miranda gestured to the guards and they carried her out while she kept telling them why they should respect her.

I felt sorry for her that they had to take her out that way but did not feel sorry for long.

If she had listened, things would have been different.

Miss Miranda went on to speak to us, after which I was appointed, as usual, to assign who would ring the bell. After they left, the hall became noisy.

"You are not going to calm them down?" Tiffany whispered to me but I shook my head. "But you are going to get punished."

"She won't get punished," Audrey answered. "She isn't in charge yet."

I nodded. That is it. If I tell them to keep quiet or punish them for being noisy, I will be overstepping my boundaries.

"But you can't just leave them like this. Can you?" Pearl asked.

I smiled. "I have a different way to put them in their place."

"Can you tell us?" Tiffany was so interested in it but I wasn't going to tell them.

I shook my head. "Nope. You can..."

Kath and the other maids walked in with trays of food. Usually, they come in before Miss Miranda and the other women leave, but today was different and I knew there must be a reason for that.

That was the reason I did not tell my friends what my plans were; I needed to be sure what was going on first. Kath walked up to me to ask if the food should be served but I said no.

I gestured to Kath to move closer. "Do you know why Miss Miranda and the others left before you came in?"

"There is someone here for inspection but I don't know who," she replied.

I suspected immediately that it might be the Demon King.

But why is he here? Would he blame them for sending his future Queen out?

I had a lot of thoughts going on in my mind. I decided it was best we eat quickly and return to our rooms.

"You can serve the food," I told Kath.

She returned to tell the other girls and they began to share the food. Surprisingly, everyone had kept quiet the moment food was shared.

They waited as usual for me to start first before they began to eat. It did not take long before we were done eating. I chose who would ring the bell, and she did.

Some girls came in a few minutes later to clear the table. After they were done, they left. We had to wait for Kath and the rest of the girls to come so we could leave. As usual, the hall became noisy again.

"So tell me," Tiffany began. "I mean us, what you planned to do before."

"I am curious to know too," Audrey said and Pearl nodded in agreement.

"Nothing," I mumbled. "I had no plans to do anything. I only wanted to observe first before making any plans."

Audrey nodded. "That was a good idea though."

"I guess it was," Tiffany answered. "Did..."

"It's time to leave," Pearl said. "Kath and the other girls are here."

We left the hall and returned to our various rooms.

"You should take your bath. I will be back to pick you up in an hour," Kath said when we got to my room.

"Are there any other activities for the day?"

"Not really. It was Miss Miranda's instructions. I think it has to do with Miss Nyra."

What does that have to do with me? I won't get punished for denying she was my friend, which made them send her out, right?

"Do you think I will be punished?" I whispered.

I just felt I might be heard by someone.

Kath chuckled. "I don't think so. She would have made that clear if you would be."

I took a deep breath. What if she doesn't, but that's her plan?

"I don't think you should think more about that. You have done nothing wrong," Kath encouraged me.

I decided to cheer up. She was right after all.

Kath left and I went to take a shower. With about forty minutes left, I decided to take a short nap.

I only slept, or rather, I rested for thirty minutes before deciding to look for my phone; I haven't seen it since I left the room yesterday.

I found it in my wardrobe and then sat down on the couch to scroll through it. There were messages and calls from Tiffany, Pearl, and Audrey.

But why did they not talk about it when they saw me?

I heard a knock on the door and I dropped my phone on the table. It was four already so I knew it must be Kath. I opened the door only to see someone different.

The Demon King!

He was with Nyra and Miss Miranda. I was shocked to see him. Nyra had a smirk on her face and that made me realize I might be in trouble.

Is he going to punish me for not supporting his future Queen?

"Hi, Karen," I heard Nathan's voice as he popped his head from the side.

That gave me peace of mind; with Nathan here my punishment might be minimal.

"You can leave now, Miss Miranda," Nathan said.

Miss Miranda bowed before leaving. With Nyra, Nathan and the Demon King left, I made way for them to come in.

I moved backward so I could speak to Nathan.

"What is going on?" I whispered.

"Did you get into trouble with Nyra?" He whispered back.

"I..."

"Over here!" The Demon King ordered, and I ran forward quickly.

I stood in front of him wondering what he would do next.

"Kneel," he ordered and I made to kneel down.

A force held me up and I couldn't go down. Nyra suddenly yelled in pain, and that made me turn.

"Why did you bully her?" He asked.

I furrowed my brows. Is it me or her?
