Chapter 127

"What did he say?" I asked.

"Nothing serious," Nathan replied. "He just wants to know if you cried because he yelled at you."

"And what did you tell him?"

"The truth," Nathan mumbled and I sighed.

I do not expect him to lie. Do I?

"But there is good news," he added. "he wants me to add some money to your monthly allowance. You also get some new clothes."

I scoffed slightly. Is he trying to buy me with those?

"You don't seem happy about it," Nathan said, and I rolled my eyes.

Maybe if he had cancelled today's class, I would be happy. I don't even know what the class is about.

"Can't he just cancel today's class instead?" I mumbled.

Nathan smiled. "You know he wants the best for you right? Voidspire isn't anyway like Velmorith. And things will get more complicated as time goes on."

I sighed. "I get that he doesn't want me to suffer, but I just hope I can get a day off."

Nathan smiled. "And here comes the last piece of good news."

I furrowed my brows. "Is there other good news?"

He nodded. "There is going to be a public holiday in a few weeks. He said you can go home with Pearl and Evelyn."

I blinked. "Are you being serious?"

He smiled. "Of course I am. I wanted to tell you that after we get to school."

I couldn't hide my joy and if I had my phone with me, I would have called Pearl to tell her the good news.

"Are you very happy about it?" Nathan asked.

I nodded. "Of course I am. The thought of not going home in a year has weighed me down for days. I am happy I can breathe some fresh air in a few weeks."

"Aren't the air in the Voidspire fresh?"

I leaned closer to him. "Don't you know the air over there is dark? I feel cold every single time and have been having bad dreams since I got there."

Nathan burst into laughter. "Don't you think you are over exaggerating things?"

I shrugged. Nathan can't understand. Can he? He goes to Velmorith.

"Maybe you are not. But I don't think Voidspire is that bad."

I shook my head. He really doesn't understand.

I looked out through the window and realised we were getting closer to the school.

No wonder I suddenly felt chills.

I wrapped my hands around myself and took a deep breath. The car stopped in front of the big gate I had come through the first time I came with Nathan.

"Did you have your ID card with you?" He asked and I shook my head.

"I did not remember to carry anything when Miss Miranda came to me."

He nodded. "I guess I might have to speak to them myself."

"Isn't that going to let them know who..."

He chuckled. "Don't you think they already did? I spoke to them on your first day, remember?"

I nodded. Yes, he did. I almost forgot that.

We left the car and headed to the Security Post. Nathan didn't say anything before they allowed me in.

Just seeing him was enough to convince them that I am not someone they could mess with.

"Miss Miranda will come to pick you up by nine for your class," he said and I nodded.

With no ID card, I had to board a taxi that took me directly to my hostel with the money Nathan gave me. By the time I was in my room, it was fifteen minutes before nine, with little time to rest; Kath came five minutes after.

"I am here to take you to class," she said.

"Where is Miss Miranda?" I asked.

"She is in her office, waiting," Kath answered and I nodded.

She picked up a few books from the shelves and we left the room.

"Am I going to read all that?" I asked on our way.

"I guess you will. Miss Miranda asked me to get them."

I groaned. Why do I have to start class earlier than others?

When we got to the office, Kath knocked on the door and waited for an answer.

"Who is there?" We heard Miss Miranda's voice.

"It's Katherine. Miss Karen is here for her class," Kath answered.

"She can come in," Miss Miranda said and Kath handed over the books to me.

"I have to leave now. I can't go in with you."

Kath left and I entered the office. "Good day, Miss Miranda," I greeted.

"Have your seat," she answered, stretching her hand to me but not looking at me. "And good day," she added.

I took my seat and waited for her next line of instructions. She took about ten minutes reading whatever book was on her table, before she finally looked at me.

"Your books?" She asked.

I showed her the books Kath gave me and she took them. She went through them before handing them over to me.

"How good is your Demon language?" She asked.

I raised my brows. "Fairly good?"

She spoke a few sentences to me, and I replied.

She nodded. "This is more than fairly good. How long have you been studying?"

"As long as I can remember," I mumbled.

"What did you say?" She asked.

"Six months to a year, I guess."

She stared at me. "Just for that long?"

I nodded. "Yes."

But with a lot of intense learning. I practically learned everything myself for a long time before the Demon King allowed others to help me.

"I am going to test your ability," she said and I nodded.

She gave me some tasks to do, setting a particular time, and I was able to finish up before the time elapsed.

She smiled. "You seem to be pretty smart. But that alone won't get you to the top."

I nodded in agreement. Maybe that won't even get me to the middle. Voidspire feels more like a place of survival than of intelligence.

"And you are too soft," she added. "So,..." She stared at me. "I might have to be harsh with you." I nodded and she shook her head. "I mean very harsh."

I felt shivers run down my spine. Although I do not understand what she meant by being very harsh to me, I could tell it wasn't going to be something pleasant.

She handed me a paper. "Your rules to follow. It's different from other students' rules but that doesn't mean you won't follow the school rules."

I went through the rules and my heart skipped a beat.

"H-how long do I have to follow all these?" I stuttered.

"Until I am satisfied?"

I took a deep breath. "And if I don't comply?"

She smiled; it wasn't a good one. "You will know when you don't."

I quickly cancelled the thought of not complying with her rules and began to think of how to follow every one of them.

"I will try my best."

She nodded. "Now to the first lesson of the day."

She stood up from her seat, went to a room I didn't know was there, and then returned with a whiteboard.
