19. Mysterious Meeting with Twins

Over the next few days, Ellen found herself thanking her lucky stars that she hadn't run into either Phill or Paul. The weather was its usual chilly self, with a slight breeze that prompted Ellen to bundle up in a jacket and jeans as she headed to the market.

Her plan was to grab something to eat for later at home – she settled on cereal and a sandwich. As she waited in line, Ellen would exchange smiles with the cashier and, once her turn came, she'd complete her purchase with a polite farewell.

"Good evening, and good job," the blonde cashier replied with gratitude, returning Ellen's smile. "Thank you, ma'am. Have a great evening," Ellen responded, nodding appreciatively as she collected her bags.

She made her way to her nearby building, eagerly anticipating the meal that awaited her at home. The street was deserted, its quietness punctuated only by the occasional gust of wind brushing against her face, causing her to hunch slightly as she clutched her bags. Despite her hurry, walking faster proved a challenge. The cold was beginning to gnaw at her, urging her to quicken her pace.

"Ugh, it's freezing. I need to pick up the pace," she muttered, urging herself towards the building's entrance. She spotted the doorman and greeted him with a smile before entering. He cast a curious glance at her bags.

"Need a hand, Ellen?" he inquired. "No, I'm good. Thanks," she replied with a smile, eager to escape the chill outside. Inside the building's warmth, she heaved a sigh of relief.

Just then, Phil's car pulled up to the condo. As he turned off the engine and stepped out, his gaze fell on Ellen briskly making her way inside with bags in tow. It had been a while since they'd seen each other, and Phil felt an urge to catch up. He signaled his brothers, who were accompanying him, into action.

"Let's go, guys," he prompted, setting his sights on Ellen. Paul caught Phil's glance and signaled Petro to join them. The trio walked together, converging at the entrance of the building.

Upon their arrival, they headed for the elevator. Phil felt a mixture of relief and excitement as he spotted Ellen standing near the elevator, her bags by her side. Keeping a certain distance, he positioned himself to ensure she didn't slip away unnoticed. His brothers followed suit, intrigued by his focus.

As they gazed at Ellen, both Paul and Phil wore smiles that conveyed a touch of warmth and admiration. Ellen, on the other hand, was growing impatient with the elevator's delay. Her head shook in disbelief, causing her hair to dance around her.

"Seriously, this wait is killing me. My hands are going to fall off," she mumbled, her voice just loud enough for them to hear.

Amidst her impatience, Petro's attention was captured. He continued to observe Ellen, noting her beauty. It was becoming evident to him that both his brothers were taken by her. A grin played on his lips as he took a step forward, his long hair swaying gracefully.

With a confident smile, Petro greeted her from a distance, his arms crossed. "Good evening, miss," he chimed in.

Startled, Ellen's eyes widened. The voice was unmistakably identical to the twins', but she couldn't place it. Slowly turning around, her surprise escalated into a startled shriek as she faced Petro.

She felt as if she were hallucinating – he resembled Paul, yet with a different style: a fuller beard and a mane of voluminous hair. The bags slipped from her grasp, clattering to the ground. Disbelief washed over her as she locked eyes with him, wondering if he were real.

Petro's eyes, just like Paul's, exuded a mischievous charm, but his smile held a unique allure. Ellen's gaze flickered between him and Paul, the former looking serious, while Phil seemed unsure. This revelation of another twin in the family left Ellen dumbfounded.

Unaware of her internal turmoil, Petro maintained his smile, bending down to retrieve the fallen bags. He extended them toward Ellen with a reassuring gesture. "Are you okay, miss?" he inquired, his eyes filled with concern.

Struggling to regain her composure, Ellen ran a hand across her face, as if to verify his reality. "Wow, this is... unbelievable," she exclaimed, her gaze shifting between the three brothers.

Petro chuckled, juggling the bags. "Yeah, I'm not sure if I'm an improvement on the scene," he joked, his laughter filling the air.

The elevator doors opened, providing a timely distraction. Paul, insistent on helping, took the bags from Ellen, inviting her to join them. "Come on in, guys," he invited, his gaze fixed on her.

Ellen hesitated for a moment, meeting Paul's gaze. Blushing slightly, she stepped into the elevator, positioning herself beside him. The others followed suit, and the doors closed.

As the elevator ascended, Paul leaned over to Ellen, engaging her. "By the way, Ellen, this is Petro, our youngest twin."

Petro's smile remained warm, his eyes locking onto Ellen's. Ellen turned toward him and noticed his hand extended toward her, adorned with rings. Accepting his hand, she greeted him shyly, "Nice to meet you, Petro. I've heard good things from your brothers."

Petro withdrew his hand, maintaining his smile. "I'm Petro, and I'm glad to finally meet you, Ellen. Sorry about the earlier shock – we should have mentioned it."

Ellen let out a bashful smile, looking away. "It's fine, really. I was just taken by surprise," she admitted, her gaze shifting to Phill, who was grinding his teeth in frustration, and Paul, who gazed at her intently.

As the atmosphere turned a bit tense, Petro leaned closer to Ellen, his playful demeanor returning. "Don't worry, Ellen. I hope we cross paths again," he teased, his flirtatious nature apparent.

Ellen cleared her throat, her cheeks flushing. The elevator doors opened, releasing her from the slightly awkward exchange. Stepping back, she bid them farewell with a shy smile. "See you later."

Phil nodded, waving, Petro winked with a gaze that lingered on her, and Paul handed her the bags with a gentle touch. "Until next time, Ellen. Have a good night."

"Good night," she responded, her gaze lingering on Paul for a moment as their hands brushed. A jolt of electricity coursed through her at his fleeting touch. Smiling, she turned and headed to her apartment, her heart racing.

The three brothers watched her until the elevator doors closed. They exchanged glances and began their ascent to the eighth floor. Petro, his curiosity getting the better of him, couldn't resist asking, "Alright, guys, she's a looker, but who made the first move?"

Paul and Phil exchanged knowing glances, deliberately avoiding Petro's question. The elevator doors opened, and the three stepped out. Determined to uncover their secret, Petro persisted, his frustration evident. "You can't dodge this forever. I'll find out."

Petro headed to his apartment, still puzzled by the dynamics between his brothers. His curiosity was unquenchable. Paul entered his apartment, and Phil. Petro continued to press, struggling to believe that they were avoiding his question.

"Come on, guys, are you seriously going to keep up this act? Just give me an answer," he insisted, frustration evident in his tone. The other two exchanged knowing smiles, and Paul chimed in. "Relax, Petro. There's nothing to tell. See you later," Paul reassured him before stepping into his apartment and closing the door behind him.

Petro's sense of satisfaction remained unfulfilled as he turned to Phil. Phil simply waved at his brother before entering his own apartment, the sound of the door shutting confirming his departure.

Petro was left standing, feeling a mix of exasperation and curiosity. He voiced his displeasure to himself, a determination brewing to uncover the truth about the interaction between Paul and Phil.

"I may not get answers from them now, but I'll get to the bottom of this," he mumbled, resolute in his quest for knowledge. With a determined stride, Petro headed to his own apartment. He had intentionally moved to the same floor as his brothers, allowing him to be closer to them.

As he reached his apartment, he walked straight to his room, eager to contemplate the situation further.
