Chapter 70 Fix his stupidity
Chapter 70 Fix his stupidity
Gina pulled out of the restaurant parking lot, glancing at the time on her car’s dashboard. It was already late in the afternoon, and she knew April would still be in surgery.
After receiving her message earlier, she immediately offered to help pick up Kai and Tai from school.
As she drove, she thought about how exhausted April must be. Performing surgery was no small task, and knowing how dedicated April was to her job, she had probably poured all her energy into it.
Gina knew her friend too well—April would come home drained, hungry, and in desperate need of rest.
That was why she had already decided to take care of everything for her, including the kids’ dinner.
Arriving at the school, she pulled into the parking lot and quickly spotted Kai and Tai standing near the gate, chatting happily with some of their classmates. As soon as they saw her, their faces lit up.
“Auntie Gina!” Tai called out excitedly, running towards her.
Kai followed, smiling brightly. “Mommy called our teacher to say that you were picking us up today.”
“That’s right,” Gina said with a warm smile, reaching out to ruffle Tai’s hair. “Come on, let’s get you two home.”
She ushered them into the back seat, making sure they were safely buckled in before pulling out of the school parking lot.
The drive home was filled with the kids’ cheerful voices as they told her about their day, from the games they played during recess to the small arguments they had with their classmates.
Gina listened patiently, laughing at their stories, happy to see them so energetic.
Once they arrived at April’s house, Gina parked the car and led them inside. She had been here many times and knew exactly where April kept her spare key.
The moment they stepped in, she placed her handbag on the counter and turned to the kids. “Alright, straight to the bathroom, both of you. We need to get you cleaned up before dinner.”
“Aww, but I’m not dirty,” Tai pouted.
Kai laughed. “You say that every time, and you always end up covered in soap bubbles.”
Gina chuckled, guiding them towards the bathroom. “Come on, no arguments. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can eat.”
She helped them bathe, making sure to scrub behind their ears and get all the dust and sweat off them.
After wrapping them in fluffy towels, she helped them into their pajamas before heading to the kitchen to prepare dinner.
Knowing April would be exhausted, she decided to cook something simple but filling.
She quickly whipped up a warm meal of pasta with creamy sauce and grilled chicken, serving it with fresh juice for the kids.
As they ate, she sat with them at the dining table, making sure they finished their food. She could tell they were growing sleepy, their energy beginning to fade after the long day.
They had just finished when they suddenly heard a car horn outside.
“Mommy’s back!” Kai announced excitedly, jumping off his chair.
Tai ran after him towards the door, both eager to greet their mother. Gina smiled, standing up and wiping her hands on a towel. She knew April would be grateful for the help.
April stepped inside, looking visibly tired but relieved to see her children. The moment Kai and Tai ran to her, she knelt down, wrapping them in a tight hug.
“My babies,” she whispered, kissing their cheeks. “I missed you both.”
“We missed you too, Mommy!” Tai giggled, squeezing her tightly.
Gina stood by the dining table, watching the sweet reunion with a smile.
After a moment, April pulled back, her eyes landing on Gina. “Thank you so much for picking them up and taking care of everything.”
Gina waved a hand dismissively. “Don’t mention it. I knew you’d be exhausted.”
April exhaled, standing up. “I am. I just need to freshen up.”
Gina nodded. “Go ahead. I’ll tuck the kids into bed.”
April gave her a grateful smile before heading to her room.
Meanwhile, Gina led the kids upstairs, helping them brush their teeth before tucking them into bed.
“Can you stay with us until we fall asleep?” Tai asked, snuggling under the blanket.
Gina chuckled. “Of course.”
She sat on the edge of the bed, gently stroking their hair as she hummed a soft tune. It wasn’t long before their breathing evened out, and they drifted into sleep.
Smiling, she quietly stood up and turned off the bedside lamp before leaving the room.
Instead of heading home, she decided to stay the night. She needed to have a talk with April—about Richard.
She made herself comfortable in the living room, flipping through TV channels while waiting.
A few minutes later, April walked in, now dressed in cozy pajamas, carrying a bowl of food in her hands. She plopped down beside Gina on the couch, sighing heavily.
“I needed this,” April murmured before taking a bite.
Gina glanced at her. “When was the last time you had a proper meal?”
April thought for a moment. “Breakfast?”
Gina shook her head. “You’re impossible.”
April let out a small laugh but quickly sobered up. “You won’t believe who I performed surgery on today.”
Gina raised an eyebrow. “Who?”
April took another bite before answering. “Cara.”
Gina’s eyes widened in shock. “Your stepsister?”
April nodded. “She had appendicitis. I was the one who operated on her.”
Gina blinked in disbelief. “Wow.” She let out a low whistle. “Talk about fate.”
April shrugged. “She’s just another patient to me. I don’t hold grudges, Gina. My job is to save lives, no matter who they are.”
Gina studied her for a moment before nodding. “You’re a bigger person than most, April.”
April sighed, placing her bowl on the coffee table. “That’s not all. Guess who else showed up today?”
Gina frowned. “Who?”
“Nick.”
Gina’s face instantly darkened. “What? What does he want now?”
April leaned back against the couch. “He was waiting for me in the parking lot.”
“What?” Gina sat up straighter. “That’s creepy.”
April nodded. “He said he misses me and wants me back.”
Gina let out a loud scoff. “Oh, that’s rich. After leaving you for your stepsister, he suddenly realizes you were the one he wanted all along?”
April smiled humorlessly. “That’s exactly what I told him.”
“What did he say?”
“That he made a mistake, that he thought he loved Cara but didn’t. He wants to ‘fix things’ between us.”
Gina snorted. “Fix what? His own stupidity?”
April chuckled but then turned serious. “I told him I wasn’t interested. But then he said something…”
Gina narrowed her eyes. “What?”
April hesitated before repeating his words. “He said, ‘If I can’t have you, then I won’t let any man have you either.’”
Gina’s entire body tensed. “That sounds like a threat, April.”
April nodded. “I know.”
Gina clenched her fists. “You need to be careful. That man is unhinged.”
April sighed. “I will.”
Gina took a deep breath. “Speaking of unhinged men…”
April turned to her. “What?”
Gina hesitated for a moment before finally saying, “I need to talk to you about Richard.”
April’s expression changed instantly. “Richard?”
Gina nodded. “Yeah. There’s something you need to know.”
